Chapter 16 Loki, the God of Thunder
Noah looked at Riveria with a sidelong glance. He felt this Absolute was a reliable ally.
Kind and reasonable, he didn’t show his sharp edges even in critical moments, always fighting for his allies’ interests.
If I had such a good ally before, I wouldn’t have to work so hard.
If that ‘Hero’ Finn really was as legendary a leader as they say, then Noah could just abandon his brain and kill with joy.
“I think you might have heard my name too. Noah Cipher, I’m about to pay Loki Familia a visit. Chief Deity, are you here? If so, feel free to bring the way.”
Noah glanced at the crowd beside him. The house had already gathered quite a few people—commoners and Adventurers alike.
He didn’t want to reveal that he hadn’t yet received Falna’s guidance here.
It makes sense, really. If an ‘Ordinary Person’ managed to defeat a ‘Level 5 Slaughter Emperor,’ the news would cause quite a stir.
Noah just wanted to kill and fight, not be treated like a monkey.
“Huh? Okay, then.”
Riveria looked slightly surprised at Noah’s quick agreement to visit. After all, he had been so rejecting last time.
But this also saved him the trouble of speaking his mind. She was happy to see it too.
Before leaving, Noah noticed that the girls from Asteria Familia were maintaining order and helping injured people. He looked at them a few extra times.
Meanwhile, in the crowd, a masked golden-haired Elf suddenly lifted her head to meet his gaze.
Their blue eyes met across the distance, as if they had said something, but it felt like nothing was actually exchanged.
After Noah turned and walked away, a black-haired short-haired Human girl approached the golden-haired Elf.
“Lyrha? What’s wrong?”
“…I just feel like… meeting someone who caught my interest.”
Why is that?
Why do I always feel that individual’s gaze had a touch of nostalgia and regret in it?
Noah turned around, walking toward the northern part of the city with Riveria and Ais.
The three were silent on their way.
Noah was thinking about how to convince Loki Familia’s Deity to let him join them.
In the front of the Riveria, Noah is often subtly observed by her with a sidelong glance. She tries to read some useful information from his expression.
For example, why did he suddenly come to visit Loki Familia? What’s his purpose? Where does he come from?
If it wasn’t because of the previous incident where Noah helped Ais in Ais and recently clashed with the dark faction, Riveria would not bring an unknown person into the Loki Familia headquarters.
Of course, more importantly, no one can lie to the gods.
As long as Loki asks a single question: “Will you harm Loki Familia?” Any spy will be caught in the act.
Therefore, there’s no need to worry that he might be an enemy.
Hmm, if he can even deceive the gods, then perhaps he isn’t someone we should handle on our own.
Ais is very confused.
After walking this stretch of road, she barely manages to clear her head.
Although her mind is still cluttered with chaotic thoughts, facing someone who saved her life, it’s only natural to express gratitude first.
It might be better not to say anything at all than to speak out of place.
But now, the timing seems a bit off for saying something.
Why did I suddenly want to thank him just now?
It’s frustrating. Why did I feel like I wanted to say ‘thank you’ just now?
There’s a kind of frustration that comes from being so upset during an argument that you don’t even realize what you’re saying until you’re half-asleep, only to think of the perfect comeback too late and almost kick the bed in the process.
Ais can’t help but slightly pout her lips, revealing a cute expression that makes one want to pull out a bag of colorful candies.
The three of them, each lost in their own thoughts, quickly reach their destination—a tall tower visible from the street despite being surrounded by buildings.
A group of towering high-rise buildings, taller and more imposing than the surrounding structures, are stacked with several towers. The central tower flies a flag with “JOKER” written on it in bold letters.
“Riveria-sama! Ais-san!”
At the entrance, seven or eight fully armed Adventurers stand guard, respectfully greeting Vice Captain Riveria and the promising Familia companion. They then look at the only unfamiliar person among the three.
“That was tough. Did anything unusual happen today?”
“Other than the attack at the Charity Feast a short time ago and some disturbances nearby, there haven’t been any other unusual incidents. Then, the team leader and Gareth Landrock seem to have been summoned by the Guild for a meeting.”
“Oh, I see. Stay on your guard.”
Riveria hasn’t introduced Noah to anyone, so the guards didn’t ask any questions and turned back inside.
“Open the door!!”
In the brief moment before the door opened, Noah felt some curious eyes staring at him.
He knew they were guards without looking.
Walking through the door, the path wasn’t very wide, but it was lined with flowerpots and surrounded by red brick courtyards. The estate occupied most of the wall space inside.
Because the ground level was narrow, they decided to expand upwards instead, making the upper part significantly larger.
Even as he approached, Noah felt a sense of imbalance, as if it might tilt downward.
Just as the three of them entered the estate, a figure stumbled down the stairs from above. With Noah still caught in thought, she nearly missed catching Ais, who was beside him.
“Ais-chan! Are you okay? I heard those bugs attacked Charity Feast again, it’s enough to scare anyone!!”
She was a red-haired girl with short hair reminiscent of Sunset, fair-faced and with elf-like eyes that were narrowed into crescents.
Despite her flat chest, which barely showed any features of an elf, her striking appearance still gave away her identity… a deity.
Of course, if she hadn’t acted like a fool or been cuddling the golden-haired loli while screeching, she might have looked more like a deity.
Now, Noah was reconsidering his desire to join Loki Familia.
Because deities had almost unilateral control over Familia members, their tendencies, personalities, likes and dislikes determined the direction and limits of a Familia’s development.
Every new person who came to Elaria was told that choosing a Chief Deity was the most important thing before becoming an Adventurer.
So, a goddess like this one in front of him… is she reliable?
Riveria didn’t know what Noah was thinking, but with her extensive experience, she could sense the complexity in his eyes.
While it wasn’t the first time he’d felt embarrassed in front of others, Riveria still felt heat on her face.
