Chapter 41 Useless Elf and Sharp-Tongued Swordsman
“Dumb Elf! Useless Elf! Stupid Elf! Do you have any use at all? Honestly, even a random passerby could do better than you!”
As she climbed the long, steep slope, the girl in a kimono with long black hair and a breezy demeanor constantly berated her companion with a tone that was the complete opposite of her elegant appearance.
The golden-haired Elf, on the receiving end of her verbal assaults, initially kept her head down, silently enduring.
But seeing Kaguya’s verbal attacks not only continue but escalate, Ryu could no longer hold back.
She raised her eyebrows, her sky-blue eyes shining with a brilliant light that symbolized her strong individual will.
“Kaguya! That’s enough! What do you mean a random passerby could do better than me? Why don’t you say a random passerby could take down the floor boss?!”
Kaguya, taken aback by the counterattack, fell silent, glancing sideways at Ryu, slowly revealing a smile that could make any man daydream.
But it wasn’t a gentle, conciliatory smile; it was more like a dangerous preparation for an Offensive Arts, akin to a Viper’s Flame breath.
“Oh, I’d rather believe a passerby could take down the floor boss than believe you, a useless Elf, could handle things properly. Guess who’s the reason we can’t even rest for a day in Rivira after our expedition, and have to drag ourselves back like this? And we even have to compensate for the precious materials we found in the Deep Floor!”
The kimono-clad beauty from the far eastern countries, Gojou-no Kaguya, was renowned in Orario for her exceptional swordsmanship, earning her the title of Yamato Ryudentou from the gods.
But only those familiar with her knew that Kaguya’s sharp tongue, cutting words, and precise Offensive Arts were just as formidable as her swordsmanship.
Even Ryu, also a level 3 Adventurer, found it hard to withstand just a few of her verbal Offensive Arts.
The previous energy momentum had completely dissipated, and Ryu lowered her head with a stiff expression.
Although her expression was obscured by her mask, one could easily imagine her pouting, her face flushed with embarrassment.
“Who, who made them want to touch my hand…”
“Yes, yes, yes, the noble Elf lady’s hand is indeed precious, but just almost touching it made 5 or 6 Adventurers end up bloodied! We almost went to war with the Rivira Adventurer Group!”
Even though the sky-blue eyes of the golden-haired Elf seemed ready to burst with emotion, Kaguya showed no signs of stopping her verbal offensive.
“My noble Elf lady, I wonder if you could lower yourself to offer a paid handshake business? The assets of Asteria Familia will surpass Hephaestus Familia in no time! That way, we won’t have to work so hard!”
Watching the two main attackers dominate with overwhelming force, the other team members finally couldn’t hold back their support.
“Um, Kaguya, please don’t blame Ryu. It’s all my fault for accidentally falling victim to the poisonous worm’s offensive arts, needing to buy an extremely expensive antidote in Rivira, which led to them taking advantage of us.”
The speaker was an Elf Arcanist holding a magic wand and wearing glasses, with a youthful and delicate face even younger than Ryu’s.
The green short-haired girl in a unisex shirt could easily be mistaken for a beautiful boy at first glance.
The large bandages wrapped around her right arm explained the reason for her pale complexion.
Poisonous worms are among the most dangerous species of monsters that use poison as their offensive arts.
The potent toxins secreted from their mouths or skin can easily penetrate the exceptional resistance of advanced adventurers.
Although the battle ability of a single poisonous worm is quite poor, their massive numbers, often in the hundreds, can terrify any adventurer group.
The more critical issue is that the poison from the worms can only be completely cured with special medicine made from their dropped items.
So far, there have been no reports of any healer’s magic being able to completely remove it; it can only be alleviated.
On their way back from the lower levels, Asteria Familia was attacked by poisonous worms, and the Familia Arcanist, Celty, who had not fully recovered from spirit fatigue, unfortunately fell victim.
In the adventurer town of Rivira on the 18th floor, such antidotes are naturally available, and the prices are predictably exorbitant, leading them to sign high-value IOUs.
Furthermore, when they tried to sell some materials to exchange for a chance to rest for a night at an inn in Rivira, they were besieged and eyed by a swarm of unscrupulous merchants like flies drawn to the scent of blood.
Rivira Town is a black market that even the Guild doesn’t care about, and The Group isn’t afraid to extort members of Loki Familia and Familia of Freya, so why would they be intimidated by Asteria Familia’s grudge.
On the contrary, they’ve often been arrested and punished by Asteria Familia, the city’s law enforcers, so when they get the chance to feel superior, they won’t let it slip away.
When some of the perverts, fueled by their sense of superiority, reached out to touch Lefiya with drooling desire, everything was doomed from the start.
“Enough! This incident isn’t anyone’s fault! Why are you all so eager to attack your own teammates or blame the wrong person?”
The cute, pink short-haired girl, Pallum, spoke up, putting an end to the Familia’s internal strife.
“And, Celty, don’t say who’s wrong, if it weren’t for your and Liana’s Magic, we wouldn’t have completed this expedition mission, your Spirit Fatigue is for everyone’s sake, got it?”
Although Leila looks young, she often gets straight to the point when discussing problems.
For Asteria Familia, whose leader often acts impulsively, Leila often takes on the role of commander.
The team fell silent after Leila’s lecture.
The silence was broken by a bright and cheerful red-haired girl.
She let out a hearty laugh that echoed through the cave, eliminating the eerie and ominous atmosphere of the Dungeon, as if nothing had happened.
“That’s right, Kaguya, you can’t always use harsh words, when will you learn to speak your mind? If you want Lefiya to learn how to get along with people, you should start by speaking up yourself!”
The eastern swordswoman’s face turned red with anger, as if she had been hit by the captain’s Flame Magic.
“Huh? Who cares about this useless Elf?!”
She flipped her silky black hair and quickened her pace, running up the slope.
Lefiya felt that Kaguya’s back seemed a bit disheveled as she watched her, her arch-nemesis since joining the Familia.
However, before she could smile, the captain’s relentless pursuit continued.
“Lefiya, you’re also at fault, don’t say you were just scared, even if they really did grab your hand, there’s no need to overreact like that. You’ve been in Orario for 2 years now, if you keep this up, I worry you’ll end up alone.”
But that’s what makes it more lethal than Kaguya’s words, which are full of Offensive Arts.
Because lies won’t hurt anyone, it’s the truth that’s the sharp blade.
“No way, I don’t need that! I just need to dedicate my life to ‘Justice’ and that’s enough!”
Looking at the blond Elf’s determined oath, Alise sighed and shook her head.
“Dedicating our lives to Justice is our duty, but if you find a man who can touch your heart, don’t hesitate to grab him! A man like that is rarer than a rainbow-colored dragon, and you might not meet another one in your lifetime, so even if you have to use underhanded tactics, make sure to get him!”
No way would I do that!
Not unless my name is spelled backwards!
Just as Ryu was about to retort, a violent tremor shook the entire cave, followed by a deafening roar that was like a tidal wave: BOOM!
“What’s going on, is there an Adventurer fighting a Goliath?”
“Captain?”
Under the gaze of her team members, Alise pondered for a few seconds before making a decision.
“Let’s go take a look, just in case it’s another Adventurer party that’s in trouble with a Goliath.”
However, when the Asteria Familia members arrived at the exit, they were left stunned and speechless by the scene before their eyes.
