    Chapter 21: The So-Called Gentleman

After the end of April, there was a 7-day Golden Week holiday.

    The temperature gradually rose.

Asakura Yuu woke up early in the morning to water the flowers and checked the list of goods provided by the system.

Today was the first day of May.

    This month’s product list:

Music category: Double Reed Introduction (Basic Skill), price: 5000

Technology category: Combat Power Detector (Rare Item), price: 20000

Learning category: Speed Memory Bread (Normal Item) x10, price: 5000

Living category: Gardening Expertise (Intermediate Skill), price: 10000

Special skill: Animal Avatar (Superpower), price: 70000

    [Current point balance: 94500]

    ‘Speed Memory Bread?’

I have a strong sense of déjà vu.

Can the system really come up with such an item?

Will there be a door to anywhere and a dragonfly in the future?

Asakura Yuu shifted his attention away from the system.

This month, after taking a closer look, the only thing worth buying is the special skill.

The other skills are like chicken ribs, not worth eating but a pity to discard.

The music category’s double reed is similar to last month’s piano, both are entry-level skills.

Based on his judgment of being proficient in cooking, Asakura Yuu thinks this ‘entry-level’ is a bit too humble.

By the way, Asakura Yuu bought the piano skill from last month yesterday, mainly because he had a surplus of points and didn’t need to be frugal.

Unfortunately, there is no piano at home, and he has the skills but no place to practice.

[Currently mastered skills: Cooking Expertise, Hypnosis, Piano Introduction]

[Currently owned items: Speed Recovery Bandages x10]

Asakura Yuu put away the watering can and looked at the small, delicate petals of the plants in front of him.

He stretched out his hand to wipe off the water droplets, and under the morning light, the most eye-catching thing in the backyard was these few purple sunflowers that had been planted for many years.

The blooming period is long, and they can be seen from April to July.

Asakura Yuu likes to sit in the backyard during the rainy season, with the door open, admiring the purple sunflowers in the rain.

This kind of vague beauty is something he cannot resist.

    “Asakura-sama, breakfast is ready.”

    Momo’s voice came from afar.

“I know, I’ll be right there.”

The holiday had already passed for several days.

    Inside the dining room.

“Asakura-sama, can you accompany me to go shopping later?”

“Okay. I’ve been at home for so long, I’m about to grow mold and mushrooms on my head.”

Momo looked at his head, her expression serious.

Do humans on Earth grow mushrooms?

“I was just joking, humans aren’t plants.”

    “But I want to eat Asakura-sama’s mushrooms…”

    Asakura Yuu: “…”

    Is your mushroom serious?

    Morning.

    Near Chiba Station, SOGO Mall.

Two fashionably dressed and eye-catching girls were walking hand in hand, strolling around.

“Yuigahama-san, could you loosen up a bit?”

Yukino Yukinoshita wore an expression of discomfort.

She had hardly ever had any close same-sex friends, so Yui Yuigahama’s sudden closeness was somewhat off-putting to her.

She felt like a kitten being held by the scruff of its neck, all flustered but unable to refuse.

    “Yukino, quick, look, an arcade!!!”

Yui Yuigahama hadn’t heard her; she was already captivated by the arcade in front of her.

Yukino was dragged into hell against her will.

Inside the arcade, it was bustling with couples radiating the aura of a fulfilling social life.

Normally, Yukino Yukinoshita would hardly ever come to a place like this.

They had just walked in and hadn’t even had a chance to exchange their money for arcade tokens when they both stopped in their tracks.

“Isn’t that… Yuu?” Yui Yuigahama pointed at Asakura Yuu, not too far away, dressed in casual attire.

Next to him was a girl with pink short hair, slightly curled at the ends, smiling sweetly as she held his arm.

They were acting intimately, chatting and laughing.

“It’s so rare to run into him here, the odds must be pretty low, right?” Yui Yuigahama mused aloud.

“Not really, considering how small Chiba is. Plus, the area around Chiba Station is a frequent shopping spot for Chiba City residents, so the likelihood of bumping into someone you know here isn’t that low.” Yukino Yukinoshita analyzed out loud, her gaze fixed on Asakura Yuu.

Or, to be more precise, her gaze had fallen upon the claw crane machine in front of Asakura Yuu.

Inside was a panda plush toy she adored.

It was a mascot from Disney named Mr. Pan, famous throughout the island nation, but there were few who were as fanatical about it as Yukino.

“The girl next to Yuu is so pretty, and they’re playing the claw crane game.” Yui Yuigahama’s gaze was fixed on Momo.

Yukino Yukinoshita made a reasonable guess: “A date?”

“Yukino, maybe we should leave? It would be awkward if Yuu noticed us in this situation, and that girl might be his girlfriend.”

    “I don’t think she’s his girlfriend.”

Yukino Yukinoshita said this with complete seriousness.

    Yui Yuigahama was completely bewildered.

She couldn’t understand why Yukino was so certain.

“Yukino, didn’t you say not to make hasty judgments about things we’re not familiar with?”

“Parrot Number Two…” Yukino mumbled under her breath.

The Asakura club members like to imitate me, and I’m Parrot Number One.

    You’re Parrot Number Two, then.

    “Huh? Parrot?”

“Nothing, let’s hurry up and go.” Yukino’s mind was completely on Mr. Pan, and she didn’t even care about Asakura Yuu anymore.

Men can’t compare to pandas in terms of cuteness.

    There’s just no comparison.

    “Oh.”

As Yui Yuigahama accompanied her to the front desk, she glanced back at Asakura Yuu’s direction a few times.

Is she really not his girlfriend?

    …………

“Your attention is being drawn to the entrance, huh. Did you see someone you know?”

Momo watched as he skillfully manipulated the claw machine, picking up the doll.

The claw machines in this store were quite sturdy and wouldn’t wildly shake after catching something, so the store owner had some conscience.

However, Asakura-sama’s method of catching the doll’s tag would likely not be foiled even if the claw machine was loose.

“Yeah, friends from school.” Asakura Yuu added, “We’re from the same club, and this is the center of Chiba Prefecture, so it’s not surprising that we ran into each other.”

His way of speaking was very similar to Yukino’s.

“Oh, Asakura-sama is quite popular, huh.”

“Of course. Just my appearance alone is enough to make girls fall in love with me at first sight, easily. They don’t even have time to appreciate my inner beauty before they’re captivated by my outer appearance.” Asakura Yuu bent down to pick up the doll: “When I reject their confessions, I even need to think about what to say.”

    “What to say?”

“Asakura Yuu is a strange creature who can reject confessions without hurting the girls’ feelings. I need to make them feel like ‘you’re great, but you’re not quite up to my standards’.” Asakura Yuu shrugged, speaking in a resigned tone:

“People always live with rumors and gossip, and even if I don’t put on a mask, they’ll put one on me anyway.”

“Don’t you think it’s unfair that they project their ideals onto me?”

A true gentleman is someone who does what they should do, not what they want to do.

Asakura Yuu was undoubtedly a kind and gentle gentleman.
