Chapter 53 Skill: This Heart, This Mind
The sun rose, and Twilight Manor was once again filled with the hustle and bustle of breakfast.
If there was anything out of the ordinary, it was that Loki seemed to be suffering from a hangover and hadn’t gotten out of bed.
After breakfast, Finn announced that Loki Familia would be going on an expedition in 7 days.
Amidst the excitement, Finn assigned missions to each of the members, from veterans like Noah to newcomers like Raul.
An expedition was a major undertaking for an exploration-based Familia like theirs, requiring a lot of preparation.
Setting aside the massive amount of supplies they needed, including backup weapons, tents, food, protective gear, and medicine, not to mention the Magic Sword, which would drain their funds, the most crucial thing was gathering intel.
First, they needed to share information with the Guild.
As a vital force in the city, Loki Familia’s absence would leave a gap in the city’s strength, so they needed to negotiate with the Guild to ensure their defense was covered.
If Loki Familia encountered any unexpected situations in the Dungeon, the Guild would need to send a rescue team promptly.
Next, they needed to update their Dungeon intel, including checking for any unusual conditions along their planned route, potential conflicts with other factions’ schedules, and whether any floor bosses would spawn mid-expedition.
Finally, they needed to notify other Familias and accept various requests.
After Finn finished assigning missions and dismissed the Familia, Noah realized he hadn’t received a mission.
BOOM!
Once the other members had left the dining hall, Noah got up and approached the 3 leaders, who were still discussing something.
As he walked, Noah furrowed his brow, searching the living room, but he couldn’t find a certain blonde girl anywhere.
Ais, where did you go?
As he approached the leaders, Noah was about to speak, but the 3 of them seemed to have finished their discussion and were parting ways.
Riveria turned to him and asked, “Noah, do you have any plans for today?”
Noah noticed that the Elf Princess’s refined face had a hint of fatigue, like she was facing a mountain of documents and work.
Riveria, who usually maintained a perfect demeanor, was now leaning against the table, supporting her cheek with one hand.
Noah was familiar with this expression and knew that people who looked like this were often in a terrible mood, and it might only take a spark, like Kagutsuchi, to set them off.
What was the reason?
Why did the teacher need a reason to scold a student?
Wasn’t it enough that they had entered the room with their left foot?
He couldn’t help but choose his words carefully, slowing his voice in the process.
“Hm, I’m planning to head over to Airmid’s place in the morning, and then deal with the Magic Stones and dropped Tools. As for the afternoon, I haven’t decided yet.”
The potions crafted by the Dian Sect Familia are the most effective in the city; it’s only natural for any Adventurer to say they’re going to Dia White Hospital to buy their brews.
Yet, Noah mentioned going to Airmid’s, not the Dian Sect Familia’s…
For some reason, Riveria felt a nagging concern about this subtle distinction.
Stopping the motion of rubbing her forehead, Riveria’s gaze pierced through her cascading green hair to observe the silver-haired少年的cheeks.
“You’re going to see that little girl from the Dian Cecht family, is there something up? Did you get hurt fighting a Goliath yesterday? I remember, you didn’t down many potions yesterday, did you?”
“No,” Noah shook his head directly.
“It’s just that when I bought medicine the day before yesterday, Airmid said that if I came back from the Dungeon and got checked by her every time, she’d sell to me… something about a healer’s integrity, not letting a patient be cured by someone else.”
In an instant, Riveria’s gaze sharpened.
On one hand, using the medicine to make the naive Noah commit to this promise, on the other hand, secretly passing information to me to keep an eye on Noah?
Playing both sides, are we!?
Although Riveria couldn’t fathom why Airmid would act this way, nor did she think it would harm Noah, it just bothered her.
“Alright, alright, that little girl from the Dian Cecht family, I didn’t expect such cunning from someone so young.”
Sensing an inexplicable chill spreading through the air, Noah shivered involuntarily and glanced around, but saw no signs of danger.
Riveria lifted her long-booted right leg and gently kicked Noah to draw his attention back.
“Don’t go today. I’ll talk to the girl from the Dian Cecht family. Your mission for the next few days is to raise your Ability Value as quickly as possible, prepare for the expedition…”
“Expedition?”
Hearing the word, thoughts of Dian Cecht and Airmid vanished from Noah’s mind, his eyes lighting up with excitement.
“Yes, I’ve discussed it with Finn and the others. During the expedition, you’ll take the position of Familia vanguard. Also, we might have a chance to encounter that twin-headed dragon wandering between the two5th and 27th floors, maybe you’ll achieve greatness…”
Lost in thought, Riveria noticed Noah’s collar was a bit disheveled and instinctively reached out to straighten it.
“I’m not following you anymore, be careful on your own, got it?”
A gentle force and a faint warmth from her chest, along with the subtle, enchanting scent from Riveria, stirred ripples in Noah’s heart.
“Riveria, have you been overworked lately? Should I help you out?”
Touching Noah’s chest and feeling the muscle beneath his clothes, Riveria immediately realized her action was a bit inappropriate.
But hearing that the battle-crazed Noah actually had the heart to care for her, she couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow, a touch of gratification showing in her eyes.
How reassuring, much more so than Ais.
She smiled faintly at Noah, the fatigue on her face vanishing as she rose from her chair.
“Don’t worry, it’s just some trivial Familia matters. It’s just that the thought of having to haggle over minor interests with others wears me out.”
As Riveria spoke, Noah understood that her weariness stemmed from the need to negotiate various commissions with different Familias.
Even the Loki Familia finds itself hard-pressed when preparing the vast supplies needed for an expedition.
Moreover, the profits from an expedition don’t always cover the expenses.
In fact, most of the time, there are minor losses, which is why a single expedition of ten to 15 days requires 2 to 3 months to accumulate funds.
Under such circumstances, taking on various commissions to earn rewards and return favors to cooperating Familias becomes a necessary choice.
Fortunately, as one of the few powerful Familias capable of retrieving valuable resources from the Deep Floor, the merchants wouldn’t dare to push them around like they do with smaller Familias or try to lowball Loki Familia.
Of course, they just don’t dare to take too obvious an advantage.
To secure enough benefits, one still has to negotiate individually.
That task falls to Riveria.
“You should focus on raising your Ability Value to make the expedition smoother. If that Skill of yours remains effective, we might be able to turn the tables on our constant losses.”
The Skill Riveria mentioned was the ‘luck correction’ aspect of the [Hymn of Spring].
Just how lucky Noah was, it wasn’t apparent before, but yesterday on the way back, Riveria, loaded with heaps of Magic Stones and drops, finally caught on.
“You, your drop rate is a bit higher than others, isn’t it?”
For one reason or another, Noah was kicked out of the dining room by Riveria, ordered to hurry up and get to the Dungeon.
“Oh, and take Ais with you. Let her be the support, to keep her from causing trouble.”
Riveria’s reminder snapped Noah out of it, and he realized, “Wait, where’s Ais?”
Meanwhile, in the Divine Chamber of the Twilight Manor’s central tower.
Loki, who had been rudely awakened by Ais’s 2-fisted wake-up call from a dream of Uranos serving her drinks, Hera washing her feet, and Freya giving her a back massage, stared at the data on the paper in her hand, falling into a deep silence.
Ais Wallenstein.

The only problem was what came next…
