Volume 2 Chapter 29 Summer vacation at foreign companies is quite different

We’re going to the beach on August 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Some details might change, but as long as the date and place are decided, it’s okay for now.

Then Fumi-chan suggested something to me.

”Let’s look at the swimsuits we’ll wear at the beach the day after tomorrow.”

 I agreed.

”Yes, that’s a good idea. Especially for girls, swimsuit designs might change every year.”

”Yeah, wearing an out-of-date swimsuit might not look cool.”

 ”Okay, got it.”

By the way, my parents are deciding what to eat for dinner and lunch at the beach. It seems like my father wants something that goes well with alcohol.

Well, Fumi-chan and I can’t drink alcohol, so as long as we can have fresh fish, shellfish, and seafood like lobster, it’s fine. Since our parents are covering the travel expenses, it’s good if they can fully enjoy the sea during the holidays.

 ”See you in two days.”

I told Fumi-chan. She smiled and said,

 ”Sure, take care.”

After that, we finished talking, and I went back to my room. Next, I needed to plan the camping trip with Kokonoe-san. I looked for places near Kanto where we could do fun things like fishing and rafting. Once I found some good options, I messaged Kokonoe-san on social messenger.

[I’m thinking of going camping on August 5th, 6th, 7th, or 8th. Do you think your father can take time off then?]

 Soon, I got a message from Kokonoe-san.

[It’s fine! My father plansu to take all of August off this year.]

Wow, in other countries, it seems normal to take a month or more of vacation in a row, but that’s not common in Japan. Well, on the positive side, Japanese companies do have breaks for Obon, Christmas, and New Year’s like foreign companies do.

[For the location, how about a cool mountain place nearby? If you like fishing, rafting, or kayaking, I suggest a campsite in Okutama. Hikawa Camp Site or Kawai Camp Site could be good choices.]

[Oh, so desu ka? Okay, let’s talk about it.]

[Yes, I’m looking forward to it.]

Well, if they are on vacation for the entire month of August, then there shouldn’t be too much to worry about regarding the schedule, right?

The intense humidity and heat of Japanese summers might be challenging for someone who has been living in the United States for a long time.

It seems that after the Meiji era, the development of summer resorts and villa areas in Japan was partially due to the fact that living in Japan during the summer was too hot for foreigners.

[Considering the Logistics, would it be better to travel to the campsite by car? We would have to transport various equipment and ingredients as well.]

When I asked Kokonoe-san about it, the response I received was…

[Would a motorhome be better, then?]

[A motorhome? Oh, you mean a campervan. In Japan, the availability of campsites suitable for campervans is quite limited, but it seems that Kawai Campsite allows campervans, so that might work. Since it’s a three-night, four-day trip, it might be okay to move to several campsites where auto camping is possible.]

 [I understand.]

[It would be nice if we could make Kokonoe-san’s family have a comfortable summer vacation.]

[We don’t know much about Japan yet, so it would be helpful.]

[Well, if you say so, that’s great.]

Okay, once I decide on the plans for going to the beach and the mountains, I can also make other plans.

 …

 …
