Chapter 109 Yui Prepares for the Offensive
Today, I had a plan to visit Yui’s house and teach her how to make desserts while I was at it.
Asakura Yuu was initially reluctant because he remembered the task she had given him on the first day of school──a peculiar stew that was barely edible… It was beyond the level of what a typical girl would make.
‘It’s so hot.’
The summer ground temperature was exaggerated to the point where mirages could be observed, the air itself seemed twisted.
On a day like this, one should be lounging at home with the air conditioner on, not going to a girl’s house to teach her how to cook.
But it’s already too late to back out of something I agreed to do beforehand.
Dialing the phone.
Asakura Yuu held the phone to his ear, and it was quickly answered.
“Hello, Yuu-chan, are you almost here?”
It seemed a bit noisy on Yui Yuigahama’s end.
Faintly, the voice of another woman could be heard──was it her sister or her mother?
“I just got out of the station, I should be there soon.”
“Mom… what are you doing? No, I’m chatting with a classmate, weren’t you going out today… what? You’re not now, why is that?”
Yui Yuigahama’s voice was interrupted.
Asakura Yuu quickly pieced things together; it seemed likely that he’d be meeting Yui’s mother today.
‘This feels a bit off.’
It would be his first time meeting a girlfriend’s parents.
…That woman from the last meeting was quite unique, giving off Yukinoshita-senpai vibes, could she be her mother?
Asakura Yuu pondered to himself.
No wonder he was suspicious; the two did look somewhat alike, though their demeanor was different.
“Yuu-chan, maybe you should go back today? My mom is home?”
As Yui finished speaking, another mature female voice chimed in: [Are you two up to something strange, Yui~?
Don’t leave mom out…]
‘…If Yui and I were doing something strange, shouldn’t you be the one to avoid it?’
Asakura Yuu was starting to suspect all the women in the Yuigahama household were a bit odd.
“We’re practicing making desserts, mom, don’t cause trouble.”
Yuigahama’s mom’s voice was filled with delight: “Desserts are great, mom will help too!”
She was probably very curious about him, which is why she said that.
“…Yui, I’ll be there soon.”
Asakura Yuu had spent nearly an hour coming over; he didn’t want to just turn back, especially after braving the scorching sun for so long.
The streets were nearly empty, with the working crowd already at their offices and students on summer break mostly holed up at home, leaving only him, the fool, making his way to a classmate’s house.
“Then hurry up, Yuu-chan, I’ll be waiting for you at the door.”
Yui Yuigahama finished speaking and hurriedly hung up the phone, seemingly ready to argue with her mother about something.
…………
The Yuigahama household.
In the living room, Yui Yuigahama rolled her eyes at her mother.
“How can you laugh? What’s so funny?”
“Yui actually brought a boyfriend home, Mom is super surprised!” Mrs. Yuigahama clapped her hands together, teasing, “Should I cook some red bean rice tonight?”
“It’s not something to celebrate,” Yui Yuigahama said irritably.
She had plenty of female friends, just none she’d brought home.
“And… Yuu-chan isn’t my boyfriend.”
“Isn’t he yet?”
“Well…” Yui Yuigahama nodded, then realized she’d fallen into her mother’s trap, flustered as she explained, “I, we’re not at that level, I don’t know how he…”
In the end, she didn’t know how to explain.
Blushing, she looked down, muttering under her mother’s teasing gaze, “Anyway, he’s not my boyfriend!”
‘Friends but not lovers? Ah, what a delicate relationship.’ Mrs. Yuigahama, seeing her daughter’s shy expression, quickly understood their situation.
Should I help them along?
Otherwise, with Yui’s pace, it would take forever.
Dancing around the edge of romance without letting it go further is a dangerous game.
“Do you like him?”
“Nope.”
“Does your heart skip a beat when you see him?”
“…Sometimes.”
“Isn’t that what liking someone is?” Mrs. Yuigahama said with a helpless expression.
“I already said, it’s not!” Yui Yuigahama rolled her eyes at her mother.
“It is!”
“…Uh huh.” Yui Yuigahama twisted her hands together, blushing as she whispered, “I like him, a lot.”
‘What a stubborn child, my daughter is so troublesome.’ Mrs. Yuigahama held her forehead, sighing.
Why be shy about it?
If you like him, confess!
If that doesn’t work, make it happen!
Romance is simple, right?
“How far have you gone? Have you kissed?”
“Not yet… Kissing is something you do after you’re dating, right?”
“Holding hands?”
“…A few times.” Yui Yuigahama felt a bit ashamed at her mother’s sudden interrogation.
She could talk about her crush with friends, but discussing it with an elder was another matter entirely.
How should I put it?
Being with someone of the same age makes it easier for her to let her guard down, compared to being with someone older.
“Hugs?”
“Twice.”
“You remember so clearly, Yui,” Yuigahama’s mom said with a hint of amusement, covering her mouth.
It’s surprising that she even remembers the number of times, her daughter is really cute.
“Mom, that’s annoying.”
Yui Yuigahama picked up the dog plushie beside her and buried her face in it, not daring to look at her mom.
“Yui, many things can be done when the momentum is right, like kissing and stuff,” Yuigahama’s mom shared her experiences: “When the atmosphere is right, all you need to do is stand on your tiptoes, close your eyes, and the boy will take the initiative to kiss you.”
“…Really?” Yui Yuigahama peeked out from the plushie, like a groundhog cautiously checking for danger.
“Yes, Mom won’t lie to you.”
“But what does ‘when the atmosphere is right’ mean?” Yui Yuigahama didn’t quite understand, as she and Asakura Yuu rarely had any intimate moments, and only felt a bit shy when they made physical contact.
After all, they didn’t have much time alone together.
“Mom will tell you a secret, start with eye contact, occasionally focus your gaze on him, the key is to make him notice, and when he gets shy, look away.”
“Huh? Just looking at him, how will that lead to kissing?”
“You don’t have to keep looking, when you feel like it’s about right, sneak up to him, you’re going to make sweets together, right? Get close to him, make physical contact, and hold hands.” Yuigahama’s mom laughed and said: “When you hold hands, if he doesn’t pull away, it means he’s not resistant to you.”
“…It feels kinda like being a clingly girl.” Yui fiddled with the plushie in her arms.
“Then Yui, you can just wait for the person you like to be taken by someone else.”
“Uh…I’ll try, I guess.”
Hopefully, it’ll go smoothly.
