    Chapter 75 Ramune Soda

In the island nation, the relaxed education system, Iku, had its first class starting at around 9 am every day.

School let out early in the afternoon, and most students could attend club activities before 4 pm…

On Monday, after the previous night’s thunderstorm, the weather cleared up.

Asakura Yuu jogged a few kilometers around his neighborhood, using this method to clear his mind and try to shake off the fact that he had slept with Momo the night before.

He wasn’t afraid of anything, but rather regretful.

Despite sleeping with a cute girl, he hadn’t felt anything – not the soft, fluffy strawberry shaved ice, nor her slender, tight legs, or her delicate waist… he hadn’t felt a thing!

    Unacceptable!

As soon as he opened his eyes, the sweet breath from the beautiful girl’s mouth hit his face, and before Asakura Yuu could even process the feeling of his arm being wrapped in Momo’s embrace, she woke up, and then… nothing happened.

All that was left was the girl’s shy expression and a soft, charming voice saying, “Asakura-sama, good morning, I think my sleeping posture wasn’t very good last night.”

One of her shoulder straps had slipped down to her elbow, revealing her pale, rosy shoulder, and her languid posture…

“Calm down, Asakura Yuu, you need to calm down.”

After finishing his jog, Asakura Yuu sat on a bench in Chiba Park, recalling the morning’s events with Koyomi, and told himself…

“Girls aren’t everything in life; you can’t stop pursuing poetry and the road to your dreams just because of women.”

As he sat in contemplation, many passing girls couldn’t help but glance at the young man.

“He’s so handsome.” “What’s he thinking about?” “There’s such a cool guy around here?” “He looks so cute when he’s thinking.” The girls whispered among themselves.

“I’m a bit thirsty,” Asakura Yuu thought to himself.

He stood up from the bench and walked over to a nearby vending machine, which had a winning rate of 0.7%.

Asakura Yuu didn’t mind the almost impossible odds of winning and instead struggled to decide what to drink…

    Coffee?

    Red tea?

    Green tea?

Soon, he discovered a summer-themed drink in the corner of the vending machine.

“Ramune soda, it’s been a while since I last had one.”

He paid and selected the drink, and after a ‘clunk’ sound, Asakura Yuu bent down to retrieve a bottle of ramune soda from the vending machine.

Inside the soda, a marble was lodged in the bottle’s neck.

He sat back down on the bench, opened the package, and used the built-in opener to press down on the bottle cap, causing the marble to drop into the soda with a ‘pssst’ sound, releasing a stream of bubbles.

Asakura Yuu was drinking a Ramune soda.

He glanced at the Casio G-shock watch on his right wrist, a brand that was more than sufficient for a young person like him, especially since he dressed casually all year round, making a mechanical watch seem out of place.

“We can head back now,” Asakura Yuu said, taking another big gulp of his soda.

The carbonation danced in his mouth.

After letting out a satisfied sigh, the boy raised his Ramune bottle towards the sun.

The soda’s carbonated balls emitted a dreamy glow in the sunlight.

    …………

During the morning assembly, Shizuka Hiratsuka, wearing a white lab coat, walked in with a somewhat lackadaisical gait.

Her face showed signs of fatigue, seeming to indicate she had drunk quite a bit the night before.

“You brats, quiet down! Your teacher didn’t get much sleep last night…cough, let’s discuss the issues with the last monthly exam scores.”

Wow, as a teacher, she almost let slip the word “hangover”; I wish she’d show some more professionalism, this drunkard of a teacher!

    Hachiman Hikigaya mentally criticized her.

“Many of you have seen significant drops in your scores; I won’t mention names. Anyway, the rankings for the monthly exams are different from the mid-terms. You can check the results online.”

Among the 6 schools that took the joint exams, only 3 were high schools with a decent reputation – Ohashi High, Nishi High, and Toyogawa High.

However, this time, Kaizuka High surpassed our school.

Didn’t you all study hard after school?

    Where’s your spirit?

If you don’t put in effort during exams, all your studying is for nothing!

“Teacher, exams aren’t shonen manga or a national kendo tournament; we can’t just power through with sheer will…”

Koyomi Araragi chimed in from the back.

He was quickly glared at by Shizuka Hiratsuka and promptly went back to pretending to sleep at his desk.

“And someone in this class, who used to be in the top 3 for language arts, fell to the several tens. Isn’t that embarrassing?”

Hachiman Hikigaya felt as though he’d been stabbed; this was clearly aimed at him.

“Asakura Yuu did well, coming in second in the joint exams for language arts. But to show off in front of the girls, he took the language arts exam; let’s not do that again, okay? One time is enough.”

“Hiratsuka-sensei, the first place in language arts is also from our school; can’t you give the student some consideration and yield the position?” Asakura Yuu protested.

“The person who came in first is Yukino Yukinoshita; what business is it of yours?”

    “…Alright, fine.”

    Minister Yukinoshita, I hate you.

[Saki Kawasaki favorability +1, points +1000]

    SakiSaki, I love you.

“Anyway, everyone please keep up the good work. Put more effort into your studies, and as students of a prestigious high school, you should have more enthusiasm for learning. Don’t let other schools look down on us.”

    That concludes my speech.

There’s still some time before the first class.

The popular kids have gathered together.

“Ah, I did super bad on the last monthly exam, my grades are almost slipping out of the top 300!” Kakeru Tobe covered his head, genuinely troubled this time, no pretence.

Grades are something all students care about; even if the popular kids go out to play, they have to make sure their grades are stable first.

After all, studying is a student’s duty, right?

“I’ve got it worse, 412th… even if there are only 3 academic high schools, that’s still not a good score. Asakura, how do you even study? Lend me your brain for a bit!” The baseball club’s Daigo joined in the conversation.

    “What about Yumiko?”

“Not too bad, 242nd… it’s acceptable, I guess.”

    “What about you, Yui?”

“…Ah, well, um, it’s fine.” Yui Yuigahama stumbled over her words before brushing it off.

“Don’t lie, Yui.” Yumiko rolled her eyes and called her out: “You’ve dropped to around 800, which is basically the bottom.”

Among the 6 academic high schools, there are over 1800 students in total, making that rank truly abysmal.

Even though some unpleasant things happened during the monthly exams, Yui’s status drop is indeed exaggerated.

    “Hehe.”

Yui Yuigahama patted the back of her head and gave a silly laugh.

“With the final exams a month away, it seems like we’ll have to cut back on our outdoor activities. I was planning to go to karaoke this week, but I guess we should make it a study session instead…” Hayato Hayama gave a wry smile; his grades weren’t great this time either, slipping to around 20th place.

His schedule every week is packed.

Besides numerous gatherings at home, he’s also not good at refusing invitations from friends.

    ‘…Study session?’

Yuu Asakura suddenly remembered the memory bread lying in the system’s storage.

Unlike the version from Doraemon, the system’s version grants complete memory retention for an hour after just one piece.

“A study session, huh? That’s good. Where should we hold it?” he asked.

    Hayama replied, “The Miura Library.”

It’s near the school’s train station, which is pretty convenient.
