Chapter 83 Three-Party Conference
Before the final exams.
The school’s last activity was a career path survey, which took the form of a 3-party conference.
With this important matter at hand, Asakura Yuu could only temporarily put aside his junior’s request regarding the stalker, as he had been escorting Isshiki Iroha home recently and hadn’t noticed anything out of the ordinary.
“Take the 3-party conference seriously, go back and discuss it with your parents, and don’t come to school without preparing for our discussion about your future,” Shizuka Hiratsuka said from the podium, wearing a white coat and leaning forward with her hands on the desk.
“Fill out the career path survey first and bring it with you to the conference.”
“Think about whether you want to attend college in or out of the province, consider your current grades, and set a goal that you won’t regret.”
After Shizuka Hiratsuka finished speaking, she indicated that the morning assembly was over.
Then, she beckoned to Asakura Yuu without giving any instructions.
[18]……
Inside the conference room next to the office.
“Asakura, who will you be bringing?”
Shizuka Hiratsuka crossed her legs and was about to light a cigarette, but then seemed to remember something and instead put a nicotine gum in her mouth and chewed on it lightly.
“It doesn’t matter who it is, really…”
No one would come anyway.
“Parents who don’t even attend their child’s 3-party conference after losing contact… sigh,” Shizuka Hiratsuka said with a sigh.
Every family has its own problems, and this kid’s situation was no exception – in fact, it was even more complicated than Saki Kawasaki’s family.
“This was my own decision, and I won’t regret it. On the contrary, I’m grateful and love them for maintaining a fake family image for my sake until I graduated from middle school.”
Shizuka Hiratsuka didn’t know what to say to him.
Asakura Yuu’s family environment was terrible – his parents gave him a substantial allowance every month and left him the house, but they had gone their separate ways and weren’t even in the country.
When they separated, they gave him 2 options: to live with his mother or his father.
Asakura Yuu chose neither, saying he wanted to live alone, and his parents, thinking he was old enough, didn’t stop him and agreed to give him a monthly allowance before going their separate ways.
Why didn’t he try to persuade his parents to get back together?
Probably because he knew it would be pointless.
“What a pity.”
[46]…They had stayed together for 7 years after the divorce, all for the sake of their child’s healthy growth. It wasn’t fair to say that they didn’t love him.
It could only be said that they both loved Asakura Yuu, but not each other.
A child who grows up in this environment, when they discover the truth, will undoubtedly suffer a huge blow – Shizuka Hiratsuka didn’t dare to think about it.
She cared about Asakura Yuu more than any other student, and there were reasons for this.
His refined, porcelain-like exterior was dazzling, but it would inevitably be damaged if it were to be chipped.
Asakura Yuu was the same, constantly setting unattainable goals for himself, using his idealized version of himself as motivation to move forward, and using this behavior to cover up the emptiness and lack within him.
“It seems like you’ll have to figure out your own path,” Shizuka Hiratsuka said, putting down her leg and leaning forward, smiling as she ruffled his hair, as if touching a perfect work of art: “If only I were your sister.”
“No.”
“Huh? You’re rejecting me?”
“If we were siblings, we wouldn’t be able to get married.”
“You’re always flirting with me, and if I don’t have a boyfriend in a few years, I’ll really come find you,” Shizuka Hiratsuka said, now like a gentle older sister, completely devoid of her usual slovenly and uncle-like demeanor.
Because she had discovered a hint of loss hidden in Asakura Yuu’s eyes, something that perhaps only Shizuka Hiratsuka, who had always cared for him, could notice.
This kid really does care, no matter how mature he seems or how much like an adult he acts, but in the end, he’s still just a high school student.
After all, it’s only been a year… his once happy family had instantly fallen apart, and every day he returned to an empty home, eating alone, studying alone to become the top of his class – it was a miracle that he could be so strong while maintaining his sense of self, and Shizuka Hiratsuka thought he was amazing!
He’ll only become more amazing in the future!
She was certain of it.
“I don’t know what path to take,” Asakura Yuu said, thinking in his usual way: “In that case, I’ll just go to the University of Tokyo’s literature department.”
If it were Asakura Yuu, he would definitely choose this path.
“You just casually mention the University of Tokyo – only you could say something like that with such confidence, Soubu High School’s pride and joy,” Shizuka Hiratsuka said, withdrawing her hand and crushing a cigarette candy, then pulling out a cigarette and lighting it.
Once this troublesome kid graduates, she’ll probably have to quit her job too.
The University of Tokyo is a great choice – although Chiba is next to Tokyo, in the eyes of Tokyo people, it’s still just the countryside.
Going to a bigger city, meeting more interesting people, is definitely better than being cooped up in Chiba – that’s what Shizuka Hiratsuka thought.
Even in the school with the highest deviation value in the area, producing a University of Tokyo student is still an impressive feat.
“When are you going to quit smoking? I heard it’s bad for pregnant women and their children.”
“You’re really planning to marry the teacher and have kids?”
“…When you’re all alone in the future, I’ll swoop in and take over.”
Asakura Yuu picked up the career survey form he’d put on the table earlier, first choice, second choice, third choice…
“The teacher’s already unwanted.”
“I’m only 16, soon to be 17… How about you wait for me to graduate?” Asakura Yuu looked up and said with a smile.
If he were to marry Shizuka Hiratsuka, he wouldn’t refuse.
Who could refuse a teacher who’s strong, rich, mature, and charming?
“Alright, stop teasing the teacher, go do your thing.”
A moment later.
Shizuka Hiratsuka watched his back as he silently left, puffing out smoke as she gazed at the sky outside the window.
The sun, huh.
It’s still far away.
…………
After school.
At the shoe lockers, as Asakura Yuu took out his shoes, he found Isshiki Iroha standing beside him.
“Been waiting long?”
“Nope, just got here a few minutes ago.” She said, but covered her mouth to yawn, a cute gesture.
“Want me to help with your bag?”
Asakura Yuu put on his shoes and reached out his hand.
Isshiki Iroha took his hand and passed him her bag.
“There’s no need to be in couple mode in a place like this, right?”
“You don’t like it, Yuu?”
“Call me by my full name, don’t just use my first name, and also, no honorifics.” Asakura Yuu felt the soft touch on his arm, criticizing her way of addressing him.
“It’s weird to use surnames after dating, right?”
“It’s also weird to use first names after dating for 3 days, right?”
“As expected of a high school boy.”
“As expected of a high school girl.”
Isshiki Iroha stopped walking, surprised: “Senpai, our bickering just now felt super couple-y!”
“…We are a couple, right?”
“Oh no, the boyfriend mode Senpai is super charming! I’m gonna fall completely for you!”
Even though I already liked you a lot.
