Volume 2 Chapter 16 While we were practicing, I accidentally pushed Namiki-san down, but I didn’t mean to do it on purpose

Now, as the sports competition is coming up tomorrow, we had a practice session with the team during lunch break.
We borrowed the volleyball court and volleyball from the gym, set up the poles, and practiced in a way that’s similar to the actual game.
”We don’t have much time left, so I thought of practicing in a way that’s similar to the actual game, connecting the serve, receive, set, attack, and block in groups of 2-on-4. What do you think? Specifically, one person serves, two receive, one sets, one attacks, and one blocks. I’d prefer to practice receiving if possible. Without being able to handle serves properly, we can’t play the game.”
When I said that, Shinonome-san smiled brightly and said,
”Alright, then leave the serving to me!”
Then Namiki-san continued.
”I-I also want to practice receiving! I-I don’t want to be a burden during the actual game…”
Upon hearing those words, Shinonome-san started laughing and said,
”Oh, that’s the spirit! You’re motivated!”
Next, Nakagaito raised her hand and said,
”Then I’ll be the setter, so you two over there, make sure to pass the ball to me.”
Nakagaito said while looking at me and Namiki-san, so I nodded.
”Yeah, passing the ball to the setter is the role of the receiver.”
Namiki-san also nodded and said,
”Yes, I-I’ll do my best.”
”Then I’ll be the attacker.”
Hirose-kun said that, and Gouriki-kun responded,
”Alright, then I’ll be the blocker.”
And so, we practiced a series of movements starting from Shinonome-san’s serve.
By the way, the volleyball court is a rectangular shape with a length of 18 meters for the long side and 9 meters for the short side. It is divided into two halves, so our team’s area is a 9-meter square, which is not much different from a tennis court in terms of size.
However, because of this, there is not a wide defensive range, but there is a high possibility of encountering or colliding with each other during defense, so we need to be careful.
In this situation, an arranged match is when the players unintentionally give way to each other to try and catch a ball that has fallen between them. This results in the ball landing on the court without anyone catching it.
Normally, there should be six players, but Namiki-san and I had to receive the ball and return it to Nakagaito.
”Namiki-san, when I want to catch it, I’ll shout ‘alright’.”
”Got it.”
Then, Shinonome-san gets ready to serve the ball.
”Here we go!”
Namiki-san and I nod.
”Okay, let’s do this!”
”Yes, please.”
The ball is flicked and makes a loud sound as it flies towards the middle between me and Namiki-san.
Furthermore, the ball’s path seems to be quite unstable, possibly because it doesn’t have any spin.
While a serve without spin is not uncommon, this is risky.
Should I go and get it now?
I shout and start running towards the ball.
”Alright!”
But I could hear Namiki-san’s voice nearby.
”Huh?”
And then, a strong impact happened.
”Ouch…”
”Ow ow ow”
I bumped into Namiki-san with all my force, and my heavy weight made Namiki-san fall down.
”S-Sorry!”
”A-Ah, it’s fine.”
After I quickly stood up, I reached out my hand to Namiki-san.
”Are you okay? Did you sprain anything?”
Namiki-san said, blushing a bit.
”I-I’m okay. I don’t think I sprained anything.”
”Ah, that’s good then.”
Just then, Nakagaito’s voice came in.
”Geez, are you just knocking girls down during lunch break?”
And Shinonome-san also commented.
”Looks like Hata-pippi is getting used to it.”
I walked over to the two of them.
”Hey, I didn’t knock her down on purpose, and I’m not used to this either.”
Hirose-kun let out a big sigh as Namiki-san looks on in confusion.
Still, Namiki-san’s stomach was surprisingly soft and fluffy.
