Chapter 123 The truth of the Holy Grail War

At the moment Irisviel stepped into the cave, the Magic Circle suddenly burst into light, and the surging Mana swept towards all directions like a raging tide.

No, it wasn’t spreading aimlessly; the target of this Mana was clearly Irisviel.

The hunger conveyed in that atmosphere was like a wolf that had been starving for 7 or 8 days, seeing fresh and delicious meat, and would pounce on it without hesitation, even if it meant facing a hunter’s gun.

The flow of Mana was too fast, and almost everyone failed to react in time.

And the target, Irisviel, was frozen in a daze, staring blankly at the approaching danger, overwhelmed by a strong fear and palpitation in her heart.

At the critical moment, Noah swiftly intervened, slapping the Mana away with a fierce palm.

The scattered Mana transformed into a turbulent Mana storm, creating an eerie, ear-piercing shriek in the narrow cave, causing the cavern to shake.

    “Iris!”

Emiya Kiritsugu, who had come to his senses, felt his heart almost jump out of his chest; he quickly supported his wife, shielding her behind him, and watched Noah with a mixture of calmness and terror.

    A trap?

    Or an accident?

Was this Otherworld hero, who seemed so full of vigor, actually a cunning old fox who had deceived everyone?

Although he drew his gun, Emiya Kiritsugu’s hand was shaking uncontrollably, clearly lacking confidence.

    Would he lose?

    He would lose!

There was no way to win!

However, as he watched Noah’s subsequent actions, he felt a sense of puzzlement.

“You bastard! Come on! Cheat! Come! You’re trying to ambush, aren’t you? You didn’t come out earlier, but now that you have, don’t think you can leave! Don’t give me face! You’re seeking death!”

Logically speaking, Mana shouldn’t have a physical form, but as Emiya Kiritsugu watched Noah punch and kick the Light Sphere, he couldn’t help but feel as if he was seeing a thug beating up on a lone opponent, punching and kicking them mercilessly.

This scene, combined with Noah’s reputation and achievements as a Hero Servant, was extremely incongruous.

Not only did Emiya Kiritsugu’s submachine gun fall to the ground, but even Artoria and Iskandar (Rider) looked stunned.

“Cough, ah, our guests are still here, you know!”

It wasn’t until Medea (Caster) coughed lightly and reminded him that Noah finally noticed his image.

Right now, the relationship between the two sides is closer than allies.

Medea (Caster) couldn’t help but feel a bit embarrassed by Noah’s performance.

Oh, right, I have something else to do now.

Noah was startled, and the ManaLight Sphere he was abusing in his hand dissipated, restoring peace to the cave.

“Ahem, sorry, just pretend you didn’t see anything, it was just an accident.”

    Accident?

How could we pretend we didn’t see that!

Artoria and the others just felt a lump in their throats, unable to voice their complaints.

They didn’t quite understand what to complain about.

Emiya Kiritsugu, who was more experienced, thought more deeply… He suspected Noah had trained in some kind of extreme organization.

Otherwise, how could he utter such a pure, Mob-like standard line?

Noah also felt the scrutiny in everyone’s eyes, but his skin was thick enough to survive even Ea’s attack.

What was he afraid of from these gazes?

“Alright, alright! Kid! You called us over at night, what’s the matter? I don’t think you’re that bored, are you?”

Iskandar (Rider) scratched his head, voicing the thoughts of the others.

If the speaker was Noah, who could have defeated them all and ended the Holy Grail War earlier, no one would dare to accept an invitation to an enemy Master’s territory.

After they realized what was happening, they couldn’t help but break out in a cold sweat at their own irrational behavior.

    “Didn’t you just see it?”

Noah pointed to the Magic Circle behind him, with a nonchalant expression.

“There you go, the Holy Grail you’re all after, it was just those things.”

    The cave fell silent.

Compared to Emiya Kiritsugu’s shock, Iskandar (Rider) and Artoria’s faces were filled with disbelief.

Although the Magic fluctuation had passed in an instant, as Servants, the two of them wouldn’t misinterpret the sensation.

Even if they had never seen what the Holy Grail looked like, in their imagination, wouldn’t a wish-granting machine that could fulfill all human desires be mysterious, sacred, great, and profound?

That dark, chaotic, violent, and evil aura, as if it were the embodiment of all the negative aspects of the world, how could it be the Holy Grail?

    “Impossible! This is impossible!”

    “Hey! boy, don’t joke!”

Before Noah opened his mouth, Irisviel, who was standing behind Emiya Kiritsugu, came back from the throbbing and quickly stood up and spoke.

“No! He’s right! That just now, it should really be connected to the Holy Grail!”

She didn’t care about the gazes of others converging on her, she just stared blankly at the Magic Circle, a sharp pain inexplicably piercing her heart.

Her soul was like being bathed in a strong wind, fragmented memories and emotional fluctuations swept through her mind, but before she could decipher them, they vanished in an instant.

Just being in this cave itself caused Irisviel immense pain.

Sorrow, melancholy, loneliness, unwillingness – a flood of emotions churned and swelled within her.

“The Holy Grail was made by the Einzbern Family’s Alchemy combined with the Third Law. I can feel it, this is the Holy Grail itself!”

Sensing Irisviel’s unstable Spirit state, Emiya Kiritsugu couldn’t help but embrace his wife from behind.

Feeling her husband’s comfort, Irisviel’s Spirit lifted slightly, but she still felt incredibly uncomfortable in her Body.

Especially the Assassin’s soul she had absorbed into her body, was acting up incessantly.

    “Boom….”

Suddenly, with a blast of deep indigo lightning that resembled glacial ice, a thunderous sound erupted, causing even the listeners to feel a searing pain on their skin.

The others were still somewhat confused, but Iskandar (Rider) and Artoria, who had recently been subjected to the full force of this power, instantly paled.

That agonizing pain, as if their souls were about to be obliterated, was deeply etched in both of their memories.

Iskandar (Rider) instinctively drew his greatsword, while Artoria immediately donned her armor, gripping Excalibur (Sword of Promised Victory) tightly.

However, facing the offensive postures of the two, not only did Noah ignore them, even Medea (Caster) stood calmly in place, not even bothering to dodge.

For a moment, it was awkward, incredibly awkward!

Deeply embarrassed, Artoria and Iskandar (Rider) exchanged glances and silently lowered their weapons.

Noah just briefly activated Magic, scaring away the Evil of This World from the Magic Circle, then deactivated it, looking at the white-haired woman with red eyes before him.

Although he had only skimmed the basics of Alchemy, his keen perception allowed him to sense the abnormality on the woman’s body.

The others couldn’t understand Noah’s actions, but Irisviel, feeling the interference on her body completely dispelled, instantly understood.

After giving Emiya Kiritsugu a reassuring look, she gratefully nodded at Noah.

“Thank you, thank you very much!”

However, Irisviel looked at Noah, then at the Magic Circle below, a hint of confusion in her heart.

Was this young man this powerful?

Even noticing the complex emotions in Irisviel’s eyes, Noah didn’t care, waving his hand, signaling for her to get to the point.

After Irisviel quickly explained the origins of the Einzbern Family and the Holy Grail War, Artoria and Iskandar (Rider), who were already looking grim, became even more displeased.

Being summoned as a Servant to fight was one thing, after all, that was just a matter of mutual use between Servant and Master.

But to be used as a tool to break through the barrier between worlds afterward, that was a bit too much.

It was one thing to ride a horse without giving it food, but to kill it for meat afterward?

Although Servants weren’t human, those who created the Holy Grail War were the real dogs!

However, everyone present still had their wits about them, especially Iskandar (Rider), who had only hoped that the Holy Grail would revive him after his death, allowing him to resume his world domination ambitions.

Now that his wish was dashed, he was only slightly disappointed and regretful.

So, compared to Artoria, who had pinned her hopes of saving Camelot on the Holy Grail, and was therefore near despair, Iskandar (Rider) quickly recovered and noticed a crucial point.

“Then, where is this Little Holy Grail you speak of? Is that thing also some kind of Magic Circle?”

Iskandar (Rider) looked around, finding nothing that seemed noteworthy.

Something capable of holding a Servant’s soul couldn’t be ordinary; it had to be something eye-catching.

But looking left and right, he didn’t see anything abnormal from the Emiya couple.

Finally, under Emiya Kiritsugu’s silence, Irisviel pointed to herself.

“I, I am the Little Holy Grail, after the third Holy Grail War, the Einzbern Family, having learned their lesson, chose to create the Little Holy Grail in the form of a homunculus; as the number of dying Servants increases, I will gradually lose my human skills and revert to the form of the Little Holy Grail.”

This answer was beyond everyone’s expectations.

Compared to Medea (Caster)’s curious gaze and Iskandar (Rider)’s silence, Artoria’s expression could be described as angry.

    “Heresy!!”

Artoria, who was already feeling anxious and irritated, was now like a powder keg that had been ignited.

    Homunculus!

    Again, a homunculus!

How is it that no matter the era or country, there are always these scoundrels!

Although they have different structures, people like Irisviel, created as tools for a purpose, always remind Artoria of that crazy woman, Morgan!

That sister of hers, who, after ascending to the throne, constantly gave her trouble!

Although Gawain, Gareth, and Agravain were excellent knights, there was also that brat, Mordred!

“Lesson? What lesson are you talking about?”

Before Irisviel could respond, Noah frowned and looked down at the ground.

He felt that the lesson Irisviel mentioned was related to the thing hidden in the Magic Circle at his feet.

But wasn’t it because the Einzbern Family cheated by summoning an irregular Heroic Spirit during the third Holy Grail War?

What does this homunculus Holy Grail have to do with it?

“It seems I only knew half of the story, but after arriving here, I finally understood…”

Irisviel pointed to the Magic Circle below, revealing a faint, bitter smile.

“…The Holy Grail has no will of its own and will instinctively grant the wishes of the summoner; during the third Holy Grail War, when the first to be eliminated was Angra Mainyu, who wished to destroy the world, the Holy Grail fulfilled that wish on its own, in a sense, the Holy Grail had become a vessel for destruction.”

At this point, Irisviel suddenly felt the cruelty and impermanence of the world.

The Einzbern Family, not being skilled in combat, chose to cheat.

The first cheat has already tainted the Holy Grail to this extent.

Choosing to create the Little Holy Grail in the form of a homunculus, to put it nicely, was to prevent such a thing from happening again.

But it’s likely that they were also plotting to give the Holy Grail its own will, only to fulfill the desires of the Einzbern Family.

Now, it seems that was just being overly self-assured.

Irisviel’s words left everyone in silence.

Because her words corroborated Noah’s, the fact that the Holy Grail War was a scam, and that it was fundamentally impossible to grant wishes, was laid out before them.

Emiya Kiritsugu’s eyes went blank, and the cigarette he had just lit fell to the ground.

“If I were to make a wish to the Holy Grail, for world peace, what would happen?”

Irisviel gave her husband a complex, slightly pitiful smile, and remained silent.

“Probably, it would kill everyone worldwide, and that would bring peace, wouldn’t it? Ahahah~”

As Medea (Caster)’s laughter, which embodied the essence of a Witch, echoed through the cave, everyone felt a chill run down their spines.

“Enough, stop laughing like an old hag, it’s annoying.”

After interrupting Medea (Caster), Noah ignored her resentful gaze and clapped his hands to refocus the attention of the others, whose minds had started to wander.

“Now that the facts are out, there’s no need to continue the Holy Grail War; does anyone have a problem with that?”

    Silence, silence, and more silence.

“What you all want to do next is none of my concern; I’ve already had my fun… or rather, I’m planning to get rid of these impurities before leaving. By the way, can someone contact that Goldie (Gilgamesh) and tell him to behave?”

Including Noah, everyone’s gaze turned to Emiya Kiritsugu.

He furrowed his brow, revealing a hint of a bitter smile, and raised the hand that had lost its Command Spell.

“He’s no longer my Servant; he chose to cooperate with Tohsaka Tokiomi’s disciple, Kotomine Kirei.”

At first, Noah didn’t think much of it, but then he recalled the wound on Tohsaka Tokiomi’s back and subconsciously furrowed his brow.

He had rarely lost battles in his life, and the few times he did, it was because he was stabbed in the back.

“Kotomine Kirei? What kind of person is he?”

Emiya Kiritsugu’s expression turned solemn as he looked at Irisviel, his brow furrowed in concern.

The only couple in the venue who had interacted with Kotomine Kirei seemed to share the same sentiment.

“Honestly, I think that individual is incredibly dangerous! I even feel that if he knew the Holy Grail was corrupted, he’d be more excited than ever about destroying the world!”
