Let Kitagami Yoru take me home in three sentences.
“Is that a joke? You’re not fooling me, are you?”
“You’ve been lying to me this whole time?”
Miura Yumiko recalls the classroom incident where Kitagami Yoru tricked her and they both fell.
“What’s the point of lying?”
“I’ll wait for Ebina-san to explain, then I’ll tell you.”
Kitagami Yoru has no intention of playing a joke.
Continuing to let Miura Yumiko misunderstand, this arrogant but somewhat dim blonde girl might just blow the whole thing out of proportion.
If Fujiwara Chika finds out, he won’t rest until he peels off another layer.
“Get the vaccine ready just in case.”Kitagami Yoru mutters to himself.
“Maybe I should ask Hina. It’ll be like talking to myself.”
Miura Yumiko flashes an impatient look.
The two, both physically and mentally uncomfortable, stop the argument.
A few minutes later,
Ebina Hina is holding a bag filled with frozen drinks.
“I bought water. Not sure what you’d prefer now.”
“Pure water and mineral water are both available. Take your pick.”
She catches her breath as she opens the bag.
They rush to a small Supermarket near Mom’s Pasture, buy drinks, then run back.
“Why am I buying this for Kitagami Yoru?”
Miura Yumiko glares at Kitagami Yoru, glances into the bag, and grabs a juice bottle.
Despite her mental fear, Miura Yumiko’s legs feel a bit weak but otherwise manages fine.
“I’ll have a cola. It’s cold.”
Kitagami Yoru pointed to the visible soda can and said to Ebina Hina.
“Did you drink that?”
Ebina Hina looked uncertain at Kitagami Yoru, saying this situation was too awkward.
“No problem, I just like drinking this. The ice makes it more comfortable.”
Kitagami Yoru lightly shook his head.
He carefully opened the tab on the soda can and handed it to Ebina Hina.
“Hina, Kitagami Yoru should be the one saying this. I already told you.”
After drinking a mouthful of juice, Miura Yumiko glanced at Kitagami Yoru and spoke to Ebina Hina.
“I think he’s lying, so that’s why he said all that.”
“What?”
Ebina Hina looked astonished and turned her head away.
“I didn’t say a single word. Don’t go around lying.”
Miura-san is curious, and our relationship isn’t right.”
Kitagami Yoru quickly refuted this.
After a moment’s pause, Ebina Hina smiled and said: “I’m just friends with Kitagami-san.”
“Hina, what happens if you tell the truth?”
Miura Yumiko narrowed her grandmother’s green eyes.
“Miura-san, are you in love with Hayama Hayato?”
Meanwhile, Kitagami Yoru quietly inserted himself into the conversation.
After that, he let out a full soda can’s worth of sound and immediately felt his stomach deflate.
“How I feel is none of your business. Mind your own business.”
Miura Yumiko turned her head toward Kitagami Yoru.
“You all know, you like Hayama Hayato, and your relationship is so good. Why not confess already?”
“Basically, they just grab any random person from the class to ask about something, and out of ten people, at least half probably know.”
Kitagami Yoru spoke in a tense, almost confrontational tone, holding a cola can in his left hand and nervously stroking his chin with his right.
“Ah? Kitagami Yoru, what are you even saying?”
“Do you have any relation to her?”
“I was talking to Hina. Get away from me!”
Miura Yumiko’s words struck at the heart of Kitagami Yoru, and she spoke with a much louder volume.
Her tone was almost confrontational, attacking Kitagami Yoru harshly.
Seeing the situation escalate, Ebina Hina quickly pulled Miura Yumiko’s hand and dragged her away.
She glanced back at Kitagami Yoru as they left.
“Why now? We were getting along so well before.”
“Going out, we’ve done it several times consecutively. It’s… maddening….”
She sighed and complained with a sense of helplessness while pulling Miura Yumiko away from Kitagami Yoru.
“Hina, can you let go now?”
Terrified, Miura Yumiko’s thoughts and actions were all resistant, but her body betrayed her, allowing Ebina Hina to pull her away.
“Yumiko, calm down. You have nothing to worry about.”
“I absolutely stand by you.”
Ebina Hina nodded and pulled her hand back, seriously responding to Miura Yumiko.
She calmed herself down while comforting her close friend.
“I’m so angry with Kitagami Yoru!”
Upon hearing this, Miura Yumiko felt awkward and couldn’t complain to Ebina Hina about Kitagami Yoru. She could only blame him instead.
“Yes, it’s not right to treat people like that. I’ll go talk to her.”
Grasped her friend’s hand tightly, Ebina Hina continued to comfort her with one word.
Kitagami Yoru stood still, not moving a single step.
Looking at Ebina Hina as she quickly ran back, he smiled.
“Kitagami-san, please ask me for a favor….”
“Can you stay away from Yumiko a bit more? She’s soft when approached gently, but not so much otherwise. Don’t be too pushy.”
“I don’t know who to help anymore.”
Upon Ebina Hina’s arrival, she began discussing the matter.
“Miura has been asking me about this matter.”
“You have your reasons, and I do too….”
You’re afraid Tobe Kakeru will confess to you and you’ll have to refuse him. I’m afraid of being your shield, letting others know about our relationship.”
“I’m really worried about Miura-san’s behavior. Do you know what kind of person she is?”
Kitagami Yoru forced a smile.
“Yumiko likes Hayama, I swear….”
“It’s such a tough situation…”
Ebina Hina impatiently grabbed her hair.
“I don’t mind helping you occasionally. Just make sure Miura-san keeps quiet.”
“She’s coming over….”
During the conversation, Kitagami Yoru saw Miura Yumiko approaching with large steps and quickly warned her.
“Kitagami-san, don’t say anything. I’ll handle it.”
Ebina Hina turned quickly and pushed Kitagami Yoru’s hand away.
“Hina, let’s go.”
Miura Yumiko hadn’t yet arrived, but her voice reached their ears first.
“It’s not too bad. Not like an interrogation.”
Glad about a small mutter, Ebina Hina cheerfully responds, not wanting these two to be any farther apart than they already are.
“Let’s go, Yumiko.”
“Remember what I said, Ebina-san.”
Kitagami Yoru watches them off with a wave.
Getting an OK gesture from the group, Kitagami Yoru finishes his cola in one go and decides to sit down for a rest.
The park closes at exactly seven o’clock.
Not long after.
At precisely seven.
Kitagami Yoru and the current group are waiting for a car to take them back to Tokyo’s city center, each with their own intentions.
“Yuigahama-san, what’s this…”
Seeing Yuigahama Yui’s legs wrapped in gauze, Kitagami Yoru can’t help but inquire.
“You’re okay…?”
“Wait, you were fine before? How did you hurt your leg?”
“It’s nothing, I just tripped while daydreaming.”
Yuigahama Yui lowers her head, apologizing sheepishly.
“You’ll be okay for school tomorrow?”
Miura Yumiko finally notices Yuigahama Yui’s injury.
“Let me see.”
Forcing a faint smile, Yuigahama Yui responds.
The atmosphere among the current group was already tense due to Kitagami Yoru’s presence.
After a day of play, Yuigahama Yui gets hit with milk in the face and accidentally injures her leg, not thinking about saying anything.
Miura Yumiko, who bears a grudge against Kitagami Yoru, is deeply concerned, staring out the window all the way home, ignoring everything else.
The remaining people, having spent the day working on a boat car, are almost exhausted in their energy.
Quietly returning to Tokyo’s city center.
Changing to an express train at Shinjuku Station, one group of people gets off from the train carriage.
Yuigahama Yui walks, slightly inconvenient as she pulls on her wound. The pain would be quite bad if she tugs it too much.
“Yumiko, I’ll take Yui home, you go slowly.”
Ebina Hina stands beside Yuigahama Yui and waves at Miura Yumiko.
“Well, be careful on your way.”
Miura Yumiko responds, glancing at Hayama Hayato who’s holding his tongue before leaving alone.
It’s not suitable for a male to send Yuigahama Yui home; after saying goodbye separately, they go their own ways.
Kitagami Yoru is the last one to decide whether to stay or leave.
Suspectingfully glancing at the two girls, he opens his mouth and asks, “Do I need to come along?”
“Sure, let’s talk about this on the way.”
Ebina Hina nods and looks at Yuigahama Yui.
“You can go….”
A hint of curiosity in her eyes, Yuigahama Yui shrugs it off carelessly.
“Heh heh….”
“Yui…..”
Ebina Hina smiles lightly and drags the inconveniently moving Yuigahama Yui away.
After a short distance, she playfully smiles and asks Yuigahama Yui, “Yui, why are you lost in thought? Did something happen?”
Ebina Hina is unaware that Yuigahama Yui is thinking about the time she was publicly embarrassed while being drenched in milk.
In her mind, Yuigahama Yui’s distraction must be due to her good relationship with Kitagami Yoru, causing him to think randomly.
“No, nothing.”
Yuigahama Yui denies it.
“Are you thinking about Kitagami-san, though?”
Laughing softly, Ebina Hina turns to look at Kitagami Yoru.
“No, Hina, don’t keep calling him ‘Kitagami-san’.”
Yuigahama Yui denies it again, looking embarrassed.
“Don’t worry, I don’t like Kitagami-san, and he doesn’t like me either.”
“We’re just putting on an act. Call him over here; I even paid a price for it….”
Ebina Hina thinks it’s necessary for Yuigahama Yui, who likes Kitagami Yoru, to understand this.
If there’s a misunderstanding, how are we going to ruin the lifelong plans of good friends?
As Miura Yumiko said, like Kitagami Yoru mentioned, her mouth isn’t very strict. She’s mostly just foolish and doesn’t align with common sense.
And she likes Hayama Hayato; the situation is exactly the same.
Ebina Hina is not too willing to tell them the truth, still hesitating.
“Just an act, huh, Hina….”
Yuigahama Yui looks like she’s seen Ebina Hina for the first time.
“Tobe likes me, you know that, right?”
Ebina Hina asks back.
“I do know.”
Yuigahama Yui isn’t very quick to understand things like this.
She needs to answer Ebina Hina’s question first before she can really think about it.
The friend’s response is something Ebina Hina never expected.
“Did you figure it out?”
She pauses for a moment, then asks curiously.
“Kitagami-san told me about this earlier.”
Yuigahama Yui seems to have thought of something.
During their conversation, Kitagami Yoru approaches and goes upstairs to change clothes.
“Yes, Tobe likes me, but I don’t like him. You can assume that.”
“He’s pursuing me or trying to confess; I’ll just have to refuse, and then…”
Ebina Hina directly states the most truthful reason.
“It will be awkward. We can’t get along. Just pretend it never happened.”
Yuigahama Yui quickly interjects.
“So I’m asking Kitagami Yoru to help me act, pretending that I like him.”
“Won’t this make Yui sad?”
Ebina Hina smiles faintly and says.
“Why is it Kitagami-san….”
Yuigahama Yui asks.
“Because, besides Kitagami-san, I seem to have run out of boys I can talk to.”
“And also, I suddenly pulled a boy over—his compatibility isn’t even close to Kitagami-san’s.”
“In terms of classmates, every day you see more girls liking him because he’s handsome.”
Ebina Hina explains.
“Who likes him….”
Yuigahama Yui feels awkward and doesn’t dare face her true feelings.
“Well, whether you like him or not, I don’t like him. It won’t affect you.”
“Also… if you need help, I can do it effectively.”
“I’m very convenient and can quote Kitagami-san’s lines perfectly….”
Ebina Hina slowly leaned toward Yuigahama Yui’s ear, biting down on it as she spoke.
“Oh my gosh… um… uh… Hina, don’t tease me…”
The pale-faced girl let out meaningless sounds in protest.
“I told Kitagami-san that you like her—does it feel good?”
Ebina Hina hadn’t forgotten her promise to Kitagami Yoru.
A huge secret
She could think of only one thing in her power, besides that.
It was about her own past.
“Come on, tell me about Yumiko. I have a feeling she’s not right.”
Yuigahama Yui forced the conversation away from that topic.
After saying that, she remembered that Miura Yumiko also liked Hayama Hayato but had never been together or confessed.
The situation was exactly the same.
Climbing the stairs, Kitagami Yoru coughed twice and followed her up.
“Where does Kitagami-san live?”
Ebina Hina turned naturally to ask the question.
“She lives in a single apartment near School, within walking distance of two stations. It’s not too far.”
Kitagami Yoru answered without thinking.
“Wow, that’s close. I live on the opposite side… it’s actually pretty far.”
Ebina Hina slightly furrowed her brow and sighed.
Standing there, Yuigahama Yui almost lost her mind.
“So you just ask a boy where he lives? That’s straightforward enough.”
“Hina is so generous and brave… it’s amazing she doesn’t even fear….”
Secretly surprised, Yuigahama Yui fantasized about it….
Alright, then…
“Why not let me take Yui home? My place is pretty far.”
Suddenly, Ebina Hina showed a struggling expression for an instant before quickly shifting to a probing look.
“I don’t mind, you can leave early from your house.”
Kitagami Yoru didn’t think at all; he was already caught in Ebina Hina’s trap.
“Yui can go too. I just asked her, so please do it for me.”
Ebina Hina kept blinking at Kitagami Yoru, signaling the secret code between siblings.
“I’ll take you home, Yuigahama-san.”
Kitagami Yoru looked down at Yuigahama Yui’s injured ankle.
