    Chapter 22 Parrot’s Mimicry

    By the claw machine.

“Momo, if you were sailing on the sea, and there were man-eating sharks, bloodthirsty piranhas, and even crocodiles from the shallow waters joining in…”

    “Then what?”

“There are 2 people in the sea who need you to rescue them. One is your best friend of the opposite sex, and the other is me. With only one spot available, who would you save?”

    “I’d save you.”

    “Why?”

“Because my best friend of the opposite sex is you.”

“What if the other person was your sister?”

    “I’d still save you.”

    “Why?”

“Because the shark wouldn’t stand a chance against her.”

Your sister sounds pretty terrifying, is she even a real living being?

    Asakura Yuu mentally retorted.

As the two chatted, a conversation came from the side…

“Yui, let’s not go over there, okay?”

“Why not? We ran into acquaintances on holiday and didn’t even greet them. Yuigahama-san, as a socialite, isn’t that a bit unprofessional?”

“Being a socialite isn’t a profession,” Yui Yuigahama grumbled.

A socialite refers to someone skilled at reading the atmosphere, and it’s not a compliment.

“He’s been aware of us for a while now, didn’t you notice?”

Yukino Yukinoshita said with a sigh.

From earlier, she had felt a perverted gaze on her legs.

Apart from Asakura Yuu, she couldn’t think of anyone who would so blatantly display their perversion.

    As they drew closer…

“We haven’t seen each other in days, and the first thing you do is plagiarize my lines. Please pay the copyright fee, thank you.” Yukino Yukinoshita held out her hand, palm up, as if expecting payment.

Asakura Yuu took out his wallet, pulled out a 1000-yen bill, and said, “This is my parrot’s mimicry fee, please accept it. Ugh, I was going to use it to buy drinks for everyone.”

“At the rate you’re copying me, I might be able to become the richest person in the world just from this income.” Yukino pocketed the money.

“I’ll try to do it less. But a man’s charm isn’t determined by his pros and cons, I think this small flaw…”

“Parrot’s mimicry fee…” Yukino held out her hand again.

Asakura Yuu rubbed his eyes, feigning a choked voice: “I’m really broke.”

Despite saying so, he still handed over another 1000-yen bill from his bag.

Yukino took the money and asked, “What drink do you want?”

    “Green tea.”

After asking, Yukino turned to the other 2 and asked, “How about you guys?”

Momo and Yui Yuigahama also said what they wanted to drink.

Soon, they watched as Yukino walked out of the travel game center.

Yui Yuigahama finally reacted, realizing she hadn’t introduced herself to the girl with pink hair: “Hello, I’m Yui Yuigahama, a friend of Asakura-san. The one earlier was Yukino Yukinoshita, also his friend.”

To avoid suspicion, she even gave up her usual greeting.

“Momo Belia Deviluke, hello, you can just call me Momo.”

“A foreigner? I’ve never met one before.”

“Yeah… I’m a distant relative of Asakura-sama, and I just moved to this island country.”

    “I see.”

    Yui Yuigahama felt relieved inside.

A distant relative, so probably not his girlfriend.

“Asakura-sama and Yukinoshita-sama get along really well, huh.”

“Yeah, I think so too.” Yui Yuigahama seemed to suddenly remember something and waved at Asakura: “Hey, little Asakura!”

Asakura was taken aback for a few seconds, his expression subtle: “…you’re greeting me a bit too late, don’t you think?”

“Hehe~” Yui Yuigahama chuckled, “I was shopping with Yukino earlier.”

She pulled out her phone from her pocket, “See, my new phone case, it’s a pair with Yukino’s.”

Asakura examined it, noticing the many cat patterns on it.

How much does Yukinoshita-san love cats, anyway?

    Cat lovers are scary.

    “It’s pretty cute, though.”

“What’s cute?” Yukino Yukinoshita walked over, holding a drink.

After handing out the drinks, she returned the change to Asakura.

“I almost forgot to introduce myself, hello, I’m Yukino Yukinoshita.” Yukinoshita-san smiled, her expression kind.

    “Hello, Yukinoshita-sama.”

Momo had been observing Yukino and thought she would be colder.

From her appearance, Yukino could be described as an ice queen, but her words were like a gentle spring breeze in March.

    This contrast was really cute.

    “What’s your name?”

“Momo Belia Deviluke, I’m Asakura-sama’s distant relative.”

This setup was something they had discussed beforehand.

“…unlike Asakura-san, you’re really cute.” Yukino Yukinoshita never missed an opportunity to tease Asakura.

    “So I’m not cute?”

    Someone was getting defensive.

“Cute?” Yukino Yukinoshita rested her hand on her chin, examining him: “To know others is wisdom, to know oneself is enlightenment.”

“What does this mean?” Momo wasn’t familiar with the classic works of Earth.

“It’s from Lao Tzu’s (Tao Te Ching), she’s saying I’m shameless.”

“Oh, Asakura-sama’s shamelessness…” Momo pinched Asakura Yuu’s face under the surprised gaze of the two girls.

    “It’s not thick at all.”

“I suspect you just wanted to touch my face.” Asakura Yuu brushed her hand away, not wanting to give her the advantage.

    “You actually figured it out.”

“Of course, an excellent person like me is admired by ordinary people, and seeing my handsome face, it’s normal to want to touch it.”

    The implication was clear.

Asakura Yuu handed her a 1000-yen arcade game token.

“This should be enough, although it’s leftover from my own use.”

Yui Yuigahama asked curiously, “Is this a phrase that Yuki has said before?”

Asakura Yuu whispered, “I’ve already changed 4 characters, and yet she still figured it out.”

Yui Yuigahama whispered back, “It’s scary how Yuki remembers every single thing she says.”

Yukino gave them a cold stare, took the arcade game token, and walked to the nearby arcade game machine.

    Two parrots accompanied her.

Was this the set of some animal world, bird specialty program?

Asakura Yuu had noticed since earlier that Yukino’s gaze was fixed on the panda plushie next to her, and when she handed over the arcade game token, she had expected her to go for it.

However, Yukinoshita wasn’t skilled at using machines.

Even the use of vending machines was something Asakura Yuu had taught her when they coincidentally met under the school building.

The outcome was predictable; Yukino Yukinoshita’s failure was inevitable.

Just like the Earth revolving around the Sun.

The Moon revolving around the Earth.

The tides rising and falling, flowers blooming and withering…

“Asakura, your laugh is disgusting, like chrysanthemums in full bloom on an autumn day.”

“…Chrysanthemums are beautiful! Not disgusting at all.” Asakura Yuu walked towards her.

“Chrysanthemums are cute.” Momo, as a plant expert, chimed in.

“Come to think of it, I haven’t seen many chrysanthemums.” Yui Yuigahama placed her right hand on her mouth, tilting her head in thought.

It seemed she really hadn’t seen them many times.

Maybe she saw some in middle school during the autumn arcade.

“Sorry, I used the wrong words. Correction, not blooming chrysanthemums, but wilting chrysanthemums.”

“…I’m a bit sensitive about the word ‘chrysanthemum’. Let’s change the topic.”

Honey, did you know there are 2 meanings for ‘chrysanthemum’?

    1. Chrysanthemum, a plant in the Compositae family.

    2. Chrysanthemum, a popular internet term, refers to…

Yukino shifts the conversation, pointing at the claw machine, “The placement of this plush is too tricky.”

It’s hidden underneath a pile of plushies, impossible to grab!
