Chapter 76 Self-absorbed women are indeed a handful
Nothing happened on Monday.
The Service Club didn’t receive any requests, and they spent their club time drinking tea and eating snacks.
If this keeps up, they might as well rename it the Light Music Club or the GJ Club… Yui slept in late again today, so maybe they could even call it the Far East Magic Daytime Napping Society of Summer?
The 3 clubs mentioned above are from (K-ON!), (The Pet Girl of Sakurasou), and (Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions).
Asakura Yuu may be a popular kid, but he’s not completely oblivious to anime – he’s about a quarter of a chuunibyou.
After school.
Walking along the riverbank, feeling the gentle breeze on his face.
Asakura Yuu gazed out at the rippling river, thinking about how he’s planning to quit his part-time job at the two4-hour convenience store.
He mentioned it to his boss a few days ago, but since it’s hard to find someone willing to work late into the night, it’ll probably take a while to find a replacement.
Of course, Asakura Yuu isn’t going to stop working part-time – he’s just planning to switch jobs.
His target is the place where he interned last time, where the female boss offered him a good salary – working just 2 days a week would be equivalent to his current pay, and since he’s used to working late nights anyway, adding an extra hour shouldn’t be a problem.
‘I got a cheat ability, and I still have to work part-time…’
Doesn’t that seem weird?
Asakura Yuu thinks it’s weird too, but he doesn’t want to waste his points on exchanging them for money – it’s too much of a loss!
The affection of the beautiful girls isn’t a limitless, renewable resource like pure energy; it’s more like oil, which will become harder to extract once it’s depleted.
Under these circumstances, working part-time for 6 or 7 hours a week doesn’t seem like a bad deal, considering that he might not even be able to earn the equivalent amount of points in that time.
Maybe if he gets a skill that’s more suitable for making money, like something related to finance or stock trading, Asakura Yuu might finally be able to escape the hardships of part-time work.
“Hey! Stop right there!”
As Asakura Yuu walked along the river, he suddenly heard a rough, delinquent-sounding voice shouting at him to stop, and when he turned around, he saw a guy with yellow hair and earrings standing on the riverbank – but the guy wasn’t yelling at him.
The road he took after school isn’t just used by students from Soubu High School.
West High is nearby.
A chubby, unfortunate-looking student from Soubu High School was stopped by the delinquent, and after a “friendly” conversation, the student from Soubu High handed over a few thousand yen with a smile that looked more like he was about to cry…
Asakura Yuu was too far away to see clearly.
“It seems like the retro style is really popular these days,” Asakura Yuu said to himself.
And indeed.
The scenario of a delinquent extorting money from a good student, which was typical of the Heisei era over a decade ago, is making a comeback.
He slightly shook his head, choosing to ignore it, without any intention of helping.
Asakura Yuu wasn’t exactly a great philanthropist, and this guy might have even badmouthed him on anonymous forums…
Ancient people had discussed such matters long ago……
It was said: “How about repaying kindness with virtue?”
The Master said: “How do you repay kindness? Repay kindness with straightforwardness, and repay virtue with virtue.”
When dealing with unpleasant things, one should face them with an upright attitude!
Reflecting on himself, did he need to intervene in this matter?
Clearly, it wasn’t necessary.
“Tsk, they’re really poor, Soubu High School is full of penniless people.”
Hearing the grumbling from not far behind, Asakura Yuu slowed down his pace.
Soubu High School is full of penniless people?
Who are you looking down on?
I currently have tens of millions of dollars on me, but I just don’t feel like taking it out, so I’m going to get a part-time job…
“Hey, you up front…”
Asakura Yuu came back to his senses, turned around, and said, “What’s up?”
The delinquent boy saw his face and his pupils suddenly constricted, as if he had seen something terrifying, and quickly looked down, “N-no, nothing.”
How did I run into this guy, what bad luck.
In a place as big as Chiba, I can barely earn some pocket money without bumping into this guy?
Asakura Yuu became interested instead, walking up to the delinquent boy with a smile, “I think I’ve seen you before.”
“…How could that be.”
“You graduated from Koushou Junior High? We fought in the junior high school fencing tournament.”
“You, as the Abyssal Dragon, still remember someone like me, a nobody, it’s truly unbelievable.”
The delinquent boy rubbed his hands together and forced a laugh, even subconsciously using polite language.
“Sorry, I’ve already quit fencing, and I’m not in the fencing club, so don’t call me by that ridiculous title anymore.” Asakura Yuu felt like rolling his eyes.
“You’re not practicing fencing anymore?” The delinquent boy’s eyes widened.
Could it be that the rumors from junior high were true?
The guy in front of him had used a custom-made wooden sword to kill someone in a private match, so…
However, this was only whispered among a small group of people, and not many believed it.
“High school students should just focus on studying, all that fighting is no good.”
Asakura Yuu didn’t have the mood to chat with this guy anymore, his experiences in his last year of junior high had indeed left a bad taste.
“You’re right.”
The delinquent boy thought Asakura Yuu was hinting at him to return the money he had stolen earlier, so he quickly nodded and bowed.
Then he went back to the obese boy who had been robbed earlier, patted his shoulder, and pointed at Asakura Yuu, saying: “See that guy? I’m returning your money because of him, so remember this!”
“Yes.”
The boy with glasses nodded weakly and bowed to Asakura Yuu in gratitude.
……
This small episode came to an end.
Asakura Yuu browsed an anonymous forum and found that many students were discussing the recent bullying incidents.
It seemed that the students of Soubu High School were no match for the delinquents in terms of physical strength, and paying them off to avoid a beating was the only solution for Yui.
“This is something students can’t handle.”
Even if a regular teacher intervened, it would be useless, but perhaps Shizuka Hiratsuka could do something about it – she could blend in with the delinquents without looking out of place.
“We meet again.”
A familiar voice, and a familiar person – it was Haruno-san, whom he hadn’t seen in 2 weeks.
“I had a feeling I’d run into you today.”
“Who told you that?”
“The wind?” Haruno replied with a uncertain tone, smiling at him.
The book in her hand had already been replaced with a new one, a hardcover with an English title…
“The Great Gatsby?”
Asakura Yuu’s deepest impression of it was the scene from the movie where the actor who played Gatsby raised his glass.
“Pochi-kun, have you encountered any troubles lately?”
Haruno closed her book and asked him with a mature yet slightly childish face.
“Well, I do have one.”
“What is it?”
“There’s a girl who, after I helped her once, has been pursuing me with extremely intense romantic feelings – it’s like a bullet train that won’t stop…”
“You’re really something, Pochi-kun, comparing a girl to a train.”
Haruno covered her pink, soft lips and let out a giggling sound.
Asakura Yuu spoke urgently: “My Japanese skills are limited, so let’s forget about that for now – Haruno-san, if you were to meet a guy who’s fervently pursuing you…”
“What are you implying?” Haruno tilted her head.
“I’m not implying that I want to confess to you or anything, so don’t get the wrong idea, sis.”
After he said that, Haruno pouted and pinched his cheek: “What was that? Say it again, Pochi-kun?”
The next second.
A cry of frustration echoed along the riverbank, coming from Asakura Yuu…
“Self-absorbed women are so annoying!!”
A nearby crow that was drinking water was startled and flew to a power line, letting out a hoarse cry towards him.
