    Heroine Regret 114

    Eriri took a stealthy photo.

    “Yukinoshita?”

As soon as they stepped out of the apartment building, Kitagami Yoru spotted Yukinoshita’s family.

His gaze scanned the distance and landed first on Yukinoshita Yukino, then shifted to Haruno and Yukino.

“That must be Yukinoshita Yukino and her sister,” he thought.

Kitagami Yoru quietly watched Yukinoshita Yukino.

At that moment, the expression on Yukinoshita Yukino’s face didn’t seem happy.

He slowed his pace and walked toward the apartment building, while Yukinoshita Yukino still hadn’t noticed him.

The mother and daughter trio got into a black Toyota Century car.

Kitagami Yoru paused slightly, pondering something.

“Yukinoshita Yukino doesn’t live alone, does she?”

He continued to watch as the Yukinoshitas’ car drove away before entering the apartment building himself.

After riding the elevator to Sakurajima Mai’s place,

    “You finally came.”

Mai opened the door, her expression slightly more animated than before.

“So you’ve been waiting for me?”

    Kitagami Yoru chuckled casually.

“Only you can see me, so why not help me unwind a bit.”

Sakurajima Mai rolled her eyes playfully and invited him inside.

The place was spotless, as one would expect from someone living alone.

On the dining table, there was an unfinished box of leftovers that caught his eye.

Holding a cup of coffee, Kitagami Yoru and Sakurajima Mai sat by the large window overlooking Tokyo’s vibrant night skyline.

The happiest moment for Sakurajima Mai came after she started acting strangely while chatting with Kitagami Yoru.

Dinner was at a private room in an izakaya.

“The waiter noticed only you here. Wouldn’t he think you’re eating too much?”

Sakurajima Mai, licking a recently bought green tea ice cream, smiled faintly.

“A smart person like the waiter wouldn’t think that, would he?”

“What do you want to eat?”

Kitagami Yoru handed the menu tablet to Sakurajima Mai.

“During performances, I had to maintain a strict diet and condition. It’s been a while since I could eat without restrictions.”

“This time, I’m going to eat my fill, haha.”

Sakurajima Mai happily stretched lazily, her expression reflecting her anticipation of a hearty meal.

Her delicate hands tapped repeatedly on the tablet.

Kitagami Yoru looked at Sakurajima Mai, thinking about what he needed to ask her.

But he wasn’t foolish. He knew this was almost exploiting her pain.

At least, now wasn’t the right time to bring it up while they were eating.

    After ordering,

A plate after plate of sashimi and grilled beef, along with skewers, were brought by the waiter.

Kitagami Yoru took a sip of his cold drink and started eating.

At nightfall around seven in Tokyo’s autumn, the black curtains of the city descended completely.

A gentle breeze passed through the streets.

Kitagami Yoru pulled up the zipper of his coat, glancing at Sakurajima Mai, who was wearing a thick fur coat and clearly wasn’t cold.

Having been ill nearly to death before, Sakurajima Mai now took her health very seriously, fearing another illness.

    There was nowhere to look.

After dinner, they walked under Japan’s streetlights,

With tomorrow being Monday, Kitagami Yoru didn’t want to stay too late and accompanied Sakurajima Mai for about ten minutes before leaving.

Stopped at the corner, the red and green traffic light seriously looked towards Sakurajima Mai.

    “That…Sakurajima-senpai.”

Kitagami Yoru opened his mouth with a hesitant expression, scratching his cheek with his index finger.

    “Call me Mai-senpai, anything?”

Sakurajima Mai’s mood was quite good, with a faint smile always hanging on her lips.

    “Just…uh…”

“You remember the thing I asked you before?”

Surprisingly, he already had an idea in mind; Kitagami Yoru wouldn’t drag things out unnecessarily.

However, when speaking, he intentionally shortened and omitted a part of the key information.

He didn’t want to repeat himself again, deepening the psychological harm on Sakurajima Mai.

It’s like cursing someone once versus ten times—it’s different.

The previous explanation was clear enough; Kitagami Yoru saw no need to repeat it a second time.

    “…..”

After speaking, the faint smile on Sakurajima Mai’s lips and the joy in her eyes instantly disappeared.

She had never forgotten this incident since then.

    “I still remember helping you.”

Sakurajima Mai’s expression suddenly fell into a somber mood.

    “Thank you.”

Kitagami Yoru lightly nodded, his expression revealing the change in Sakurajima Mai’s demeanor even without blindness.

He then went on to explain things briefly.

However, from the beginning, Sakurajima Mai had misunderstood his main intentions.

He used her ability to hide and even detect thermal images to completely escape three-dimensional space, collecting dirt on the Shinomiya family’s scandals or business secrets.

He also gathered information about Shinomiya Kaguya.

Leading Sakurajima Mai to believe that Kitagami Yoru liked Shinomiya Kaguya and wanted to understand the eldest lady of the Shinomiya clan, pursuing her.

After that, Kitagami Yoru accompanied Sakurajima Mai for a short walk and then sent her home.

    “See you tomorrow.”

At the foot of the tower, Sakurajima Mai waved goodbye to Kitagami Yoru with an expression of reluctance.

In the eyes of passersby, he smiled faintly at the air, deeply gazing at the luxurious apartment building.

Unbeknownst to others, they thought he greatly liked this high-end apartment building.

Under the bright moonlight and starlight, along with Japan’s lanterns, Kitagami Yoru did not go to the station.

Instead, he chose to walk home.

Upon returning home, he took a hot bath early and went to sleep.

He set his alarm clock twenty minutes earlier now.

The first reason was that he no longer needed to exercise on an empty stomach; he moved the workout plan to the evening.

Rising early in the morning allows him to sleep a bit more.

The second reason was that autumn and winter are cooler, making people feel tired and sleepy.

After turning off the lights, Kitagami Yoru quietly fell asleep.

    ……

    The next day, Monday.

Hearing the alarm clock’s ringing, Kitagami Yoru opened his eyes after stretching with a yawn.

He first scratched his eye corners to feel the morning air before throwing off his blanket and getting out of bed.

After washing up, he prepared breakfast and lunch as usual.

In the evening, after finishing muscle training, he had another meal.

Currently, while training, it’s not suitable to eat too much.

Before eating breakfast, Kitagami Yoru did some light stretching exercises.

After finishing his meal, he stuck to his usual schedule and grabbed a backpack to knock on Gabriel’s apartment door.

    “Gabriel, going to school.”

After knocking on the door, he called out quietly before standing still outside.

After waiting for a few minutes, Gabriel, as usual, had her messy golden hair all over the place. She stretched and yawned as she walked out.

“Gabriel, how long has it been since you washed your hair? It looks pretty greasy,” said Kitagami Yoru, looking at her with a bit of confusion.

“Is that right? I don’t really notice,” Gabriel said casually, shrugging as she grabbed her messy hair.

“School doesn’t seem to have anyone who would care about you?” Gabriel asked in a nonchalant tone.

Kitagami Yoru let out a small sarcastic comment under his breath as he walked with Gabriel toward the train station.

With early reading class starting in about twenty minutes, they arrived at Commercial Street. When Gabriel passed by the bakery, she went inside to buy breakfast.

“Help me pull my hair,” she said as she bit into her toast, holding her small hand a little awkwardly. She didn’t really want to grab her own hair but turned to Kitagami Yoru instead.

“You should wash your head in the afternoon when you get home,” he suggested.

Kitagami Yoru, not minding Gabriel’s greasy hair at all, reached out to help her smooth out the strands that were pulled into small sections.

“That golden-haired girl!” Eriri appeared behind Kitagami Yoru and Gabriel with a slight black circle under her eyes.

Recently, she had learned that the Art Club was being asked to have Kitagami Yoru serve as a human model for the upcoming campus art exhibition. This was causing Eriri to lose sleep every night.

Poor Eriri—Kitagami Yoru was someone she would fear and hate more than anyone else in her life, aside from an unexpected incident.

She stood far behind, her breathing slowing down involuntarily as she stopped to stare at the two of them. They seemed very close as they walked together.

Kitagami Yoru was still playing with Gabriel’s golden hair. The intimate gesture made Eriri’s mind race and feel uneasy.

“Golden-haired lolita…” she muttered under her breath, feeling a strange sense of unease as a cold shiver ran down her back.

After all, she herself was also a golden-haired lolita.

“Who’s that little sister?” Eriri asked, staring intently at Kitagami Yoru’s back while she pulled out her phone from her backpack.

She unlocked it and opened the camera app with a clicking sound.

“Click-clack-click-clack—” she snapped several photos of Kitagami Yoru and Gabriel as she aimed the camera at their backs.

Six clear shots of Kitagami Yoru affectionately touching Gabriel’s golden hair appeared on Eriri’s phone screen.

“Kitagami Yoru…Kitagami Yoru…” she muttered, her voice filled with frustration.

After confirming the photos were accurate, she let out a soft laugh. Her mind was racing with thoughts of revenge against Kitagami Yoru.

She followed them to the school gate and chose to trail behind as Kitagami Yoru and Gabriel separated.

She intentionally ran ahead of Gabriel, watching her closely from a distance.

    “A first-year student… golden-haired lolita… so cute…” she whispered, her tone filled with admiration.

Eriri squinted her eyes and thoroughly inspected Gabriel from head to toe.

The uniform of Shuchiin Academy has subtle differences between grades.

Through this, Eriri deduced Gabriel’s grade.

However, her focus was on Gabriel’s current state of behavior at that moment.

“Could it be… the Yoru from Kitagami? That jerk is bullying…”

Eriri had let Kitagami Yoru bully her before.

After encountering immense terror, seeing someone like Gabriel who reminded her of herself made her think of something else.

It was Gabriel’s fault for getting involved with Kitagami Yoru’s actions so early on.

“She wouldn’t be letting that disgusting bastard trick her, would she?”

In Eriri’s mind, Kitagami Yoru was evil and had no bounds to his badness, so she naturally defaulted to thinking about his bad intentions.

“And this relationship between him and Nanami Aoyama is unclear.”

    “And this gold-haired loli…”

When Eriri thought of this, she paused for a moment before continuing:

    “They’re getting so close.”

Gabriel kept yawning occasionally, completely unbothered by external matters and oblivious to Eriri.

She went straight to the Teaching Building in the first year and encountered Satania, who was excited about randomly throwing trash.

Kitagami Yoru had no idea what Eriri was thinking as she plotted her revenge against him.

The morning class included a world history lesson taught by Mafuyu Kirisu.

    During the lecture,

Kitagami Yoru was seen pretending to not pay attention, often glancing at the podium.

“Mafuyu Kirisu lives above my house. That’s unexpected… I mean…”

“He came over yesterday and now he’s not paying attention during class.”

Mafuyu Kirisu on the podium was also observing Kitagami Yoru’s behavior.

    Mid-break,

Kitagami Yoru brought his lunch to the familiar abandoned pond and ate it alone.

    He rested for a while.

Bored, he refreshed his newsfeed and received a message from Marin Kitagawa.

As he opened LINE, he muttered: “She’s sending me messages again?”

    [Are you there?]

“Unless something unexpected happens, I’ll be here for the next sixty years.”

After Kitagami Yoru sent the message, he looked towards the Teaching Building.

“You’re always so quick to reply. Are you also a high school student?”

“This is no joke at all.”

Marin Kitagawa replied just as quickly.

    “Yes.”

    Kitagami Yoru responded.

“Are you one of the students from Shuchiin Academy?”

In the self-service restaurant of Shuchiin Academy, Marin Kitagawa was chewing on a piece of beef while typing.

    “I definitely can’t say anything.”

Upon seeing this message, Kitagami Yoru immediately had that thought.

He didn’t want to tell Marin Kitagawa that he was Kitagami Yoru.

So he gave a careless reply.

Marin Kitagawa became curious and asked.

She assured him that if he’s worried about the school being bad, she wouldn’t laugh at his story.

With nothing else to do, Kitagami Yoru decided to chat with Marin while getting up to buy coffee.

In front of the automatic vending machine,

He encountered Kawasaki Saki, an old acquaintance.

“You didn’t get drunk after cutting water that night, did you?”

Kawasaki Saki asked, holding a can of coffee.

Drunk, passed out, almost slept on the train.

It’s funny, I just knew you’d be like this, cutting water to tire me out.

Drinking low-alcohol drinks isn’t bad, is it?

Kitagami Yoru bought a black coffee, drank it, and went to the classroom to rest.

    “Art club model……”

After packing her bag, Kitagami Yoru went to the Club Complex building.

In reality, it’s only about twenty hours.

The art club’s activities usually last 90 to 120 minutes.

Two weeks amount to ten days and twenty hours.

To meet the requirements a bit more, you can paint one or two pictures.
