Chapter 36 The Thunderous Echoes resonated…
“A scent?”
Hesitant, Noah sniffed his own arm but detected no unusual odor.
No sweat smell, but Noah had always been like this, even drenched in sweat, the scent was faint.
Still, he couldn’t catch the ‘fragrance’ Ais mentioned.
Puzzled, Noah glanced towards Riveria.
As Noah’s eyes met hers, Riveria knew what he was about to ask.
But recalling her earlier actions, a strong sense of shame washed over the Elf Princess, fearing Ais might remember the morning’s events.
If it all came out, she’d have to transform from an elegant Elf into a crude Dwarf, digging a hole to hide in right then and there.
So, she tossed a Healing Potion to Noah, not giving him a chance to speak, and quickly dragged Ais away.
“Come on, weren’t you going to press forward? Let’s pick up the pace.”
Instinctively grabbing the potion, Noah watched the crystal blue liquid swirl in the bottle, his mind filling with the bitter taste of the Healing Potion.
The question he had wanted to ask was suddenly forgotten.
After a moment’s hesitation, Noah quietly slipped the potion into his waist pouch.
Training, after all, was about pushing the limits.
As they wandered through the 11th floor shrouded in mist, other Adventurers finally began to appear alongside Noah and his companions.
“…What the heck, where are all the monsters today?”
“I promised Miss Asta from the Wind Moon Pavilion a Divine Gift!”
“Is the Dungeon planning something big? Maybe we should just go back?”
Winding through the fog, Noah and the others traversed a long cavern slope, eventually reaching the mid-layer’s ‘Grotto Labyrinth’.
The walls, the floor underfoot, the ceiling above──everything was composed of gray stone, the air thick with damp moisture.
Although the path didn’t twist, the long corridor stretched ahead with no end in sight, vertical shafts and pits appearing in corners.
Adventurers often hesitated here, falling prey to monsters’ divide-and-conquer tactics, leading to casualties.
This was the 13th floor, infamously known as the ‘Front Line of Death’.
Besides strength, body type, number, and respawn speed, the key difference between middle-floor and upper-floor monsters was their shift from close-quarters assault to incorporating long-range attacks.
For Adventurers who aren’t used to the mid-level intensity, whether it’s a Hellhound that spews Flame or a Unicorn Rabbit that throws stone axes, they’re all formidable foes that can inflict serious damage with the slightest carelessness.
Even Ais, who hadn’t been here before, couldn’t help but widen her eyes and observe her surroundings.
Under the faint glow of luminescent mushrooms, the trio of Noah accelerated forward, traversing the straight rocky path.
The Unicorn Rabbits that appeared from time to time were all taken down by Noah with a single sword strike.
Finally, the 3 of them arrived at a massive cavernous room.
The high ceiling, supported by Stone Pillars, was covered in grotesquely shaped rocks.
Behind the numerous Stone Pillars, layers of luminescent mushrooms and darkness stretched out, extending to a point beyond the reach of the eye.
Although they would be within the line of sight of many monsters, fighting in the spacious cavern would provide more room to maneuver and allow for coordination with allies.
As soon as they arrived at the cavern, before Noah could even take in his surroundings, numerous ominous red glows emerged from the darkness, like Blood Color.
The bumpy, pitch-black skin seemed to be from Purgatory, with a body type comparable to a small calf, and eyes that were a chaotic, evil crimson.
There were about 20 of them, in addition to several times that number of Unicorn Rabbits.
Even though these rabbits were pure white and looked adorable, when over 60 of them, armed with stone axes that shone with a sharp Light, glared at the same time, it was still enough to make one’s hair stand on end.
“Hmph, is this the Dungeon’s friendly greeting for me?”
After seeing Riveria protect Ais, Noah drew his sword and charged forward with caution, but not too much.
At a distance of several dozen meters, which would be an absolute safe zone in the upper levels, the black Hellhounds lifted their heads and spewed out large clusters of high-density Flame from their mouths, filled with fangs, with a BOOM!
As a strong Monster with a Potential Ability rating of lv2, the Flame spewed by the Hellhound could easily melt ordinary armor.
Most Adventurers would choose to buy fire-resistant cloth with high resistance to Flame before attempting to conquer the mid-levels.
However, the 50 million Falle armor that Noah wore wasn’t a waste of money, as it naturally came with Flame resistance as one of its standard features.
Of course, Noah didn’t need to forcibly withstand the Hellhounds.
He swung his sword, creating an Air Wave, and the massive wind pressure pushed the Flame back, transforming it into an even more intense and violent Mana storm, with a WHOOSH!
When the Flame Offensive Arts struck, it was clearly beyond the Hellhounds’ expectations, and they instantly let out a chorus of wails as they scattered in all directions.
The Unicorn Rabbits’ situation was even more dire.
These monsters had a battle prowess similar to that of the upper-floor monsters, and their strength was based on their agility and group combat abilities, which earned them a rating of level 2.
Now, as the flames engulfed them, the cute rabbits couldn’t even throw their stone axes, and they were reduced to ashes, screaming in agony, their bodies turning into charred rabbit heads, with a haunting BOOM!
Seizing the opportunity as the monsters’ formation was disrupted, Noah charged in with his sword, unleashing a deadly dance of death.
Although the middle-floor monsters’ bodies were harder and more resilient than those of the upper-floor monsters, they were still sliced through like butter by Noah’s sword, and blood splattered everywhere with a SPLAT!
Occasionally, a monster would curl up, covering itself with hard scales, and then roll towards Noah like a cannonball, a heavily armored mouse-like creature.
But even with the Scale Armor, which was considered one of the strongest defenses in the middle to upper floors, it was no match for the impending doom.
After a fierce battle, Noah, who had gradually adapted to the strength of the middle-floor monsters, stopped in his tracks.
He exchanged a glance with Riveria, gripped his sword hilt tightly, took a deep breath, and began to chant the words of his spell.
“Thunderous Roar, THUNDER!”
The next instant, the world around them transformed in an instant, with a deafening CRASH!
The ear-shattering sound of the lightning bolt, like a mana storm, swept through, instantly eliminating the monsters’ roars, the sound of shattering rocks, and the explosions of flames, dominating the entire audible range with a loud ZAP!
A deep blue glow enveloped Noah’s body.
When looked at directly, the light seemed even more intense and dazzling than the noon sun.
But when the gaze was averted, the surroundings suddenly became pitch black, as if all the light had been extinguished, with an eerie silence.
This contradictory entity, which defied the laws of light, was a dark blue arc that pulsed with an intense, deep blue light.
Unlike the Raiden that Riveria had seen before, this Dark Blue Arc did not explode violently, nor did it make a loud noise, but instead emitted a soft HUM.
Its gentle, flowing motion even had a translucent, crystalline beauty, like a still pond on a summer day.
However, the elf’s keen intuition, sensitive to mana, sounded a warning, like a tolling bell, a loud CLANG!
Even from a distance of several hundred meters, Ais and Riveria felt an intense, suffocating pressure, as if a Colossal Stone was crushing their chests.
Without anyone needing to warn them, they could sense that those dazzling, crystalline Electric Arcs were extremely perilous, and the air was electric with an ominous, eerie crackle – ZZZT!
