Chapter 38 Keep moving forward!
Realizing his fierce battle had ended with a meager payout of 250 (Falle), Noah felt a pang in his heart, taking nearly ten seconds to come to his senses.
As he slowly turned around, Noah made an effort to adjust his expression.
Upon meeting Riveria’s clear and serious, yet playfully mocking Emerald Eyes once more, Noah had regained his composure.
He raised his armored right hand, using his index finger and thumb to measure a small distance.
“Just a tiny bit of a whoopsie, it’s expected with the first time, there’s always various issues──too fast, too forceful, too eager. Next time, I’ll just need to be more patient, a bit lighter…”
Riveria’s expression darkened, her gaze piercing into Noah.
“Idiot! What are you saying in front of Ais?!”
Her voice stern, she lifted her staff as if she were about to strike Noah’s head if he didn’t provide an explanation.
The sudden scolding left Noah rooted to the spot, more bewildered than when he realized he’d destroyed the dropped tool.
What… did I do?
His hands, which were in motion, froze, unsure of what to do next.
Sharing a confused glance with Ais, Noah ventured to speak.
“I… I was talking about magic. Because it was my first time using magic, I didn’t control my strength well. I was too fast with the offensive arts, and I ended up destroying the magic stone and the tool. But I can feel there’s a more delicate way to use this magic. With more practice, I won’t make the same mistake next time…”
Watching Noah, careful and innocent as a child being coerced by a villain, Riveria came to her senses.
Right, Noah isn’t Loki; he wouldn’t deliberately say such lines to tease an elf girl.
Damn it, all because of that bastard Loki!
Always spouting dirty old man lines while harassing the female members of the familia!
It’s got me on edge!
Lowering her staff awkwardly, Riveria felt her cheeks heat up as Noah and Ais gave her puzzled looks.
She couldn’t help but raise her hand to sweep the strands of hair from her cheek to behind her ear, using the motion to hide her odd expression.
There was no way she could explain.
Otherwise, she’d face the ‘Unexpectedly, you seem to know so much, Riveria, that’s surprisingly cute’ kind of gaze that would make her want to dig out a room with her toes.
Sigh, I’ve become the kind of despicable adult I used to hate.
A slight sense of self-loathing rippled through Riveria as she gently pushed it aside.
“Ahem, since you are aware of your shortcomings, hurry up and go train.”
With a wave of her arm, the long robe swayed, and Riveria returned to the composed and dignified expression expected of the city’s top Arcanist.
“Next time, remember not to cause too much destruction to the Dungeon environment, or it might trigger some unusual activity… How’s the mana consumption?”
Although Noah was very curious about what had just made Riveria angry, he felt that if he continued to ask, something bad might happen.
“Well, I probably used about one-tenth, but during this conversation, I’ve almost recovered.”
Has she recovered that quickly?
Riveria couldn’t help but glance at the dark cave that had suffered significant destruction, feeling a bit amazed.
Should she mention that Noah’s mana pool is astonishingly high, or that the magic consumption is actually quite low?
The scale of destructive power is already comparable to the first stage of her area-wide annihilation magic, yet it seems to have cost Noah very little.
It’s only his first time using magic, but his total spirit power and mana might already rival her own…
As expected, this guy has the potential to become an Arcanist…
In that case, she must be even more diligent in teaching him.
She can’t let such a promising talent go to waste; otherwise, it would be a pure crime against Arcanists.
“Riveria?”
Even though she seemed to be smiling, Noah felt a chill run down his spine.
“Is it almost noon already?”
After checking the time with her magic stone pocket watch, Riveria took out the Dungeon map.
“In my opinion, rushing to the lower levels on your first Dungeon exploration is quite reckless. If possible, let’s call it a day and explore the remaining areas later, but…”
Looking at the still spirited Noah and the eager Ais beside him, Riveria sighed helplessly.
“…I guess you wouldn’t be too keen on going back like this, would you?”
“The monsters up here won’t help me train; the previous battle was just a warm-up. I want to see where my limits are.”
Gripping the hilt of his sword, Noah gazed into the depths of the cave, as if locking eyes with the more dangerous monsters lurking within
Despite this, Noah hesitated when he saw Ais’s backpack, which was several times larger than she was.
“But, Ais…”
Before he could finish, Ais cut Noah off.
“It’s fine! I can handle it!”
Lifting the massive backpack on her small frame, Ais pressed her lips together, her young face filled with determination.
“And, the deeper parts of the Dungeon… I want to understand!”
But like this, you’re giving me a guilty conscience for child abuse.
Facing Ais’s young face, Noah struggled a bit.
Watching the two lock eyes, Riveria felt a ripple of emotion stir within her.
Long before Noah appeared, Ais had already reached the edge of her next level.
The reason Riveria and Finn hadn’t told her about the ‘great deed’ condition was because they all felt that Ais’s spirit needed more tempering than her body.
Fueled by hatred, the stronger Ais became, the closer she was to death.
They could take care of her life, teach her battle, but they could never truly enter her inner world.
Until, Noah showed up.
Riveria couldn’t quite grasp it, but undoubtedly, Ais had a sense of longing and admiration for Noah.
Though it made the elf princess, who had taken care of the girl for a year, feel a pang of sourness, it also brought relief.
In Ais’s spiritual world, filled with hatred, even a hint of light was enough.
Moreover, now that Ais knew about the great deed condition, could she really restrict her from冒险 forever?
Perhaps, it was time to let go.
‘The young have their own epics to fulfill. We, the elders, can’t walk all their paths for them. It’s enough to stand behind them, offering a hand when they struggle or are lost…’
Recalling the dwarf’s rough but comforting steady voice, Riveria felt a urge to punch him.
Who’s an elder!
I’m still young!
