Chapter 48 “You’re playing me, Finn!”

Inside the Divine Chamber, the 4 members of the one-god Familia stared at Noah’s retreating figure as he yawned and left, taking a long time to recover.

The first to break the silence was Loki.

She opened one eye and scanned the data on the paper with her brown eyes, a complex smile that could be described as both astonishment and excitement.

“That Noah guy, he doesn’t care at all. I feel like he could level up in a month or so… We’ve got a monster in Familia now, ! I can finally experience the pleasures of those 2 old geezers, Zeus and Hera!” AHAHHAHA!

As her smile distorted and grew wild, Loki’s face blurred completely, like a maggot writhing frantically on a bed.

To prevent being kicked out by her flailing legs, the 3 giants of Loki Familia and Ais quietly walked out of the Divine Chamber and closed the door.

The one who left next was Ais, who had been bowing her head and saying nothing.

    “…I’m going back now.”

Riveria watched her petite figure gradually fade away in the light of the Magic Stone, her Emerald Eyes overflowing with worry and sorrow.

“What’s wrong, you were just about to teach Ais a lesson and now you’re worried? Elves are just so not straightforward, don’t you think, Finn?”

Gres’ comment was met with a smile from Finn that was impossible to read as either agreement or disagreement.

If Gres angered Riveria, at worst he would get a beating from Magna Aivis.

But if he angered Riveria himself, no one would help him with his workload.

The Guild had recently issued a mandatory expedition mission, and Finn was already swamped with work, so he couldn’t afford to upset Riveria.

Besides, Finn saw more and understood more than just the rough Dwarf.

He could discern Riveria’s current worry, which was different from before.

After Ais’ figure disappeared down the corridor, Finn lowered his voice and spoke.

“Riveria, Noah’s growth speed might be a little beyond expectations, but it’s still within an acceptable range, right? Why are you making that face?”

Riveria gave Gres a disdainful glance, a slight sneer curling her lip

“Acceptable? Do you think Noah’s Growth is all about today?”

No matter how many conflicts there have been, the two of them are confident about Riveria’s character, knowing that she doesn’t feel irresistible or sensational.

So, not only Finn frowned, but the smile on Gres’s face also dissipated.

    “Hmm? What does it mean?”

With a mysterious pride and satisfaction from being the first to know about Mastery, Riveria slightly lifted her pure white chin.

Although it quickly faded, a slight curve had indeed appeared at the corners of her lips.

“Today, Noah defeated the floor master of the 17th level, Goliath!”

Her clear voice was like a cold wind sweeping through, causing the air in the corridor to condense into silence.

For a moment, Finn thought he was just overworked and hallucinating.

But after seeing Gres’ frozen expression, baring his big white teeth beside him, he discarded that last thread of illusion.

His mouth opened, then closed, swallowing his words back down.

After repeating this several times, Finn finally spoke with a dry throat.

“Alright, Riveria, I guess I can understand your concern… Are you worried that Ais won’t be able to catch up?”

Even though her worries had been guessed, Riveria didn’t feel any relief.

In this world, if there’s anything more despairing than sheer hopelessness, it’s probably the despair that comes after a glimmer of hope.

Riveria hoped that Noah could draw Ais in, even if it was just admiration and pursuit, just as long as she stepped out of her hatred for the world.

But what if, after all her efforts, she felt despair over the distance between herself and Noah?

For most people, being overtaken by one step stirs a desire to chase, but being left so far behind that the other’s back is no longer in sight leads to resignation and anticipation.

But Ais wouldn’t give up; she would chase the limit until she collapsed… This was completely different from Riveria’s plan.

Sigh, who would’ve thought that one day, I’d be troubled by a junior’s rapid growth and ambition?

Although Finn was also a bit worried at first, after rubbing his right thumb and finding nothing unusual, he stopped thinking about it.

After all, with Riveria here, it seemed it wasn’t his place to worry.

“This matter, I’ll leave it to you, Riveria. What I can think about now is… since Noah can already take on Goliath alone, he should be able to join the next expedition, right? With such a powerful vanguard, the pressure on the expedition team will be much less. Of course, it might be better if he levels up before joining the expedition.”

Just as he finished speaking his thoughts, Finn saw Riveria’s expression change repeatedly, until she was even holding her head.

    “Riveria?”

“…Why did you bring up the issue of Noah’s level-up with me?”

Even the wise Finn now showed a confused expression.

    “Huh?”

On my way back, I was thinking, Goliath doesn’t seem to be enough for him to level up, and the dual-headed dragon on the two7th floor is also uncertain… If he wants to start a great adventure as a floor master, even if Noah can find many enemies later, how will he challenge them?

Now I can still protect him, but in the future, if I’m no longer able to keep up, won’t he have to take risks on his own?

Looking at the elf beauty with a worried face, Finn and Gres exchanged a glance, and after their mouths twitched several times, they couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

“You’re really good at finding trouble for yourself, aren’t you? Who worries about this kind of thing?”

“It’s just that you’re always worrying about this and that, worrying that Ais won’t catch up, worrying that Noah will run too far, and worrying that the kid won’t grow up, and then worrying that the kid will grow up and leave you behind – what’s the difference? You’re not a mother, are you?”

As soon as the words were spoken, Finn’s right thumb felt a sharp pain, making him jump and instantly wake up.

“…So it’s that funny, huh, Gres?”

When the shadow enveloped him, Gres’s crazy smile, with his large teeth bared, finally froze.

Looking at the frosty-faced, condescending Elf Arcanist, even Gres, who had a heart of stone and used his large shield and heavy equipment to confront strong enemies, couldn’t help but tremble.

“Honestly, after watching Noah’s adventures all day, I’ve been itching for a fight too! Gres, let me see how much you’ve improved lately!”

    BAM!

    I’m going to die!

“Uh, does that mean I should put on my equipment first?”

    You’re using Magna Aivis, and I’m empty-handed – doesn’t that seem a bit unfair?

    But…no way!

Riveria’s icy smile made Gres fall into despair.

Finn, quickly use your brain that can easily turn black and white upside down and save me!!

But when Gres looked to the side, he saw no one, and his large eyes almost fell out of their sockets.

Turning his head, he saw the blond Pallum, who had sneaked to the edge of the corridor, stop and turn around, smiling innocently and waving at them.

“Uh, I remembered I have a lot of work to do…see you later!!”

Sorry, Gres, someone has to stay behind to give Riveria an outlet, and besides, you’re tough and resilient, but I’m not, so please…Finn’s gaze conveyed this meaning.

Looking at Finn, who had vanished into thin air, Gres stretched out his helpless hands.

    “Finn! You’re abandoning me!!”
