Chapter 37 Who Deserves Punishment the Most?
By the riverbank.
Asakura Yu was telling a story to a girl he had only met twice before, and this was their third meeting, about what happened during the Saki Kawasaki incident.
“…I couldn’t think of a better way, if I were Haruno, what would you do?”
“Emotionally, I would help her as a friend, but it’s hard to do it alone, right? So, rationally, I would ask a teacher to discuss it with her parents.” Haruno gazed at his eyes, saying word by word: “Pochi-kun, do you want to be a hero?”
But your approach, aside from being disliked, won’t yield any results.
Saki Kawasaki gave up on the correct approach, acted impulsively once, stopped struggling, and chose to go to college.
Taishi Kawasaki helped his sister, satisfying his youthful passion and impulsiveness.
The Kawasakis earned their children’s respect.
And you?
You’re considered by Saki Kawasaki to be using her brother, although the result was good, the process would be resented, and such a choice isn’t elegant, nor does it match your so-called aesthetics.
Even if it’s not perfect, you still want to do it?
Why?
Rather than perfection…you’re actually more concerned about failure, or should I say, afraid of setbacks?
“Ask a teacher?”
“Yes. Adults should communicate with each other, and since you know about the scholarship, why not ask a teacher who’s more suitable for the situation to help?” Haruno showed Asakura Yu a charming smile.
Then, with a confident tone, she said:
“You think asking an adult for help is your failure, right? I don’t think you couldn’t think of such an obvious thing, you did think of it, but you didn’t do it.”
This is bad, she completely saw through me.
Even Yukinoshita, the president, didn’t notice this point.
Asakura Yu explained why he didn’t seek help: “If birds want to fly, relying on the wind won’t work. What if one day they fall into a place with no wind, what would they do then?”
Maybe they’d die a terrible death?
“But if they go with the wind, flying would be much smoother.”
“I’ll take advantage of a gentle breeze, but a strong wind is a no-go. It would make me lose my purpose, it wouldn’t matter if I existed or not, I wouldn’t need to flap my wings to move, so why would I still want to fly?”
‘To demonstrate his own abilities, so he intentionally excludes adults who could roughly solve the problem?’ Haruno thought to herself.
How interesting!
Too interesting!
Pochi-kun, your heart is more complex than I imagined!
Haruno Yukinoshita thought that the social mask she had worn for so many years was already complex enough, but she didn’t expect to meet a boy like this.
She was trying to understand Asakura Yu’s approach to handling this situation, of course, not necessarily accurately…
First, he contacted Saki Kawasaki under the pretense of delivering information, wanting to learn the details, but was dissuaded by her practical concerns.
Then, after learning about the scholarship from a friend, he came up with 2 solutions: asking a teacher for help or persuading her parents, of course, assuming Saki Kawasaki’s parents were unaware of her true feelings.
Finally, he entrusted Taishi Kawasaki, asking him to perform a passionate hero act onstage.
As the Director, controlling the stage, Asakura Yu wrapped things up beautifully.
Taishi Kawasaki didn’t even feel used, he was sold and still helping to count the money.
Only Saki Kawasaki noticed something strange.
Besides that, the other reason he was able to successfully control this entire play was because the Kawasaki parents truly loved their children.
Without such a prerequisite, even if Taishi Kawasaki performed in a way that was commendable, they wouldn’t have agreed.
‘You became a hero behind the scenes, your heart must be thrilled, right? You manipulated 2 adults and a middle schooler, allowing your peer to smoothly accept the path you offered…’
Haruno Yukinoshita felt this guy was terrible!
But she couldn’t stop her urge to understand this boy.
He was too interesting!
[Haruno’s Affection +10, Points +10000]
“If you could fly without needing wind by holding onto a thorn, what would you do?” Haruno posed another question.
What if there was a perfect method.
That might hurt you?
Would you use it to achieve a world where only you were hurt?
Like the protagonist in a tragic play…
Or would you abandon the thorn?
Give up on that method?
But unexpectedly, Asakura Yu offered a third answer…
“I’d remove the thorns from the thornbush so it wouldn’t hurt me!”
Asakura Yu is reasonable and well-founded:
“The king, who never trusted people’s hearts, first killed his brother-in-law, then his own successor, the prince, and soon after, the princess, the queen, and his wise minister met with a tragic end. Can someone like him really be moved by Mereles’ change of heart?”
No matter what, shouldn’t the king be the one who deserves punishment the most?
Why can he, the mastermind behind the scenes, live so freely and openly?
Haruno Yukinoshita thought to herself: “Mereles went through robbers, heavy rain, and exhausted all his strength to arrive at the execution ground at the last minute. The possibility of the king being moved is low, but it’s not impossible.”
One must learn to believe in miracles, after all, sometimes, when all hope is lost, one can only believe in such intangible and illusory things.
Otherwise, one won’t be able to survive.
“A more likely possibility is that the king has ulterior motives and may subject Mereles to a second trial, until the moment when human hearts can no longer withstand the test.”
“Men with dark hearts are not popular,” Haruno said, giving him a glance with her beautiful eyes.
Asakura Yu saw that she seemed unhappy and quickly changed the subject:
“Speaking of which, I really admire people like you, Haruno-senpai, who live freely, like the wind, it’s great.”
Without caring about others’ opinions, she jumped into the water to pick up her bag without checking if the water was muddy, and ignored the gazes of the people around her…this was quite an impulsive act.
“You’re idealizing me too much, I’m not as free as you think.”
Haruno didn’t know what he had misunderstood, but she had jumped into the water thinking of her sister Yukino’s experience of being bullied in elementary school, and the despair of being powerless to help her.
If she encountered other situations, she would probably use more mature methods, rather than acting impulsively like jumping into the water.
“…Haruno-senpai, please let me idealize you a bit,” Asakura Yu joked: “After all, I only see you a few times a month, so in my mind, you can be a super free and carefree person, okay?”
“Uh…I’ll try,” Haruno said in a compromising tone: “Let’s maintain this relationship of unexpected encounters, with me as the admired and understanding older sister, and you as the outstanding ‘good-for-nothing’ junior, this is the best.”
She wanted to try to let her guard down and find someone to confide in.
“But…I’ve already lost my illusions about you.”
Lost your illusions too early, didn’t you?
I, your sister, still have many charming points, like…my breasts are quite ample, you know.
Just as Haruno was about to retort, Asakura Yu stood up and said:
“However, I think it’s good this way.”
If we get too close, we can’t have frank conversations.
If we’re too far apart, we’ll lose the opportunity to talk.
So, this distance is just right.
“Haruno-senpai, I still have to go to work, so I’ll take my leave first.”
After saying that, he left the riverside as swiftly as the wind, waving his hand in farewell.
