    Chapter 33 Asakura-san’s Worth

“Let’s talk to your sister after the high school exams are over tomorrow. Of course, if you need my support, I’ll be there with you.”

    “Got it, big bro!”

Taishi Kawasaki’s casual “aniki” made Asakura Yu a bit embarrassed – this cliché scene of a high school big bro taking a little bro under his wing was really cheesy.

Perhaps in the eyes of this middle school student, Asakura Yu stepping in to help him with his sister and family problems was a really hot-blooded thing to do, but the truth was, Asakura Yu was doing it for his own sake.

    Remember his aesthetic?

    That’s right… becoming the sun.

All his actions were aimed at getting closer to that goal – to be someone who can do anything, someone incredibly cool.

Even though Shizuka Hiratsuka always teased him about this topic, Asakura Yu was indeed moving towards this somewhat childish ideal.

    …………

    The mid-term exams were over.

Asakura Yu put down his pen, sat back in his seat, and looked over at Saki Kawasaki, whose expression had relaxed a bit.

Her beautiful silver ponytail swayed slightly as she turned to meet his gaze.

Lately, Saki Kawasaki had noticed that her little brother had started to give up on his arcade games, and aside from studying, he would help out with household chores every day after coming home.

A mix of emotions – happiness and complexity – swirled in her mind, giving her the feeling that her little brother had suddenly grown up.

Saki Kawasaki wasn’t stupid; she had probably guessed the reason behind this change… her little sister, who was still in kindergarten, had told her brother that she was going to give up on going to college.

Saki had struggled to come to terms with this, preparing to find some part-time jobs that might violate school rules, just to save up enough tuition fees.

But her brother’s actions made her think that maybe giving up on college wouldn’t be so bad.

If someone had to make a sacrifice, why not her?

Using her own sacrifice to secure her brother’s future – wasn’t that what a big sister should do?

So Saki Kawasaki had cancelled her interview at a high-end bar that was scheduled for today – a job that paid pretty well.

She had secretly submitted her resume a few days ago, hiding her age, and had received a preliminary approval.

But now, she thought that maybe giving it up would be better.

After all, a graduation certificate from Totogu High would be enough in the local area, and it wasn’t like going to a big city like Tokyo would necessarily be better than Chiba, right?

    “Saki, how was the exam?”

Saki Kawasaki noticed the man in her line of sight walking towards her…

The school’s recognized heartthrob, in this rural place, it’s rare for someone to be called a handsome guy in a school, after all, it’s not a big city, there are a lot of boys who don’t pay attention to their appearance.

Moreover, Asakura Yu isn’t just a simple handsome guy, he’s on the same level as the male stars on TV.

    His popularity was a given.

Just as he said, relying solely on looks alone could captivate people, making them forget to even look into his inner beauty.

A popular character like this suddenly comes to talk to you… No, in the past few days, he’s been coming over every day, intentionally or unintentionally, to chat with Saki Kawasaki.

‘Concern between classmates? Or sympathy for the weak?’

Between these two, Saki Kawasaki was more inclined towards the latter.

There’s no such thing as unconditional love.

When someone suddenly shows affection to a stranger, that feeling is called sympathy, a kind of charity.

For a girl with a strong sense of self-respect, Asakura Yu’s kind of contact made her feel uncomfortable.

But she didn’t have the idea of slapping him in the face, even if it was out of sympathy, she didn’t want to accept it or complain about it.

    Thinking it over.

Saki Kawasaki looked up at him and replied: “I did alright.”

“That’s good, you were absent during the days when the teacher was reviewing the key points of the exam, I was afraid you would fail because of it.” Asakura Yu nodded to himself, then walked towards the popular group, seemingly without wanting to talk to her much.

Saki Kawasaki found him a little weird.

Not taking the matter to heart, she quickly grabbed her bag and left the classroom.

“The midterm exam was so difficult, Asakura, lend me your brain! Please!” Kakeru Tobe hugged Asakura Yu’s shoulder, exaggerating his experience of being bombarded by the exam paper: “The last question in math, the teacher must have wanted to use it to make the gap bigger, it’s not human! I’m going to die!”

“So, did you get it right?”

Asakura Yu knew that, don’t look at Kakeru Tobe often acting like a goofball, but in fact, the students in the popular group weren’t bad at all.

Excluding Yukino’s international class, they were among the top students.

If you wanted to be at the highest level of the school’s social hierarchy, just relying on [Sports Club], [Handsome Guys and Beautiful Girls], [Popular Group] wouldn’t be enough.

Academic achievement in high school is one of the factors that judge a person’s excellence, but having only a good brain can also earn you the nickname “bookworm”. The ecological structure of high school students is indeed complex.

    “Done.” Kakeru Tobe nodded.

“Kakeru is trying to praise himself again.” Yumiko rolled her eyes at Asakura Yu to express her speechless mood.

“I can do it! And whether the exam is hard or not has nothing to do with it. To avoid getting whacked by my dad for failing, I’ve been studying until the middle of the night these past few days! My head hurts, ah~ my head hurts so much!” Kakeru Tobe held his head, his expression as intense as ever.

As the engine of the “currently single” group’s conversation, Kakeru Tobe knew his role well, and he enjoyed this kind of interaction, feeling happy and lighthearted.

“So, to relieve my headache, Asakura, Hayato, when are we going to play baseball again? With Ogata and Yamato, we could go to the school baseball club and challenge them to a match. With Asakura’s lightning-fast pitches, no batter can beat us! Just like during Golden Week at the baseball field, we’ll crush them!”

Kakeru Tobe was outlining his plans for the days after the exams.

After finishing his sentence, he even mimed a batter hitting a ball, swinging his arms a few times in the air.

“Hey! You guys went out during Golden Week? Why didn’t you invite us?” Yumiko suddenly stood up.

She looked at Asakura with disbelief.

Why didn’t she get invited to play?

“Well~ I thought you girls wouldn’t like…Sorry.” Hayato Hayama started to apologize mid-sentence.

As the initiator of the outing, Hayama hadn’t considered the girls at all, a major oversight.

“That’s right, taking girls to play baseball would be so boring.” Kakeru Tobe chimed in.

Hina Ebina giggled, everyone present knew what she was thinking about.

    Probably something related to fangirls.

“Tobe-kun, while I don’t like baseball, as a girl, I think cheering on the guys would be fun too.” Yui Yuigahama tried to express her own opinion instead of agreeing with them.

Yumiko also added, “Yeah, we could come and cheer you on!”

“Haha, we already have enough cheerleaders, but you guys can come too.” Kakeru Tobe smirked.

With Asakura around, you don’t even need to worry about the cheerleaders.

She’s a sight to behold just standing there.

Do you understand the weight of being the top handsome guy at Sobu High?
