Chapter 100 Matou Sakura: I refuse to call you dad!
The elevation of Enzou mountain isn’t particularly high, but as one of Fuyuki City’s famous scenic spots, its expansive view is a major advantage.
Standing in front of the mountain gate, one can easily scan the city shrouded in the twilight haze, and even the distant horizon where the sea and sky blend into a deep indigo is faintly visible.
And so, when dusk falls and the temperature difference between day and night reverses, the cold wind in front of the mountain gate is especially fierce, carrying a hint of salty, humid air.
The wind howls through the mountains, whipping up a roar like a mighty wave crashing against the shore, as if the ocean itself is right beside one’s ear.
But in Matou Sakura’s world, those winds have disappeared, and all she can hear is the familiar Heartbeat.
And that soft whisper…
“Sakura, you’ve worked hard.”
Although it’s just a light, airy phrase, it fills the enormous hole in Matou Sakura’s heart once more.
The warmth enveloping her seems to melt the icy, hard parts within her, refilling her heart and even overflowing it.
It’s like drinking a large cup of scalding bitter tea – the scalding heat, the sourness, the bitterness, the melancholy, the sense of injustice… Matou Sakura can’t even distinguish the complex emotions swirling within her, and her chest feels like it’s going to explode.
She mustn’t cry, mustn’t be disobedient, mustn’t throw a tantrum; meeting Onii-chan is already the happiest, most fortunate thing in the world, and she can’t ask for more… Although she’s always been strict with herself, Matou Sakura’s vision still blurs for a moment.
“Why, why do you have to leave?! Is it something I did wrong? Can’t you stay by my side forever?”
Clutching Noah’s collar tightly, Matou Sakura looks up at him with a tear-filled face, like an abandoned young beast.
“I’ll do anything! Just please stay with me, Onii-chan…”
Holding Matou Sakura, who is as light as a kitten, Noah doesn’t speak, only gazing at her with a gentle, crystal-clear gaze.
His azure eyes, which reflect his face perfectly, radiate a magical Mana, making Matou Sakura feel as though she’s soaking in warm spring water, and the collapsing emotions within her calm down miraculously.
Wiping away Matou Sakura’s tears with his sleeve, Noah looks out at the city before them.
In this world, the coastal city before them is neither big nor small, with old residential areas and newly built commercial districts, making it seem rather ordinary.
However, for Noah, this is more than enough to experience the wonders of this new world.
But this was still far from enough, as Noah wanted to explore more worlds, challenge stronger opponents, and understand more of the unknown.
After Noah’s gaze left, Matou Sakura’s originally calm heart began to waver.
Although she didn’t continue to cry out loud, she couldn’t help but sob, knowing that Noah’s voice was ringing in her ears.
“Sakura, what’s the most painful thing you can remember, something that still hurts you?”
For Matou Sakura, this wasn’t a question that required thought, as the memory was still etched in her mind.
Even after a year, it remained a nightmare that she didn’t want to recall.
During this year, Noah had never mentioned anything about the Tohsaka Household, precisely because he was afraid of hurting her.
Matou Sakura could sense this consideration, but it only made her more confused about why Noah would bring it up now.
However, she keenly felt that this was an opportunity for her and Noah to grow closer, to bridge the gap between their hearts.
It was the first time, and perhaps the last.
“Yes… it was the day they chose my sister and I was sent to the Matou Family…”
The subtle resentment towards Tohsaka Tokiomi and Tohsaka Aoi had led Matou Sakura to refuse to call them father and mother.
This resentment even extended to Tohsaka Rin, despite Matou Sakura knowing it was irrational.
When Matou Sakura realized this, Noah’s voice broke the silence, snapping her out of her trance.
“So, you resent your parents for abandoning you, and you’re afraid of being abandoned again, of being left Alone, right?”
Every individual has a dark corner in their heart, often unknown even to themselves.
And the closer the person, the more they don’t want the other to know.
For Matou Sakura, Noah was no longer just someone close or distant; he was her only connection to this cold, vast world.
So, after Noah pointed out the darkness in her heart, Matou Sakura felt a flutter and fear she hadn’t even experienced when they bathed together, and she involuntarily gripped her clothes tighter.
Will Onii-chan think I’m a Bad Child?
Will Onii-chan hate me?
Is this why Onii-chan wants to leave me?
“Yes, as people grow older, they tend to remember certain events from their childhood, never forgetting them until death. If an individual grows up and forgets their childhood, only remembering happy moments, it means they’ve lived a very happy life, without regret or pain.”
This time, Noah didn’t comfort Matou Sakura, nor did he react in any way; instead, he seemed to be lost in thought, gazing into the distance like a man consumed by memories.
“In a sense, no matter how long one lives, the course of their life may be decided from the moment they’re born… Sakura, this is something I’ll never forget, even in death.”
Despite it being dusk, Noah seemed to have returned to that fateful morning.
He left his past and countless Corpses behind, pressing on towards the vast world beyond the mountain village.
His emotions at the time were as clear as the itch from the dog tail grass brushing against his skin and the chill of dew on his Body.
“I think it was then that I decided what I wanted to do with my life, where I wanted to go, and what kind of person I wanted to become… Sakura, I think you’re feeling the same way now.”
The faint, wistful expression on Noah’s face was one that Matou Sakura had never seen in the past year.
She wondered if Noah was recalling the scenes that had appeared in her own dreams.
Those scenes were filled with the bloody battles that were like nightmares to Matou Sakura.
Thinking about the cruel experiences Noah had endured in his childhood, Matou Sakura felt a surge of hatred and disgust towards the world, and a desire to destroy it immediately.
However, the emotions in those memories were vastly different from Matou Sakura’s.
There was anger and sadness, but more than that, a strong sense of resentment.
Why?
Why was the world so unfair?
Why did so many innocent, kind people get hurt?
Why were the workings of fate and the world so cruel?
If the gods truly existed, were the sufferings of humanity their creation?
That feeling of frustration and resentment was like being trapped in a box, unable to stretch or stand up, wanting to break free and destroy everything.
So, one must fight.
So, one must transcend.
So, one must break free.
One must reach the highest point and see if there’s a being, whether human or god, that’s playing with humanity like ants, and then trample it underfoot.
Matou Sakura knew that these emotions had become a part of Noah’s soul.
It was what drove him to come to this world to save himself.
If she were to force Noah to stop in his tracks and stay, he would no longer be himself.
“So, big brother wants to save others, just like he saved me, right?”
Noah smiled, gently stroking Matou Sakura’s small head.
“I never had the idea of saving and shouldering the burden of everyone in the world; such an ideal is too grand and heavy, and I’m just a relatively selfish person… I just want to trample all those who think they’re above me under my feet!”
At this moment, Matou Sakura finally understood this individual, Noah.
Yet, she would rather turn back time to the past, to an era when she knew nothing about Noah.
It was precisely because she knew the true nature of this individual, Noah, that she couldn’t be selfish and keep him by her side, just like a Master couldn’t keep a powerful Servant like Gilgamesh for personal gain.
However, aside from the sadness brought on by the impending farewell, another emotion was born within Matou Sakura’s heart.
Was it possession, or protection, or perhaps affection, or maybe it was all of the above?
In any case, it was a surge of desire that swallowed all of Matou Sakura’s weaknesses, growing a hundredfold in intensity.
……Since Noah can’t stay, then why can’t I chase after him?
The courage that that wicked woman Asagami Fujino has, I, Matou Sakura, will absolutely not lose to her even a little!
Hmm?
Sensing the change in Matou Sakura’s emotions, Noah couldn’t help but blink, a look of confusion appearing on his face.
I haven’t even had the chance to advise you, and you’re already stepping out?
Although this saves him from worrying further, it does leave him feeling a bit uncomfortable that he couldn’t express the words he had prepared for so long.
“Even though it hurts, even though I really don’t want to accept it, even though I want to cry… it’s okay!”
But before Noah could continue to think, Matou Sakura straightened up, cupping his face, her large eyes, still wet with tears, staring at him.
“Big brother, go do what you want to do! Sakura will definitely support you!”
Hearing such words from a 5 or 6-year-old child made Noah feel a mix of emotions, both wistful and ashamed.
This also led Noah, after much hesitation, to ultimately make a significant decision, looking seriously at Matou Sakura.
“Sakura, this is my first time doing this too, so if you mind, just pretend I never said anything.”
This unprecedented serious expression left Matou Sakura momentarily stunned, and her eyes widened, her little face instantly turning red.
Wait, wait!
Big brother!
What are you trying to say to me!
No matter what, you should wait until I’m 15 or 16 to say it!
It’s illegal right now!!
And I’m not even prepared; I can’t even cook!
“If you don’t mind, I want to become your……”
But seeing Noah’s equally nervous expression, Matou Sakura still managed to suppress her shyness and met him with a serious attitude.
Big brother must also be doing this for the first time, so I can’t let him leave with a heavy heart!
I must respond to him properly!!
Hmph!
It’s just……
“……Daddy!”
In that instant, Matou Sakura felt the world come to a standstill, her mind going blank, with only Noah’s serious expression echoing in her mind.
Noah had mustered immense courage to voice the decision to become Matou Sakura’s father.
Although it’s not uncommon for 16 or 17-year-old men to become fathers in this other world, Noah had only ended his first kiss with an Elf a year ago, and his awareness of his own gender was sparked by Ryougi Shiki.
If it weren’t for the past year of living with Matou Sakura, which had softened his heart, he wouldn’t have thought that he, a killer, would be so attached to someone.
He also wondered if this introverted and taciturn little girl would be able to take care of herself after he left.
As for why he didn’t say the same to Ais, who was around the same age as Matou Sakura?
What a joke!
Ais was a force to be reckoned with and didn’t need his concern.
Noah was a person who didn’t like making promises because he believed that once he made one, he had to see it through to the end.
Having become Matou Sakura’s father figure, he felt responsible for raising her.
If possible, he wanted to take Matou Sakura to the world of Orario as well.
If not, he would have to return to this world several more times.
Sigh, he also had to think about Matou Sakura’s future and her potential boyfriends.
Although he was reluctant, Noah felt that this was only natural and something he had to accept.
He just had one requirement for any potential suitor: they had to be strong enough to defeat him.
This wasn’t too much to ask, was it?
If they couldn’t even beat him, how could they protect Matou Sakura?
However, Noah realized that he was thinking too far ahead.
Because Matou Sakura’s reaction was beyond his expectations.
Noah reached out and patted the stunned Matou Sakura.
In his mind, Matou Sakura should have either been overjoyed and thrown herself into his arms, calling him “Dad,” or been saddened by the memory of Tohsaka Tokiomi and then called him “Dad” after his comfort.
He hadn’t considered the possibility of Failure.
After all, Matou Sakura had clung to him like a koala for the past year.
It was a sure thing, so how could it go wrong?
But now, as Noah looked at Matou Sakura’s expressionless face, he felt a sense of uncertainty.
“Onii-chan, what should I call you?”
“Uh, Dad…”
As soon as Noah uttered the word, Matou Sakura took a deep breath and suddenly drew closer, letting out an unprecedented roar in his ear.
“I won’t do it!! You idiot!!”
Noah swore that, until that moment, he had never expected a little girl to be capable of letting out such a soul-shaking roar.
Not to mention this is Matou Sakura, who usually would cuddle in his arms for hours without saying a word, her voice soft and sweet.
What’s the difference between a kitten suddenly turning into Godzilla?
The double shock to his body and consciousness left Noah unable to react as Matou Sakura wriggled out of his arms, let out a ‘hey-shoo’ and hopped to the ground, waddling like a penguin towards Ryūdō Temple.
This idiot older brother is useless!
A comfortable future can only be achieved on her own… by defeating all the succubi, even dragging Noah back home!
She’s going to find that Medea (Caster) woman and learn Magecraft!
Today’s the day!
Several minutes after Matou Sakura left, Noah snapped out of it, looking utterly despondent and listless as he slumped to the ground.
Ugh, I guess I was too narcissistic.
Who would willingly call someone ‘father’?
Even if he was a jerk.
Noah stared blankly at the horizon until dusk had fully descended, Night Falls setting in, before he shakily stood up and headed to the market to buy some ingredients.
From now on, Ryūdō Temple will be his stronghold.
But just as he stepped off the porch, a wave of Mana from afar jolted him awake.
“Huh? That direction… is Tohsaka Household?”
