Chapter 100 The Promise Under the Fireworks

After walking out of the main shrine hall,

Asakura Yuu let out a sigh…

“I got scolded pretty badly… but that old man didn’t choose to settle the score afterwards, and even said he’d publicize this duel as a performance.”

After all, the bonfire for the festival was lit by him.

…But, was it just a coincidence that the rain stopped earlier?

Is it possible that a god is really watching over this place?

Isshiki Iroha was waiting for him at the entrance.

Asakura nodded and said, “I see, that old man’s temper isn’t so bad after all.”

“An hour ago, you suddenly left me to go to an empty place – what were you doing? You just had to stand at the back of the crowd and not move.”

“How would I know? Or should I say, your acting skills are too good, Tachikawa?”

Isshiki Iroha gazed at the azure butterfly perched quietly on her shoulder, feeling guilty and not daring to look at him.

After a few seconds, she let out a ‘hehe’ laugh, jogged over, and wrapped her arm around his, speaking in a sweet voice, “I know I was wrong, but nothing bad happened, right?”

    “My uniform’s still not changed…”

Asakura Yuu replied gruffly, not hiding his displeasure – when he came up with his knife earlier, he didn’t cover his face, and his Soubu High School uniform was exposed for all to see…

Why didn’t he take the time to change clothes today?

Even the wisest person can make mistakes!

The ancient saying ‘honesty is the best policy’ doesn’t deceive me!

Originally, no one at school knew about his middle school achievements.

After all, even if you won a championship in a middle school-level kendo tournament, most people wouldn’t know much about it.

This isn’t an exaggeration – if you ask someone about a student from a certain middle school who won a tournament championship, they’d probably respond…

…with something like, “Who’s that? I have no idea.”

But now, Asakura Yuu’s situation is different.

“Sorry, senior,” Isshiki Iroha said with a smile, changing the subject, “let’s not think about this anymore – the fireworks are about to start.”

“Besides, being famous isn’t a bad thing, right?”

“…Now, I just hope the people who were watching the commotion earlier won’t upload my video online.”

Asakura Yuu said this, but he didn’t think he could escape.

This was a huge event with thousands of people packed into the main hall’s plaza.

Internet gods, have mercy on me, please!

“I think you looked really cool, senior… I couldn’t read your mind at all.”

“You think it’s cool?.. I wasn’t planning to continue practicing kendo, so being famous in this area doesn’t make sense, does it?”

After becoming famous, he might get recognized on the street, which would greatly impact his daily life.

    “Is that all?”

“Of course, it’s not just that… but I won’t tell you the other reasons,” Asakura Yuu chose to maintain an air of mystery.

    “You’re so mean, senpai…”

Just as Isshiki Iroha was about to continue teasing him, the fireworks festival began.

Above the grand bonfire, countless fireworks shot up into the sky, bursting into a final, fleeting brilliance in the dark night sky before falling to the ground as smoke…

    “Senpai,” she called out softly.

    “What’s wrong?”

“I like you,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Asakura Yuu fell silent for a few seconds.

This was not good – being confessed to by a beautiful girl was the worst-case scenario for someone playing the harem route!

Normally, this would be a sign of entering a solo route!

“Not the kind of like between a man and a woman… but the kind between a fan and an idol, you should understand, right?” Isshiki Iroha let go of his arm and instead took his hand, intertwining their fingers: “But when senpai saved me earlier, my heart was racing so much it wouldn’t stop…”

“I used to think that heroines who fall in love after being saved were just stupid… it’s not like you need to fall head over heels in love just because someone saved you once, right?.. but I was wrong, liking someone really is irrational.”

She turned her face to him, looking at him seriously: “I really, really like you, senpai!”

    “Mm-hm.”

    “I’m not joking!”

Iroha placed Asakura Yuu’s hand on her chest, “Can you feel how fast my heart is beating?”

“It’s beating fast,” Asakura Yuu replied, trying to distract himself by looking at the fireworks.

“Senpai, my chest is really soft, right?”

“Yeah… it’s soft. The fireworks are beautiful too.”

Isshiki Iroha giggled at this, “Don’t be shy, as a reward for protecting me, it’s fine even if you touch it a bit.”

Though she said that, Asakura Yuu didn’t dare to touch – it was a matter of boundaries.

Asakura Yuu, who wanted to be the sun, would never surrender to the temptation of her chest!

“You’re cute even when you’re trying to act serious, senpai.”

    Acting serious?

Please, call me a gentleman, thank you!

Also, could you let go of my hand?

My fingers are getting stuck… your chest is even more impressive than I thought, and hiding your large bust is quite sneaky, isn’t it?

Asakura Yuu took a deep breath to calm himself down.

But Isshiki Iroha’s next sentence broke his defenses once again…

“Senpai, I’m not wearing anything under my yukata.”

“…we’re watching fireworks, and you’re giving me a thrilling atmosphere like this.”

Asakura Yuu finally stopped looking at the fireworks and turned to face her instead.

“Finally……finally……I’ve had enough.” Isshiki Iroha drawled, pouting, “Leaving a girl waiting while you watch the fireworks, you should learn to read the atmosphere, senpai!”

    “Sorry.”

“Senpai.” Isshiki Iroha stood on her tiptoes, leaned in close to his ear, and whispered, “Close your eyes, okay?”

“What are you going to do?”

Asakura Yuu did as she said, closing his eyes.

“Nothing much, just something princesses usually do. Let me give it to you too, senpai.”

Isshiki Iroha stood on her tiptoes, wrapped her arms around his neck, and slowly leaned in to kiss him.

    By the bonfire.

The two of them quickly became one, their shadows swaying with the firelight.

    Just a few seconds later.

The girl let go of him, savoring the feeling of their lips touching, and whispered, “Looks like senpai really hasn’t kissed a girl before…”

“Same to you, I suppose?” Asakura Yuu had a feeling when he closed his eyes earlier.

But he didn’t think she’d be so bold.

She actually dared to take the initiative and kiss him…

“If I were super skilled, it would be bad, right? Senpai, you still don’t get it? Girls only kiss people they like.”

Isshiki Iroha said, wrapping her arms around his neck again, her voice sultry as she asked,

“To get better at kissing for next time with other girls, should we practice some more?”

“It’s okay if we’re not skilled, right?”

“There are girls who think…a high school boy with no ex-girlfriends is pretty lame, right?”

“Would they? Being pure is a good quality, regardless of gender.”

“Mmm.” Isshiki Iroha leaned in close again, “Or else senpai’s first kiss would have gone to someone else, right?”

Why do I feel like you’re happier about taking my first kiss than I am?

Asakura Yuu had just thought this when her soft lips covered his again.

    The second kiss.

    Still not very skilled.

It wasn’t until the third kiss that they got a little better.

    “Satisfied?”

“Mmm.” Isshiki Iroha nodded, a faint blush suddenly appearing on her face.

Her face was really thin, and after leaving the sultry atmosphere, she just wanted to find a hole to hide in…

Who was that crazy girl from a few minutes ago?

“You took my first kiss, so you have to take responsibility.”

    “Huh? Senpai’s saying that?”

    “What? A boy’s first kiss isn’t a first kiss?”

“So, are we officially dating now? I don’t mind, but senpai wants a harem, right?” Isshiki Iroha suddenly brought up his dream, or at least, the dream he showed on the surface. She couldn’t know what he really thought deep down.

“That’s right, making all the girls I like happy…”

    “Then…make me happy first, okay?”

Asakura Yuu had thought she would change the subject or make a joke like she usually did, but he didn’t expect that kind of answer.

Seeing his expression, Isshiki Iroha explained:

“If I were happy, I wouldn’t mind joining your harem either. After all, being able to spend my whole life under your care wouldn’t be so bad.”

“Happiness…it’s easy to say, but really hard to achieve.”

Isshiki Iroha tilted her head: “How about I set a goal for you, senior?”

    “Okay.”

“When you get the highest title in swordsmanship, I’ll join, deal?”

    “Really?”

    “Yeah, I can wait forever.”

Among the highest titles, the ‘Sword King’ was the least competitive, and even the youngest swordsman to achieve it was 24 years old…he was hailed as a once-in-a-century genius.

Even if senior was a genius, getting the title would have to wait until after graduation, right?

“You’ve really given me a tough challenge.”

“Taking the first step is important, senior.”

Whether it’s the harem you mentioned

or the bad memories from the past

if you choose to stand still, you won’t grow…

‘The senior I like won’t stand still, I believe in you.’

Isshiki Iroha looked up at the dark sky, and the last firework exploded, illuminating the entire night sky…

    It was dazzlingly beautiful.

You couldn’t look away no matter what.

The more you looked, the more you’d get drawn in, and before you knew it, you’d fall in love.

    Just like you, senior.
