Chapter 27 The Sooner This Is Resolved, The Better

Upon arriving at the classroom, Saki Kawasaki was nowhere to be found for the entire morning.

Including the previous 2 days, she had already been absent for 3 days, and typically, the teacher would have called her parents by now, instead of letting her stay home.

However, Shizuka Hiratsuka didn’t want to do that, and neither did Asakura.

From his perspective, there were only 2 ways to deal with a tangled ball of yarn…

1: Find the end and slowly unravel it, until the entire ball is untangled.

2: Take a pair of scissors and cut the yarn in half with a ‘nip’, quick and easy.

Compared to the second method, Asakura preferred the first one, even if it was more complicated.

If you cut the yarn with scissors, could it still be used?

    That wasn’t even worth considering.

…Even if you forced the pieces back together, the knot would still be ugly.

Applying this to human relationships, that would be a heart knot.

Shizuka Hiratsuka cared about her students and didn’t want to hurt Saki Kawasaki’s feelings, so she didn’t call her parents.

Instead, she asked Asakura, as a classmate and class president, to try and resolve the issue.

However, Asakura still had no idea why Saki Kawasaki wasn’t coming to school.

Time passed slowly, and the day’s classes came to a close.

Asakura picked up his backpack, preparing to head to the office.

“Hey, Asakura, you’re not working today, right? There’s a new dessert shop near the station, want to go with me?” Yumiko asked, sticking close to him with an expectant expression.

“Sorry, I have to help Hiratsuka-sensei with something later, so I might not have time. Maybe Hina and the others are free?”

“What’s going on? Is it important?” Yumiko didn’t consider the alternative.

Asakura pointed in Saki Kawasaki’s direction.

“See that empty seat over there? I think this is more important than going to the dessert shop with you.”

Yumiko Miura’s fingers twirled through Golden’s curly hair as she turned her head and whispered, “In that case, I’ll go too!”

    [Yumiko Miura’s affection level -1, points +500]

He actually said that girl was more important than me, how infuriating.

He even said last time that he liked me more than Yukino Yukinoshita!

Asakura could tell she was upset, even without being told, and consoled her, “Don’t be mad about something like this, I’m only visiting Kawasaki-san because Hiratsuka-sensei asked me to.”

The reason he gave for this wasn’t entirely convincing, but the fact was that this matter had been brought up by Shizuka Hiratsuka, and Asakura Yu was equally concerned about it.

Two days ago, he hadn’t interfered because he didn’t have a good reason to, but after Shizuka Hiratsuka gave him the task, the situation became more manageable.

“I’m not mad, stupid…” Yumiko glared at him.

Asakura Yu didn’t give in to her, and directly picked up his bag to leave: “I’ll go alone then? I was thinking of accompanying you to the station to get some desserts.”

Yumiko Miura suddenly became anxious, her proud expression instantly replaced with a pitiful one, looking like she was about to cry: “You’re really not taking me? Don’t tease me.”

“Of course, I’m just kidding, why would I leave you behind?”

    “Waa~ I knew Yu-kun was the best.”

Yumiko wiped away the tears welling up in her eyes, ran back to the desk to grab her bag, and left the classroom with Asakura Yu.

    After the two left.

At the back of the classroom, Yui Yuigahama had listened to their entire conversation, rubbed her eyebrows, and imitated Yukino’s tone, saying: “Is Yu-san PUA-ing Yumiko? It feels so scary!”

Hina Ebina pushed up her glasses and commented: “One person is willing and the other is willing, I’d rather call it a love-hate relationship.”

She managed to keep a straight face for only a few seconds before bursting into a giggle and saying:

“Yu-kun often has a love-hate relationship with Hayato too, hehe~”

“…Hina, can you please take me out of your fantasies?” Hayato joined the conversation with a troubled expression.

    He couldn’t take it anymore.

Hayato Hayama rarely spoke so directly.

“No way~ when Yu-kun and Tobe are together, they become 2 tops, and it doesn’t work out.”

“I see, I don’t understand anything about yuri culture.”

Yui Yuigahama chuckled and continued: “You all, I have something to do, so I’ll be leaving.”

    …………

Asakura Yu arrived at the office.

He slowly walked to Shizuka Hiratsuka’s desk.

Shizuka Hiratsuka sensed his presence and handed him the documents.

“It seems you’re also invested in this matter, not bad, you’ve got the energy of a young person.”

Asakura Yu took the documents, his mouth twitching: “Hiratsuka-sensei, the energy of a young person is being wasted on you.”

“My dear class president, you wouldn’t want someone to be missing from the class, would you?”

“…It feels like you’re holding something over me, like a disgusting superior threatening a housewife.”

After he finished speaking, he noticed Shizuka Hiratsuka clenching her fists, a smile on her face as she stared at him.

A chill ran down his spine.

Asakura Yuu, mimicking the motions of calming a carnivorous animal, met her gaze directly and backed out of the office.

Just as Asakura was about to leave the office, Shizuka Hiratsuka stopped him: “Asakura.”

Asakura Yuu turned back, his voice trembling: “Wh, what is it?”

    Won’t she be mad?

Hiratsuka-sensei, your heart is too small for your broad chest!

Shizuka Hiratsuka, unusually, softened her tone: “…Don’t push yourself too hard. If you can’t solve it, just leave it to me.”

“Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.”

If childish ways can’t solve it, then adult measures…that is, calling the parents for a discussion.

Shizuka Hiratsuka couldn’t just stand by and watch her student wallow.

Even if it meant being hated by the student!

Asakura Yuu, thinking she was going to hit him: “Of course, I’m not stupid, and I’m not as easily provoked as you, Shizuka-chan.”

In short, I’ll handle this properly.

“As long as you know that. If you are discouraged, come talk to me, a teacher’s heart is always open to you.”

“Can I cry on your broad chest then?”

“Of course, cry as much as you need!”

“Ugh, Hiratsuka-sensei, your words just now were so energetic, you’re totally a young person!”

“Asakura, what do you mean? Can’t I be considered young?” Shizuka Hiratsuka’s lips curled into a sly smile: “I’m only 10 years older than you…”

“Uh, more than ten years, right?” Asakura Yuu said, laughing as he walked quickly towards out of the office.

Shizuka Hiratsuka’s roar echoed behind him……

    “You brat! Come back here!!”

    …………

Accompanying Yumiko downstairs, the two arrived at the bicycle parking lot.

“Just now, Hiratsuka-sensei’s voice was really scary~ Who made her angry?” Yumiko Miura observed the surroundings.

Asakura Yu has a bicycle in school, although he is not often riding it.

“I don’t know, no one should bully her, right? That’s too unconscience-free, bullying a good girl who is about to reach 30.”

    After finding the car.

Asakura Yu took out his handkerchief and wiped the dust from the bicycle.

‘This car has been left for too long and it has been dusty. Can you still ride it?’

    He himself is not sure.

It’s been almost 3 months since I stopped here before spring break.

Yumiko stood beside him, watching his earnest focus with a hint of anticipation in her voice: “Should we bike over? But I don’t have one.”

“It’s fine, you can just sit in the back.”

Yumiko Miura glanced at the bicycle’s rear seat.

She feigned modesty, twirling a finger in her curls: “I suppose it’s okay, but if we’re caught with a passenger on the bike, the police will at least pull us over for a scolding. It’s against the traffic safety rules, not very good, right?”

As a girl, she too yearned for the scenes often seen in dramas: the female lead riding on the back, holding onto the male lead’s waist, pressing her face against him… something like that.

But she would be too shy under the strange gazes of others!

“Just don’t get caught then? Being rule-abiding in our youth, doing only the boring things within the rules, how dull would that be? Or do you hate sitting on the same bike as me, Yumiko?”

There’s no police station nearby, and if adults see us, they’ll just gossip behind our backs.

Plus, Inage Station is like the countryside; there are plenty of student couples enjoying their youth after school.

    There aren’t that many rules.

Moreover, rules are dead, people are alive.

There are always more ways than difficulties!

“But I’m wearing a skirt, it’s not very convenient,” Yumiko tugged at the hem of her uniform skirt.

If she sits normally, she might flash someone since the wind is coming from the front.

But sitting sideways isn’t safe either; she might fall over when turning.

“When you sit sideways, you can hold my waist or grab my shoulders.”

    “Alright.”

Yumiko Miura followed him out of the school gates.

They didn’t stop pushing the bike until they reached a nearby small park.

“If there are a lot of people, we’ll get off. That way we won’t get caught,” Asakura Yu said as he mounted the bike.

‘It feels like we’re doing something wrong, my heart won’t stop racing…’

Yumiko sat sideways on the back seat, placing her hand on his waist.

Since they were near the school, there were quite a few students around, and she was quite shy.

Helplessly, Yumiko had to lean her face against his sturdy shoulder, and her soft chest inadvertently pressed against it as well.

Feeling the soft sensation from behind, Asakura Yu stepped on the pedal.

    “Hold on tight.”

With that, the bicycle started moving.

The May wind brushed past Asakura Yu’s face, somewhat hot and dry.

After a few minutes of riding, Yumiko Miura finally relaxed from her tense state, and her hand around Asakura Yu’s waist loosened up, exploring a bit like a blind person feeling an elephant.

    “What is it?”

She asked, still touching, with a tone of surprise:

“Yu-kun, your body is so solid, you even have abs!”

Even though he doesn’t look that muscular.

“I work out every day, so a good physique is just a given, right?

Not just girls, guys have to put in a lot of effort to keep their looks up too, you know? As far as I know, Hayama goes to the gym a lot besides his usual soccer club training.”

“Wow, everyone works hard, whether it’s boys or girls. By the way, why do you want to work out, Yu?”

Asakura Yu thought for a second and replied, “…to be popular? While inner beauty is important, looks definitely give you a boost, that’s for sure.”

“Hmm…can’t argue with that. I put effort into my appearance every day, just to be more popular.”

Asakura Yu wouldn’t have been the first person Yumiko would’ve wanted to be friends with if he wasn’t so handsome.

And conversely, would Asakura Yu be so kind to her if she didn’t look this way?

    Probably?

After all, he’s kind to everyone.

But that’s all he is – kind.
