Chapter 1 Dungeon Oratoria: The Great Conflict – Prelude
“We will stand firm, forever singing your praise for defeating the Demon King and saving the continent… even after you die!”
“Nonsense. He’s already running out of Mana! With so many people here, he shouldn’t be able to kill us all.”
“Sorry, your era was too restrictive.”
…
[Tik tok tok. Respected Noah, good afternoon, congratulations on being selected by No. 10086 (Hero System) as the Destiny for this event, and the system will assist you in easily and pleasantly saving The World!]
…
A dark alley drenched with rain, filled with water-filled cobblestones, has a silver-haired youth lying on it.
Under a broken gray armor, the body is covered in deep, visible bone injuries.
Blood seeps out and slowly colors the standing water.
Cold rain falls down, sliding over half of the cracked visor of the helmet, smacking the pale face.
Suddenly, his eyebrows tighten.
His hand gripping a long sword trembles slightly. The young man suddenly opens his eyes wide, with blue irises reflecting a hazy sky.
“…Please go to hell.”
A face filled with intent to kill appears again in front of him, shocking his consciousness out of the chaos. He instinctively sits up.
But in the next second, because of the intense pain and weakness spreading throughout his body, he fainted for a moment.
Cold sweat dripped from his brow as Noah narrowly avoided unconsciousness once more.
He quickly assessed the environment around him, realizing that despite its unfamiliarity, there was no immediate danger. With a sigh of relief, he returned to consciousness and curled up with his wound, holding it tightly.
“Ugh!”
After catching his breath for a while, Noah regained some strength and crawled to the edge of the wall where he could barely avoid the rain.
He removed the shattered visor of his helmet, revealing his pale face.
After taking a few deep breaths, Noah finally had enough strength to look around again.
All he could see was the gray sky above him and the four walls surrounding him in the alley. There was nothing else to be seen.
The only thing he could be certain of was that this wasn’t the same battlefield he had fought against the Demon King or a group of traitors in the desert.
“No, where did I get all that from? This must still be on the mainland.”
As he wandered aimlessly, Noah suddenly heard a faint electrical hum in his ear.
His body tensed as he gripped his long sword tightly, glancing around with his peripheral vision.
He didn’t see any enemies coming toward him, but a faint blue glow appeared before him.
[Drop, detected that the current World is (confused about what he’s seeking in the Dungeon) / (he’s seeking something else), The World.]
Looking at the screen before him, Noah only seemed to be filled with a small amount of confusion.
“What is this nonsense? What are you asking for?”
Noah had heard of the Dungeon—a deep cave filled with monstrous creatures.
He heard about Dungeon seekers of wealth and power, even those seeking violence, but a partner was something new to him.
Talkin’ ’bout love in a blood-soaked Monster world?
Hmm…
Even Noah, who had killed countless beings and could eat lunch beside Corpses with true liver brains, felt a bit queasy.
But Noah quickly discovered another key point.
“So, the world now? I’m just running to a different world?”
[Drop, definitely, this world is in a different dimension from where you were before.]
Noah fell into a brief silence.
In an instant, Noah doubted whether he had been deceived by an illusion.
But with confidence, he dismissed the possibility.
That confidence was in himself… even while severely injured, no one could make him lose his grip on the illusion without him noticing.
And it was also for his former companions… no one dared to risk bringing themselves back alive, otherwise they’d be labeled traitors and face death.
After understanding this, Noah relaxed his guard, instinctively wrapping his arms around his body.
He didn’t know if it was because the Body was losing too much blood and felt cold, or because he was overwhelmed by his situation.
As a Hero, Noah had killed countless enemies on his path to saving the world.
Traitors, bandits, beasts, and alien races were already hard to count among the external threats. More importantly, Noah never held back when it came to internal traitors.
Corrupt officials who oppressed civilians, wasteful nobles, and bloodthirsty religious groups…
A significant portion of these were older mentors, classmates, teachers, friends, or even former allies of Noah’s own comrades.
Many of them had been born into poverty and hardship, fighting alongside Noah for justice in their youth.
Until they were corrupted by power and became the very people Noah despised most, turning into his enemies.
Therefore, Noah had anticipated the growing divergence between himself and others.
But he hadn’t expected them to act so directly, so eager for a fight.
No, no, actually, Noah had a premonition…The Demon King had been destroyed, and he was at his weakest, which was the best time for him to die with a clear conscience. How could those people bear it?
But he hadn’t realized that even Noah himself had become as hard as steel after countless battles. He still carried a faint trace of the softness and longing left by his old friendship.
It was this last bit of softness that made Noah, who had grown weary to the point of exhaustion, relax his guard for the first time and make a risky decision.
…With the death of the Demon King, the Hero’s mission had also come to an end. If everyone was looking forward to his death, then Noah could also take a long nap.
Of course, Noah took all the traitors with him in the end.
[Drop, as long as the host continues to complete the mission, there is a chance to return to the original The World.]
“…No, no need, I have already paid enough for that The World, the rest is up to them to go on their own.”
Noah shook his head and slowly stood up, leaning against the wall.
He looked up at the hazy sky, feeling the raindrops fall down.
“…Next, I should live for myself.”
Taking a step toward the door, Noah’s attention gradually shifted back to reality.
To an unknown Otherworld?
A strange sense of excitement and tension surged through his heart, reminding him of himself at twelve years old, carrying the village’s best sword to the capital from the countryside.
Back then, he was like a newly forged sword, sharp and gleaming, believing that only swordsmanship could cut down everything evil and unjust and bring happiness to the world.
But fate’s cruel joke taught Noah about power, strategy, and balance, turning him into a mediocre Hero with nothing but calculation, planning, and caution in his heart.
If he were compared to a weapon, he would indeed be a rusty, dull sword.
Despite countless times of using “This is for Justice” to self-hypnotize, Noah understands that before his armor became stained with blood, his soul was already in a wretched state.
But now, he feels the same excitement as when he first entered the capital, due to the unknown.
Coming to this world, what will I encounter?
With this thought in mind, Noah stepped out of the alley.
Bitter Winter Wind intertwined with Frozen Rain swept across the streets, clearing Noah’s vision instantly and drawing his attention to the scene before him.
A wide avenue paved with blue stone laid out before him, with shops lined on both sides of the street.
Merchants dressed in merchant robes, adventurers carrying weapons, and residents carrying baskets and backpacks.
The most important thing is that there are strong Half-Orcs wearing vibrant Amazonian armor, elegant Elves, or beautiful men and women with a transcendental air, all naturally mixed together in various races.
More importantly, at the ends of the streets on both sides……one side surrounded by massive stone walls enclosing the entire town, and the other side is a towering white marble tower in the center of the town.
Everything here feels familiar yet entirely different from what Noah has seen before, with Mana convergence forming scenes he has never encountered in his past life.
But in the next second, he opened his eyes wide.
“I’m going! There’s also a child trafficking ring in this world?”
