Volume 2 Chapter 40 Shibata-san seems to have entered the otaku world for sure
Edited by: Toasteful
The day after that, Friday, is a day when I have a part-time job after school.
After school, I go to the patisserie Andou Trois.
”Good morning, Ikurumi-san.”
When I greeted her like that, Ikurumi-san smiled and said,
”Yes, please take care of me today as well. Oh? Are you alone today, unusually?”
I didn’t expect Ikurumi-san to see me like that.
”Eeeh, do I, like, get looked at like that even by Ikurumi-san?”
Ikurumi-san laughed again and said,
”Yes, and with a different girl every time. It’s appreciated because it means we have more regular customers.”
When I heard those words, I tilted my head.
”Oh, so girls come even when I’m not here?”
In response to my words, Ikurumi-san nodded.
”Yes, and there are also those who say they’ve seen videos. So, even though the summer season is a slow period for sales, it hasn’t dropped much compared to last year. We have more regular customers, and it’s really helpful.”
Kashiyama-san was coming at our words.
”Good morning, Kashiyama-san.”
Kashiyama-san smiled and said to me.
”Yeah, good morning. Well, you work really hard, you know.”
Ikurumi-san nodded at what Kashiyama-san said and said,
”Yes, that’s true. Many people don’t like cleaning and getting ready before the shop opens, but you it well and even helps advertise the shop.”
While we talked, Shibata-san arrived at the shop.
”Hello.”
I tilted my head and asked Shibata-san,
”Hey, is Shibata-san working today?”
When she heard my question, Shibata-san smiled, shook her head, and sat down on a chair in the dining area.
”No, today I’m a customer. What do you suggest for today?”
Ah, I see.
It’s just like Ikurumi-san mentioned earlier.
”Today, the American cherry tart and rare cheesecake are in season. And how about having a sweet iced milk tea to drink?”
”Sure, I’d like that.”
I playfully tell Shibata-san.
”I understand, milady.”
I pick up the American cherry tart and rare cheesecake from the display, pour the iced milk tea into a teacup, and put it on the tray.
”Thanks for waiting. These are today’s special treats.”
I say as I place the cake and tea on the table.
”Wow, they look yummy. Itadakimasu.”
Says Shibata-san as she takes a bite of the cake.
Beside her, Kashiyama-san smiles and says,
”By the way, you haven’t been playing Touken Ranbu much lately, right? You used to seem so tired, but not anymore.”
Shibata-san smiles and replies,
”Yeah, that’s true. I’ve collected almost all the swordsmen, and it’s become a bit repetitive, so I’ve lost interest.”
Kashiyama-san chuckled and said,
”Well, I guess that’s how mobile games are.”
Shibata-san laughed softly and replied,
”But Touken Ranbu is a game that you can pause and resume whenever you want, so I play it whenever I feel like it. Right now, I’m actually more into drawing illustrations and reading fan-made manga and novels.”
Kashiyama-san nodded and commented,
”I see, so you’ve chosen that path.”
The two of them seemed to be enjoying the conversation.
Come to think of it, there was a line in a manga that said, “Otaku don’t become otaku because they want to, they become otaku without even realizing it.” It’s true that there’s something that triggers it, but before you know it, you’ve become one.
And Shibata-san added,
”And when you read those kinds of things, you also start wanting to write them yourself.”
Kashiyama-san laughed in response.
”Why don’t you just write it?”
But, Shibata-san hesitated for a moment before answering.
”But, I’ve never written manga or novels before…”
I said in response,
”Everything has a beginning, so why not give it a try? Especially since you’ve never written manga, maybe start with a novel first, as it might be easier.”
After hearing what I said, Shibata-san thought for a moment and then said,
”That makes sense. But I’m a bit scared to post it on a website right away. Would you mind reading it after I finish writing?”
I nodded and said,
”Of course, that’s fine. Starting with a shorter story with a clear ending might be better, considering it’s challenging to write a long story from the beginning.”
Shibata-san nodded and said,
”I understand, that might be a good idea.”
Then, Kashiyama-san added,
”After Hata-kun finishes reading it, let me read it too, okay?”
Shibata-san happily agreed.
”Sure, please go ahead.”
Ah, but getting into making new versions of existing works… Shibata-san is definitely diving into the world of anime and manga fans.
