Chapter 66 The Useless Woman, Yukinoshita
The day after the incident.
On the way to school.
Asakura Yuu was checking the messages sent by Yukino Yukinoshita on his phone.
Mr. Cat (Yukino): [Yesterday, the clue led us to that Sae-san, when we went to ask her, she seemed flustered and probably wasn’t lying.
…Although she started the topic, she deleted the post that night, so the fire wasn’t really related to her.]
The morning sun of June was scorching hot, and Asakura Yuu, looking at the glowing screen, found it hard to see even with the brightness turned all the way up.
He typed laboriously…
[Who hates Yui enough to spread rumors about her?]
[I don’t know.] Yukino replied.
[You’re such a useless woman.]
[Don’t want to live anymore?]
[Sorry, the weather’s too hot and the sun’s too bright, I typed the wrong thing. My apologies.]
Asakura Yuu pocketed his phone, ignoring the possible messages Yukino might have sent.
[Yukino Yukinoshita favorability -1, points +500]
Might as well go check out the classroom first.
……………
The atmosphere in Class 2-F this morning was a bit odd.
Recently, a similar situation occurred when 3 male students in the class were rumored about, with many whispering among themselves.
Maybe it’s precisely because the main person hasn’t arrived yet… no, perhaps it’s because the main person isn’t here that these people are daring to discuss topics that shouldn’t be brought to light?
Yumiko Miura sat at her desk, listening to the sounds around her, and put down her phone.
So noisy!
Gossiping behind people’s backs was something she hated the most, and this matter even involved her friend.
Yumiko looked towards the corner where the discussion was most intense, “You guys over there! Can you be a bit quieter? It’s so loud!”
The chatting boys scattered like startled sparrows at her glare, even emitting ‘The queen is so scary’ bird calls.
“Is it that loud? I think it’s fine. Do we need you to control our morning chats? Who do you think you are?” A mocking voice sounded from not far away (Hibiki).
Yumiko Miura turned her head and saw Minami Sagami was picking a fight with her again…
She laughed: “Could it be that you’re the culprit?”
“How could that be?”
Yumiko Miura teased: “I remember now, Yui came to mediate and was even disliked by you. The chances of you doing something like this aren’t small, right?”
“Even if it was me, what can you do about it?” Minami Sagami just wanted to irritate Yumiko at this moment.
She said halfway through, changing the subject: “However, I’m very kind to my friends, so I wouldn’t do something like that.”
On the side, Haruka, one of Minami Sagami’s followers, joined the conversation between the two, of course, to help Minami Sagami: “Miura-san, you have no reason to suspect others, it’s not good, right? And we’re all students in the same class, it’s easy to get caught if we spread rumors.”
What if it gets exposed and it’s not worth it?
Isn’t that why everyone uses anonymous forums?
“I hope it wasn’t you, otherwise…”
Yumiko Miura didn’t bother talking to this person anymore, Minami Sagami was annoying, but the probability of spreading rumors was indeed not high.
Minami Sagami also replied: “Compared to Yuigahama, I dislike you more.”
After a round of arguing, the atmosphere in the class didn’t show any signs of improvement.
It was still the same when Asakura Yuu came in.
However, the discussion voices were much softer, with only a few people talking in a low voice, and the rest of the people quietly changed the subject.
Asakura Yuu, as the core figure in the class, made everyone unwilling to oppose him.
In front of this wolf, no matter how many sheep there were, they could only tie their own hands and feet.
Asakura Yuu saw the situation and didn’t say anything, he had already expected this, the rest of the class might be hard to say, but as the core of the incident, the 2nd year F class, it would be strange if they didn’t discuss it in the morning.
The classroom passed the next half hour in a relatively harmonious atmosphere.
As the first Japanese class was about to start, Yui Yuigahama slowly entered the classroom, she hesitated for a few seconds at the classroom door, then showed her signature silly smile to the familiar people in the class, meaning ‘I overslept’.
Asakura Yuu guessed that she must have made some mental preparations to be able to come to school today.
If it were a more timid girl, she probably wouldn’t have come, right?
“Good morning.”
“Yuu-chan, good morning.”
Yui responded to Asakura Yuu’s greeting with a somewhat forced smile.
She didn’t want to make Asakura Yuu and everyone worry, but the current situation was worse than she had expected!
In the class, many people’s malicious intentions were transmitted to her through their gazes, making Yui feel like her footsteps were getting heavier, as if it was hard to walk.
The few steps, she walked extremely slowly.
As Yui sat down in her seat.
Someone couldn’t bear it anymore……
Kakeru Tobe stood up, looked around, his voice no longer as frivolous as before, and scolded in anger:
“Got something to say, some dark thoughts you want to spew out? Bring it on, I dare you! And you guys over there, stop cowering in the corner like a bunch of wimps! I look down on you! If I said you’d get hit by a car tomorrow, would you believe it?”
His voice was unusually loud.
Yet, he still didn’t mention Yui’s name.
“Tobe, take a seat,” Hayato Hayama advised from the side.
What he was doing would only escalate the conflict, and his impulsive words might make things harder to handle later on.
Kakeru Tobe sat down with a displeased expression.
Then, both boys turned their attention to Asakura Yuu.
If anyone could resolve this situation, it would be him – that’s what they both thought.
Perhaps he had already started thinking of a solution.
“All I got was a phone number, but how do I confront the culprit?” Asakura Yuu’s thoughts had already progressed to how to deal with the offender.
He never liked seeking revenge after the fact.
But this matter wasn’t that simple; if he alerted the culprit, like by making a direct call, the chances of failing were high.
He needed to use a gentle approach to lure the culprit out.
This was going to be tough.
Asakura Yuu glanced around and spotted the love letter in his bag, which he hadn’t had a chance to take home last time.
“A love letter? A confession via text?”
Would such a plan work?
It seemed suspicious, but people who spread rumors on anonymous forums usually weren’t very popular.
The gender, undoubtedly female.
A male starting a rumor about a female would be a pointless and shameful act.
“I can try… but if it’s taken as spam, I’ll have to use the method of exhaustion to find the culprit, which will be a hassle.”
For now, Asakura Yuu couldn’t think of a better method.
“I’ll do it, but there’s another problem to solve.”
He couldn’t use his own phone number, since many people at school had it, and the culprit might get scared after asking around.
So…
Was there someone in school who didn’t have any girls’ contact information, or even hardly any boys’ numbers?
In the corner of the classroom.
Hachiman Hikigaya shivered.
Hmm?
Who’s scheming against me?
