Chapter 9 Lia
“That, Big Brother, are you hungry?”
A girl with a plush teddy bear in her arms, around seven or eight years old, has short twin-tails hair on top of her head.
Despite her clothes being somewhat outdated, they are very clean and show how much she is loved by her parents.
Due to her temperament, she seems a bit smaller than the blonde girl Noah rescued a few days ago.
Her eyes, which seem slightly out of place compared to Noah’s expressionless gaze, make the girl involuntarily shrink her shoulders.
Like a rabbit peeking out of a burrow, her big, round eyes are filled with tension.
Without thinking about anything else, the girl bites her lips and bravely hands Noah the candy bar she’s holding.
“If Big Brother is hungry, this is for you.”
This is a milk chocolate bar wrapped in wax paper. Even without opening the wrapper, Noah can smell a faint scent of vanilla and fruitiness.
While Euleria’s world has relatively abundant materials due to the existence of divine Familia Strength knowledge and Magic Stone Craftsmanship, it doesn’t reach the point where children could get sick from eating such candy bars.
The girl in front of her doesn’t look like she comes from a wealthy family just by her clothes alone.
Not to mention how often she glances at the candy bar Noah is holding, swallowing hard and looking very reluctant.
Shouldn’t that be from the Charity Feast?
If it’s like that, why would she give it to herself?
A flicker of curiosity arises in Noah’s mind. He lowers his body and makes eye contact with the girl.
“You should want to eat it too, right? Why are you giving it to me?”
“Because Lia thinks that Big Brother looks very hungry, so she believes you’ve encountered some difficulties recently.”
The girl named Lia feels a sense of relief as she realizes Noah isn’t being harsh or dangerous, just indifferent.
“Because I’m in trouble, that’s why you’re helping me. You know, you’re just a kid.”
Noah didn’t have any emotion in his tone; he simply asked his most straightforward question.
The girl, however, seems to feel insulted and immediately sticks out her lip, flushing red.
“But Alise Sister said that no matter if someone is an Adventurer or a commoner, even a beggar has the right to help those in need because Justice belongs to every individual! This doesn’t have anything to do with whether I’m a kid or not!”
The girl’s voice is hurried and slightly louder than usual, drawing the attention of some passersby.
By the time she regains her composure, her face is red, and she quickly uses her small hand to rub her cheeks as she twists her hair.
Noah seemed a bit dazed for a moment, feeling like his throat was dry.
“Who are you talking about, Alise?”
“Huh? Don’t tell me you don’t know?”
The question made Lia’s eyes widen, as if she were seeing a wild man running out of the mountains. She was staring at Noah with an uncertain look.
“She’s Asteria Familia’s head, Alise Lovell! They’re part of Justice Familia, you don’t know that?”
Following Lia’s finger direction, Noah saw a girl dancing among the crowd like a bird.
It was a masked blonde elf with green eyes and a red ponytail, a long-haired girl in a Tranquil Kimono… totaling eleven girls.
They were either fighting, laughing, or busy with various tasks. The lively atmosphere around them was completely different from the people nearby, making Noah easily distinguishable.
The laughter and voices made Noah lose his mind, imagining another scene in front of him…
Golden sunset, long shadows on the mountains, clear river water…
The late wind blew away the oppressive summer heat, landing on his sweaty clothes and cooling his lungs.
Smoke rising from the city in the distance, red dragonflies flying up from the grass beside him, and companions of various colors in front of him…
A scene that doesn’t exist here or anywhere else, unknown to anyone else, only existing in Noah’s memory.
Deep enough that he thought he had forgotten it, but he knew he would never forget…
“…Brother? Big Brother?”
Returning to his senses, Noah felt a slight heat in his eyes. Lia was looking at him with curiosity and a bit of playfulness.
“I know Alise Sister looks good, but don’t get too carried away! If you need to meet them, Lia can introduce you.”
Ignoring the girl’s playful expression, Noah took a deep breath and calmed himself.
Looking at the small girl in front of him with some Imp-like qualities, Noah didn’t smile but his eyes became softer.
“Thank you for the candy. May I ask, what can I do to repay you?”
The topic changed suddenly, and the small girl tilted her head, revealing a very cute but not too bright look.
“Repay? Repay?”
“Of course, if you did Justice, I should give you your reward.”
Lia snapped out of her daze, firmly shaking her head.
“This can’t be?! Alise said Justice isn’t about getting anything back!”
Noah’s expression became intense in an instant.
But he quickly recovered, making Lia, who was right before him, completely oblivious.
He didn’t directly contradict her; instead, he asked another question.
“Do you think there are more strong and wealthy people on this world, or weak and poor ones?”
Despite the abrupt change in topic, Lia gave a direct answer this time.
“Well, of course, there are more weak and poor people.”
“Do you think Justice that gives rewards attracts more people, or Justice without rewards does?”
The girl’s mind completely froze this time. She looked at Noah’s grown face but couldn’t say anything.
“No-reward Justice is just for strong and wealthy people. Rewarding Justice is what weak and poor people… it’s the Justice of most people in this world.”
Noah held out his hand to Lia.
“So, tell me your wish.”
Lia felt like something was wrong, but she couldn’t say anything.
“I… I…”
“It’s fine to be bold; really think about it. What is your biggest wish?”
“Eh? It’s just a candy, I don’t want to be greedy……”
Noah interrupted her with a raised finger, staring deeply into her eyes.
“Little girl, people have different values, so the same Divine Gift given to different people will produce completely different results……”
Noah picked up the candy he had been holding.
“If you give this candy to a beggar who’s about to starve, its meaning is just to let him live one more day. The only reward you’ll get is a thank you, but if you give it to me……”
Lia felt an inexplicable fear and attraction toward the silver-haired boy in front of her.
Despite being looked at evenly, she somehow felt he was looking down on her from above, making her involuntarily want to bow down in submission.
Heartbeat accelerates, Breathing Technique is urgent, Cheeks are hot, Just like standing on a cliff over a thousand meters high, The whole body is trembling all over.
“Although it’s just to make me slightly happy, But the value you can produce is something you cannot imagine… So, tell your wish now…”
A childlike instinct directly leads Lia to feel that her next decision will affect her life forever.
