    Chapter 63 Ambush

    “Valetta? The Slaughter Emperor?!”

Upon hearing the infamous name that could silence a crying child in Orario, Ryu immediately cast aside all other thoughts, donned her mask, and stood beside Noah with her sword at the ready.

For a moment, it seemed as though the monsters had sensed danger and retreated, and the forest fell silent.

Then, accompanied by the sound of ‘THUD THUD THUD’ footsteps, a flash of crimson emerged from the trees, its very presence unsettling.

It was a short-haired elf female, clad in a tattered coat with fur trim, wielding a blood-red greatsword.

Strictly speaking, she was a beauty, but the malice emanating from her was as chilling as a black flame.

    “No…ah…!!”

The moment she appeared, she let out a deafening roar, her voice filled with chaos and distortion, entirely unbecoming of an elf.

“I’ve been dying to kill you, you pretentious brat! Today, I’ll absolutely gut you and snap your neck!”

Facing Valetta, who was frothing at the mouth with a cruel grin, Noah merely glanced at her black greatsword with disinterest and began scanning their surroundings.

Sensing the implication in Noah’s gaze, which seemed to say “I’m not interested in you, so hurry up and state your business,” Valetta’s smile twisted in distortion.

We had a fierce battle last time, and you even pierced my body, giving me wounds I couldn’t forget, but now you’re treating me like a stranger?!

You’re not only more despicable than Finn, but you’re also more ruthless!

Oh, it’s because of that elf girl, isn’t it?

Today, I’ll give you a memory you’ll never forget!

However, no matter how much she seethed and cursed in her heart, she couldn’t muster a real attack, so Noah’s attention remained fixed on the surrounding forest.

Dozens, if not hundreds, of figures emerged from the dense forest, replacing the monsters.

Clad in uniform white robes, like those of a priest’s followers, they openly declared their allegiance to the Evilus Faction.

This made Noah want to quip, “How come the villains are so well-dressed? It makes us, the heroes, look like a ragtag bunch!”

Apart from that, what caught Noah’s attention was the weapons wielded by the followers.

Some were swords with vibrant colors, yet all of them exuded a strong sense of danger, while others were as black as congealed blood, their silence as still as withered wood.

Remembering the lessons learned with Riveria, combined with Noah’s ‘intuition’, he quickly identified the types of weapons.

    Magic Sword, and Curse weapons.

The Magic Sword is manageable, but the real issue lies with those Curse weapons.

Adventurers have a chance to gain ‘Development Abilities’ when leveling up.

These are enhancements that can amplify professional traits beyond the 5 basic Abilities.

There are many Development Abilities, but the most well-known and rare is the astonishing ‘Mystery’… because it can grant Tools, potions, and weapons various magical Abilities.

For instance, the Scepters used by Arcanists to boost Magic power, or the various magical tools before them.

Curse is an Ability that lacks the overwhelming power of Magic, yet is far more dangerous and bizarre.

It can cause warriors to turn their blades against their comrades in a frenzied Curse.

It can reduce a powerful Arcanist to an Ordinary Person through a sealing Curse.

It can create wounds that cannot heal, causing Blood to drain away in an incurable Curse.

Additionally, there are other Curses like Mad Enhancement, Weakness, and Fatigue.

An Adventurer’s ‘abnormal resistance’ is of no use against this.

Unless the caster is defeated or the Curse is dispelled through special means, they will be tormented to death by the Curse.

The cursed tools created by sorcerers, while generally inferior to regular Magic like the Magic Sword, are still quite dangerous and rare among special armaments.

If there were only one or 2, it would be understandable, but having dozens of similar cursed tools before them suggests a specialized mass production method.

This indicates that there is an Adventurer within the Evilus Faction possessing the ‘Mystery’ Development Ability.

Unlike Noah, who noticed other details, Ryu’s eyes were filled with rage.

“You! These vile fiends! How dare you lay hands on children!”

Following Ryu’s gaze, Noah saw several unconscious children lying on the ground near Valetta, behind the members of the Evilus Faction.

Several Evilus Faction members held sharp blades, hovering ominously over the children.

Though they did not speak, it felt as if they were silently inviting and threatening Noah and Ryu.

It wasn’t aimed at me, but at Ruru… In an instant, Noah made his judgment.

Valetta shouldn’t think that he’d surrender because of a few kids, but for Ruru, it was a fatal weakness.

Including these cursed tools, the Magic Sword was the same.

Can’t even hurt Noah, and can’t hurt Ruru either?

If it were just Noah, he’d directly take down the enemy first, since no one could touch him anyway.

But with Ruru around, it’s not like they could run away easily.

Forget it, can’t run, then let’s just wipe out the enemy!

Tch, you’re really something, Valetta – I’ve decided to make you into Valetta-chan!

Changing his previous lackluster attitude, Noah gave Valetta a gaze filled with intent to kill and admiration.

Sensing the cold, intense gaze that had reappeared, Valetta felt a sense of satisfaction, like a child who had done their chores and earned their father’s praise – his abdomen even felt a burning sensation…

    No way!

    What the heck!

“Noah! And you, elf girl! You don’t want these kids to get hurt in front of you, do you? Get down here, now!”

Having experienced numerous hostage rescue battles, Ruru knew that she couldn’t put down her weapons in front of the enemy and pin her hopes on them.

Once she gave in, not only would she lose her life, but she’d also completely lose the chance to save the civilians.

Normally, Ruru would use her extreme speed to take down the enemy before they could react and rescue the hostages.

But she had never faced a group of over a hundred Evilus Faction members alone.

Not to mention that the Slaughter Emperor, a genuine Level 5 adventurer, was among them!

If it were usual, she’d immediately retreat when facing such an enemy.

After all, in such a huge power gap, fundamental strategies were useless.

But I won’t give up on those kids!

    So, what to do?

Just as Ruru was getting anxious and sweating, her hand was suddenly grasped by someone.

Up until now, Ruru’s hand had only been touched by 3 individuals, so this feeling was extremely unfamiliar.

Moreover, the sense of security that came with having her hand completely enveloped, with strength and warmth transmitted through it, was overwhelming.

She turned her head and met Noah’s gaze.

“Go do what you want to do”… although there was no verbal communication, and Noah didn’t give any special glance, Ruru felt like someone was whispering this in her ear.

    “Yeah!”

No more words were needed, as Ryo felt a deeper connection with the young man before him, one that surpassed the intimacy of their one-sided confession just a moment ago.

It was as if their souls were resonating with each other in this instant, like the synchronization of a Hero’s aura with their sword, a phenomenon known as “Resonance” in the world of adventurers, much like the ones in Orario.

The next moment, a swift gust of wind swept by as the young man drew his sword, ready to clash – ZING!
