    Heroine Regret 141

    Edited by: Tiny Fan Fiction

“W-are you saying you’re not sorry?”

The can in her hand made a crisp *clack* as Kasumigaoka Utaha squeezed it empty.

    “Let’s go with Eriri.”

Disgusted, Kasumigaoka Utaha glared and turned away from the opposite direction.

She tossed the trash can carelessly toward a nearby trash bin, missing it entirely.

The can bounced back down, making a loud *clang*.

Kasumigaoka Utaha hesitated and turned her back without picking it up, even glancing at the trash bin.

Even though Tomoya Aki is being pursued by such an absolutely stunning girl, he doesn’t need to say a word.

He can enjoy Kasumigaoka Utaha’s rare beauty without any effort.

She’s pure yet coldly elegant and perfection itself.

    Well, she did ask…

    “Is that right?”

Kitagami Yoru usually comes out later and chats with Sakurajima Mai without urgency.

    “Where are you going?”

“Do you know where I am?”

    Sakurajima Mai answers immediately.

“Could it be that you’re coming to me?”

Kitagami Yoru looked around, seeing nothing but empty space.

Not a single shadow or even a bird in sight.

Who would want to stay at Shuchiin Academy during the three-day weekend?”

“Come on, I’m at the school gate.”

Sakurajima Mai stands elegantly at the entrance of Shuchiin Academy.

It’s like she’s meeting an important person.

She looks stunning in her navy blue gakuran uniform and short platform shoes.

Her charisma and purity shine through, making Sakurajima Mai the perfect example of elegance.

How come, the world only has Kitagami Yoru who can appreciate it.

    “Here.”

It’s been a while since I last saw Kitagami Yoru, Sakurajima Mai jumps up excitedly and waves her hands around.

Kitagami Yoru smiles and responds, walking to her. He clearly displays his admiration for Sakurajima Mai’s outfit without hiding it.

“Sakurajima-senpai, you’ve put in some effort, haven’t you?”

    “What do you think?”

Sakurajima Mai smirks cunningly, looking at Kitagami Yoru, expecting an answer from someone.

    “Hmm.”

Compared to the usual sickly-looking Sakurajima-senpai I’ve known, she looks much better now—really impressive, almost drop-dead gorgeous.

Kitagami Yoru thinks deeply about this.

“Let’s go. Talk while we walk.”

“Otherwise, someone passing by might think you’re crazy.”

Sakurajima Mai is very considerate and naturally walks beside Kitagami Yoru.

    “Any plans?”

Kitagami Yoru stands aside, letting Sakurajima Mai take the lead.

It’s a bit inconvenient that others can’t see Sakurajima Mai.

“Yes, let me take you shopping to relax.”

    “But there’s a condition…”

“I want you to come with me to the hospital.”

Since meeting Kitagami Yoru, Sakurajima Mai’s cute face.

The smile is like a photo taken by a camera, frozen and fixed forever.

    “Hospital?”

    “Sick?”

Kitagami Yoru turns around to look at Sakurajima Mai and asks.

“I’m thinking of you, can’t sleep at night.”

“I want to take something to help me sleep.”

“Mai says with a small ‘hmm’ sound, stretching her body lazily.”

“Fine, why not come stay with me then?”

    “I’m more than happy to….”

“Kitagami Yoru teases her with a joke before she can speak.”

“Sakurajima Mai wraps her hand around Kitagami Yoru’s side, gently squeezing him through his school uniform.”

“Soft flesh, the squeeze still hurts a bit.”

    “What, daydreaming?”

“Sakurajima Mai raises her head, her sharp eyes staring at Kitagami Yoru as she stops to speak.”

“Few people are on Commercial Street.”

“In the warm sunset, Kitagami Yoru’s shadow is cast.”

“The only one not seeing Sakurajima Mai’s presence.”

“Smirking, Kitagami Yoru doesn’t respond to Sakurajima Mai.”

    “Ranting…”

“Using her shoe, Sakurajima Mai gently taps at Kitagami Yoru’s foot before quickly pulling it back.”

    “Continuing forward.”

“No matter if Kitagami Yoru’s jokes are true or not, Sakurajima Mai won’t get angry.”

    “If…”

“Some people are truly bad, and in this situation….”

“She might be locked in a small dark room….”

“No, she might have had enough of Kitagami Yoru’s teasing and chosen a dishonorable way to die for her cause!”

    “Hmm…”

“Assuming Kitagami Yoru truly wants to harm her, there’s still no risk….”

“Sakurajima-senpai, when you come, have you washed your feet?”

    Continuing to play jokes.

“Washing feet? You really say that about me….”

Sakurajima Mai first looks surprised, then angrily says:

“I don’t particularly like the taste of big-footed girls.”

Kitagami Yoru holds back his laughter.

In his mind, several fragments flash by.

“You keep talking, or I’ll stop paying attention to you from now on.”

    “Perverted Onii-chan!”

Sakurajima Mai threateningly glares at Kitagami Yoru.

Despite being obvious that he’s joking, Kitagami Yoru continues to laugh, mocking Sakurajima Mai’s embarrassing situation and making him quite happy.

“Sakurajima-senpai, you could just not ignore me?”

Kitagami Yoru keeps laughing, seemingly mocking Sakurajima Mai’s embarrassment and enjoying himself.

They chat and head to the station.

“I’ll go use the restroom for a bit.”

“And I’ll just swipe my card in.”

Kitagami Yoru waves goodbye as Sakurajima Mai walks toward the Convenience Store across the street.

The station restroom is less than ideal.

    “Let me eat enough….”

With a slight excitement, he sniffs his nose, as Kitagami Yoru’s recent temper seems unusually large.

He swipes his card to enter the station and checks the next bus schedule on his phone.

Encountering a familiar face, Kasumigaoka Utaha.

The other person is bent over pressing their phone, presumably doing something.

“Check the progress bar on the treasure box.”

Kitagami Yoru narrows his eyes and a thought flashes through his mind.

Familiar treasure chest, floating above Kasumigaoka Utaha’s head.

Progress bar, similar to what Kitagami Yoru thought earlier.

    “About 15%… I think.”

“Compared to the first two times, it’s significantly harder.”

Because of the treasure chest, Kitagami Yoru starts hesitating whether to approach and greet her.

The woman in black tights and stockings, whose legs sway seductively as she walks, is incredibly tempting.

    …….

Frantically pressing the phone, which is fake.

Kasumigaoka Utaha is just typing randomly to vent her suffering.

Tomoya Aki is making it so much worse for her.

She could have skipped the anxiety medication, but now she’s stuck with it.

She has no choice but to take it.

    “Take it easy….”

“Kasumigaoka Utaha, you’re an independent person. How are Tomoya Aki and Eriri related to you?”

“He is who he is, and you are who you are.”

Trying to analyze the relationship between Kasumigaoka Utaha and Tomoya Aki, she realizes she doesn’t like Tomoya Aki as much anymore.

    It’s not based on anything.

Instead, it’s just making her angry because he keeps pushing her buttons.

Her frustration builds up little by little and eventually explodes!

She feels a bit better but gets annoyed enough to lock her phone and turns away with an exasperated look.

    Finally, she regains her composure.

    “Wait?”

A thump-thump sound makes Kasumigaoka Utaha turn towards the station bench on her left, looking like she’s seen a ghost.

    Okay.

And then there’s Kitagami Yoru again.

    Fated encounters, right?

This frequency, catch up with her weekly yoga class count.

    mutual glances.

Kitagami Yoru lightly nods, acting as a greeting.

He’s thinking about opening the treasure chest inside.

Starting with four in total: Shinomiya Kaguya and Mafuyu Kirisu.

Possibly Hayasaka Ai, who might have a hidden connection with Shinomiya Kaguya.

The last one, also the easiest, is Kasumigaoka Utaha.

“Given what happened over the past few days, it’s actually allowed me to establish some initial communication and understanding with Kasumigaoka Utaha.”

    “Should I ask her out?”

Kitagami Yoru begins to consider this plan.

With such high self-esteem, Kasumigaoka Utaha will likely reject him without hesitation.

While thinking about it, the girl approaches him.

    “Kitagami Yoru.”

    Kasumigaoka Utaha calls out proactively.

    “I’m here.”

Thinking about the situation, Kitagami Yoru can only respond with his instincts.

The response is a bit delayed; he looks up at Kasumigaoka Utaha.

    “Are you alone?”

Kasumigaoka Utaha bites her lip and hesitantly opens her mouth.

    Who knows what she’s thinking?

    “No, there is something.”

Kitagami Yoru decisively shakes his head in refusal and asks:

“You wouldn’t be trying to ask me out, would you?”

“I say, I really want to date you.”

Despite her internal hesitation, Kasumigaoka Utaha answers in this way.

The real situation is, she’s unsure whether she even wants to go out with Kitagami Yoru.

It seems like this is all part of a plan to repay Tomoya Aki for accompanying Eriri.

Kitagami Yoru looks shocked, as if he heard something sinister, and locks eyes with Kasumigaoka Utaha again in earnest.

His crimson eyes are fixed on him, just like hers.

    “Not?”

    “Are you serious?”

    “That night, I almost… “

“Kasumigaoka Utaha asked me out herself. Could it be a scam?”

Muttering to himself, Kitagami Yoru doesn’t continue speaking.

    “Are you going?”

Kasumigaoka Utaha starts to feel nervous as she watches Kitagami Yoru’s expression. He threatens her with the idea of taking her to a couple hotel, forcing her to relive the nightmare in the cloud, acting like a possessed person.

The memory buries itself deep within Kasumigaoka Utaha’s heart.

    Especially…

    That moment…

She feels like she might burn alive!

It was the first time she had a dream about him, and now she’s having dreams where they’re together—Kasumigaoka Utaha isn’t so easy to forget this nightmare.

    “Not going.”

Kitagami Yoru doesn’t hesitate. He says calmly,

    Observing Kasumigaoka Utaha’s reaction carefully.

    “Not going?”

It seems Kasumigaoka Utaha is surprised and asks, looking at him.

    “You’re refusing me?”

The guy in front of her—a complete psychopath—refuses her invitation for the weekend.

    “It’s not going to happen.”

Kitagami Yoru still shook his head, seeing nothing.

Except for surprise and unexpected occurrences.

    “Surprised you turned me down?”

    Kasumigaoka Utaha?

He muttered the name inwardly, then glanced toward the station entrance as Kitagami Yoru turned back.

Sakurajima Mai needs ten minutes, huh…

There’s still time; waiting a bit more won’t hurt.

“I didn’t say anything; it was just a temporary interest.”

Kasumigaoka Utaha felt a surge of frustration at being rejected, though she wasn’t sure why.

Being turned down by one after another made her feel out of sorts, like an aging beauty used to being chased.

The conversation shifted to a different topic.

Kasumigaoka Utaha turned away and looked at the train that had just entered the station a minute ago.

    How unlucky.

That’s the one going straight to the hospital.

The next train is in seven minutes.

    “It’s on.”

Kitagami Yoru watched as the train pulled out of the station, glancing at Kasumigaoka Utaha.

Just a little, still with a hint of smugness.

Kasumigaoka Utaha must be feeling bad, right?

But she came to me first; it’s pretty unconventional behavior. Could it have something to do with that Ethics-kun guy?

    In about three minutes.

Sakurajima Mai rushed back, apologizing with a smile as she stood beside Kitagami Yoru.

“How long until the next bus comes?”

    “It’s coming soon.”

Kitagami Yoru pretended to wipe his nose, covered his mouth, glanced at Sakurajima Mai and said.

The station is crowded with various eyes, avoiding any unusual glances.

“Well, I’m talking to you when no one’s around.”

Sakurajima Mai exhaled the fragrance helplessly, and said sympathetically.

    She finished saying that.

She turned her head towards the surroundings.

Seeing Kasumigaoka Utaha wearing Shuchiin Academy uniform, just a side glance made her feel familiar.

    “She is….”

    “Probably…”

Sakurajima Mai knew Kasumigaoka Utaha, but the vague memory of her name escaped her.

She then opened her small bag and took out her phone to search for something.

Remembering that she’s a busy celebrity, nearly neglecting her studies as a Shuchiin Academy third grader.

    The streetcar is arriving.

Kitagami Yoru pulled up Sakurajima Mai’s hand, and they entered the car.

Meanwhile, Sakurajima Mai also looked up Kasumigaoka Utaha.

The car was mostly empty, with plenty of seats available.

Kasumigaoka Utaha and Kitagami Yoru were not sitting together in the same car.

    “School brother… you see…”

With Kitagami Yoru beside her, Sakurajima Mai’s body emitted a faint citrus scent as she pointed towards Kasumigaoka Utaha.

Kitagami Yoru looked at him and said in a self-deprecating tone: “You’re not as good-looking without Sakurajima-senpai.”

    “You’ve gone bad, school brother!”

Sakurajima Mai kicked Kitagami Yoru playfully.

Despite knowing he would respond like that, she was still happy.

    “How’s it going at school?”

Is it really so popular among the girls?

Sakurajima Mai’s eyes flash brilliantly as she tries to read through Kitagami Yoru.

    “Not really.”

Kitagami Yoru naturally ignores his intimate relationship with Fujiwara Chika.

    “You’re lying!”

From her expressions, Sakurajima Mai feigns a lie.

Deep down inside, she doesn’t believe Kitagami Yoru’s nonsense either.

A healthy body and a handsome appearance—why wouldn’t a teenage boy talk about love during his youth?

Even if you think about it with your little finger, it’s still impossible.

“I’m the kind of person who would make the perfect lover or mistress, right?”

“No one can catch you cheating.”

Sakurajima Mai grabs Kitagami Yoru’s head by the hair, otherwise he’ll play dumb.

    “Tell me the truth!”

She adds another statement to make Kitagami Yoru face this issue.

Because it’s important to Sakurajima Mai.

    She likes Kitagami Yoru.

It’s not possible right now—how deep-rooted is this love?

    But in the future….

Only Kitagami Yoru can be by her side.

Assuming she’s in a normal state, pairing with Kitagami Yoru would be effortless.

But this world doesn’t operate on assumptions.

The one who holds the power is Kitagami Yoru.

Sakurajima Mai believes that her relationship with Kitagami Yoru won’t continue.

    Her uncertainty is 99%.

I don’t think I’ve ever been that ambitious.

Kitagami Yoru’s choice, there are many.

    “True words are…”

“I can’t guarantee giving you all my love, but I promise I will love you forever and never abandon you.”

Following that force, Kitagami Yoru turns to look at Sakurajima Mai, about to laugh out loud from his own words.

What are all these things for…?

“Idiot, I don’t want to be your third emotion.”

Sakurajima Mai says it in a sweet voice, then moves aside to sit properly.

The streetcar is running smoothly and fast.

    After three stops.

Coming to the hospital, which was once Kitagami Yoru’s hospital.

“I start to regret it. You’re stronger than any medicine.”

Dragging Sakurajima Mai off the streetcar, she begins to regret in the background.

Unable to sleep at night, she asks the doctor for sleeping pills to help her sleep—it’s Sakurajima Mai’s initial thought.

    There’s no reason.

    It’s just that I can’t sleep.

Sleeping pills are controlled substances, and Japan has strict controls over such drugs.

    Selling them is illegal.

For serious cases, they get sent to prison.

Sakurajima Mai is mooching off Kitagami Yoru to swipe her card and exit the store.

“You just say it’s stressful, open some sleeping pills. I might not even take them.”

“Meeting something like this, feeling bad is natural, almost died from the illness…”

Kitagami Yoru would prefer that Sakurajima Mai doesn’t go collect dirt on the Shinomiya family. He just hopes she can recover normally.

On Fridays, there’s a good crowd.

Kitagami Yoru and his team are moving without much pause.

A tourist was occupying the seat in front of her, and she wasn’t quite sure how to use the ticket for exiting.

It seemed like she was sitting in the wrong place, and a staff member reminded her that she had missed her exit time.

Kasumigaoka Utaha stepped out, swiping her melon card as she turned to look at Kitagami Yoru.

    “He’s exiting from here too?”

When the gates opened, Kasumigaoka Utaha walked out ahead.

The distance to the hospital is about three hundred meters if you walk.

Kitagami Yoru later accompanied Sakurajima Mai as they headed toward the hospital, familiar with the route.

It wasn’t long before Kasumigaoka Utaha encountered the same destination—again, the hospital.

She followed behind until she entered the main building of the clinic.

When she tried to register at the psychology and psychiatry department, Kasumigaoka Utaha realized Kitagami Yoru might have been following her.

“So that’s why he refused me? Hmph…”

Finding a convenient excuse, Kasumigaoka Utaha followed the directions to proceed to the clinic room.

Kitagami Yoru was at the adjacent window completing his registration.

He used his own name for the appointment, including the face-to-face session.

    “Do you know Kasumigaoka Utaha?”

A beauty not a hair less than herself, Sakurajima Mai would only avoid paying attention if she made a conscious effort.

“I do know her, but our relationship isn’t that close.”

Kitagami Yoru honestly replied, dragging Sakurajima Mai away from the registration window.

He didn’t think much about it.

Who knows if Kasumigaoka Utaha would also visit a psychiatrist?

The fifth-floor waiting area was empty and quiet.

When Kitagami Yoru and Sakurajima Mai arrived, they noticed Kasumigaoka Utaha’s footsteps paused.

    “She also sees a psychiatrist?”

Sakurajima Mai stood on the edge, quietly looking at Kitagami Yoru as she spoke.

    But in Kasumigaoka Utaha’s eyes,

From the station to the hospital,

Only Kitagami Yoru was following her every step.

“How did you end up here, Kitagami Yoru?”

Kasumigaoka Utaha hesitated for a moment before standing up in surprise.

Kitagami Yoru turned blankly toward Sakurajima Mai, his gaze vacant but tinged with frustration.

“Kitagami, you seem to have some unusual connection with Kasumigaoka Utaha-san.”

Sakurajima Mai’s eyes darted between Kitagami Yoru and Kasumigaoka Utaha.

    “Ugh…”

Kitagami Yoru let out a bitter smile, looking back at Kasumigaoka Utaha.

Kasumigaoka Utaha couldn’t see Sakurajima Mai.

In her view, from the train station to now,

Only Kitagami Yoru had been trailing behind her.

    “Hmm…”

Kasumigaoka Utaha probably thought of something interesting, smirking slightly as she raised her head.
