Chapter 17 Ancient Hero
“Scream”
The strongest Mage in the city tightened his delicate little hand, placing the AlfFist of Justice on his own Chief God’s head.
“There are others here too! Be serious!”
As if there was a sharp ‘klank’ sound, Loki let out a ‘scream’, immediately knocked over by the hammer with his head hitting the ground, sprawling on all fours.
On top of that red-haired girl’s head, there seemed to be a faint blue smoke lingering.
Finally breaking free from her bonds, Ais took one step and hid herself behind… Noah!
She vigorously brushed the upright hair on her head while stuffing her soft cheeks into a ball, using her big, wet golden eyes to fiercely glower at Loki lying on the ground, sticking out her pink lips so much they could probably hold a bottle.
That kind of feeling was like a kitten that hadn’t grown out yet, still angry and fluffing up its fur.
After spending this past year together, Ais had long since gotten used to Loki’s weird behavior and wasn’t affected by it anymore.
This time, she had been worried for a while before Loki finally got her.
Seeing this, Noah and Riveria both froze in place, even forgetting that the goddess was still on the ground.
Noah: “Why did you hide behind me?”
Riveria: “Why did you hide behind him??”
The two subconsciously looked at each other, saying nothing.
For some reason, Riveria’s Emerald Eyes seemed a bit ominous.
Noah somehow felt like he had done something wrong and was hesitant to look directly at the female Elf.
Time passed in this strange silence, with Loki lying on the cold floor and the trio in the hallway not having agreed to help lift up their Familia Head God.
Until Loki let out a low moan and slowly sat up, looking around with a dazed expression.
“Hm? What happened? Riveria? When did you two come back? Cursing? And what about this kid?”
The female Elf finally realized and coughed awkwardly to cover her embarrassment.
“Uh, Loki, that’s the guy I mentioned a few days ago who saved Ais in the Dungeon.”
But Loki overheard this, hesitatedly looking at Noah…… although Noah Fundamental couldn’t see her eyes.
“You’re not kidding? Riveria, that kid doesn’t have Falna’s Breath!”
His words fell, and all were silent.
In the silence of Air, Ais stopped her motion of pulling her hair back.
She looked at Loki and then at Noah, with a face full of disbelief.
Even Riveria’s pupils narrowed, her lips trembling.
She first seemed to recognize him anew as she scrutinized Noah from above, then stared solemnly at Loki.
“Hey! Loki! Are you sure? Don’t play dumb!”
Her voice trembled during the speech.
No, it’s her mind that was trembling.
A person who hadn’t received Falna could still save Ais from being suspected of a Potential Ability at level 3 or higher in Strengthened Wyvern.
And Loki didn’t know that Noah had just fought a lv5 Slaughter Emperor and was even slightly superior…
In an instant, Riveria involuntarily recalled her fear from when she was young, watching Hera and Zeus Familia dominate the world……
That year at the Behemoth and Leviathan conference, the big guys argued over tactics, and I, a small girl compared to Elven Race ages, stood there with a wooden staff (‘Magna Aivis’), unable to speak.
Loki, who had been somewhat confused before, now fully Awakened, realizing what he was saying meant.
Leaping from her spot, Loki directly approached Noah. Her eyes, which had been narrowed into a slit, finally opened, with brown irises filled with overwhelming dignity as she slowly looked at him.
“…It won’t be wrong, this kid’s Breath is terrifying, but he doesn’t have any other Chief God’s Falna…… It isn’t that Falna was sealed or unsealed, it’s just that the Fundamental didn’t accept it!”
Even though gods were sealed in Mortal World and their powers were bound, they still retained many abilities based on their own authority.
For example, Freya, the goddess of beauty, could use a certain level of ‘charm’ even without releasing her divine power. More importantly, Possessing eyes that can pierce through the soul’s essence allow her to easily recruit outstanding Adventurers ahead of most Familia members.
Another example is Hephaistos, the god of smithing, who, with his ‘Divine Realm’ crafting technology, could make top-tier weapons even without personally intervening—just a slight touch from him would allow his subordinate blacksmiths to dominate the production of such weapons.
While Loki lacks powerful abilities, he can easily discern whether an Adventurer has Falna or other Chief God Breaths.
However, it’s because of this that Loki’s formerly carefree and unjust eyes have become heavy.
“So, kid, did I say something wrong? You come to Familia for what reason? Is there anything you can talk about now?”
Always being watched by three people and remaining silent, Noah quietly let out a breath.
He had always been quiet because he knew his words wouldn’t matter.
It’s like when you’re talking to someone and suddenly realize there’s danger, telling them not to look back, but they have a 90% chance of turning around anyway.
Some things sound sincere in others’ words, but if you don’t verify them yourself, you won’t believe them either.
This was also the case for Noah.
“GodLoki, what you said is correct.”
Under Riveria and Ais’s uncertain or hopeful gaze, the silver-haired boy nodded.
“I’ve never accepted God’s Falna before. Maybe I should just join your Familia this time.”
As Riveria and Ais looked on with unreadable expressions, Loki seemed at ease, only running his hand through his hair.
“Logically speaking, someone as outstanding as you… even making us wonder if an Ancient Hero descendant is joining Familia, we should be happy. But I just want to ask one thing: why?”
Heroes refer to the countless ordinary humans who fought against Monster Waves before the gods descended.
Even without divine gifts like Falna, they still defeated countless Monsters and broke through the blood-filled Dark World, reclaiming land and pushing Monsters back into Dungeons. They created deeds that even the gods praised.
Despite the help of gods and spirits, their determination and courage to overcome despair are beyond limits.
You can say that Ancient Heroes themselves embody ‘miracles.’
Hearing Loki compare himself to an Ancient Hero, Noah felt a bit conflicted.
Casting those thoughts aside, Noah looked at Loki without changing his expression.
“I come from outside Europe, and I can’t say anything else. The only thing I can guarantee is that I have no ill intentions toward Europe or the Loki Familia. Joining the Loki Familia was a sincere decision.”
