Volume 1 Chapter 76 Will the transfer student at the end of May be a returnee who is half Japanese and half American?

Edited by: Toasteful

After we finished the mid-term exams, it was a short break at the end of May. Our teacher, Akiyama-sensei, told us in the morning homeroom,

”Today, a new student is joining our class.”

 Everyone became quiet.

A new student now? Usually, new students come at the end of the term, so having one in May is unusual.

 ”Please come in.”

 ”Ah, yes.”

 Huh? What’s the pronunciation?

The one who came in was a girl.

She had reddish hair in a ponytail, hazel eyes like a cat, and a slightly chiseled, yet beautiful and glamorous appearance.

 ”Um, excuse me, everyone.”

”Oh, she’s a returnee, came from an American high school to Japan.”

”Yes, I’m Kokonoe Arianna Charlotte. My dad is Japanese, and my mom is American, so I’m half-and-half. Nice to meet you all.”

 Ah, I see.

In American schools, students finish school in May or June and then have a summer holiday of about three months. The new school year starts in September.

If we follow the American school schedule, the end of May would be a good time to change schools or move.

”When I was young, I lived in Japan, but it’s been 10 years since I came back, so there are things I don’t know.”

”Okay, I hope everyone will be friends. About where to sit… it’s okay to sit in front of Saikachi-san.”

As for the order of the alphabet, well, I suppose it’s appropriate, right?

 But was that seat empty?

 ”Ah, okay, got it.”

Saikachi-san answered, and Kokonoe-san came to the seat.

 ”Nice to meet you.”

Kokonoe-san said, reaching out her right hand, and Saikachi-san looked puzzled.

So I decided to give some advice.

”Oh, Kokonoe-san? In Japan, it’s not common to shake hands or hug as a greeting.”

Kokonoe-san looked surprised, then quickly put her hands behind her back and said with a bit of shyness,

 ”Oh, I remember now. Ahahaha.”

”Well, um, I think it might be hard at first because of different lifestyles, but I think you’ll get used to it over time.”

I said, and Kokonoe-san said with broken japanese,

 ”Ah, yes, I understand.”

Sigh, it seems like I’ve met another girl who will need some attention.

Even though spring is almost over.

Spring ends the time for meeting new people, leading to the next season – the upcoming summer.
