Chapter 84 Visiting My Underclassman’s Home

    After school.

The two of them were walking through the residential area.

“Have you noticed any stares recently?”

Isshiki Iroha currently lives alone in an apartment with decent security; there’s no need to fear a stalker breaking in.

    “A bit.”

Isshiki Iroha turned her face to look at him.

It was summer, so the sky was darkening later, but after finishing club activities, it wasn’t that early anymore.

The crimson sunset shone on the straight utility poles, with a few crows──Ougi──circling above.

“What about the soccer club? I’ve actually suspected someone close to you might be the culprit.”

But a sports club like soccer… could there really be such a disgusting shadowy figure?

If someone likes Isshiki Iroha and wants to get close to her, wouldn’t it be better to just chat her up directly?

It might seem flippant, but it’s still better than stalking.

“The soccer coach is really harsh, his swearing is terrible. No member dares to hit on me, and I’ve only added Tobe-senpai and Hayama-senpai on Line…”

    “I see.”

Asakura Yuu often heard the baseball coach yell things like ‘Idiot!

Moron!’ and it seemed the soccer club was much the same.

Isshiki Iroha suddenly stopped in her tracks.

    “What’s wrong?”

    “I have a guy’s Line number, Yuu-kun, why aren’t you reacting?”

“How do you see your own boyfriend, Aya-chan?” Asakura Yuu played along with her pet name.

“Very possessive, the phone can only have my number, and if anything’s off, I’d lock my girlfriend in the basement and only give her water every day…”

“Where did this pervert come from?”

    After saying that.

Asakura Yuu put his arm around her shoulders, pulling her into his embrace.

    He whispered, “Is it here?”

    “Maybe it’s just a misunderstanding.”

Isshiki Iroha wasn’t sure and couldn’t rule out the possibility that she had just misjudged with her peripheral vision.

She turned and hugged Asakura Yuu’s waist, standing on tiptoes to bring her face close, and for a moment, it looked like they were about to kiss.

    ‘…No one.’

In her line of sight, until the corner of the street, there were only a few elementary school kids playing around.

Coming to her senses, Isshiki Iroha kissed Asakura Yuu on the cheek, then let go of him.

    “You got lucky.”

    “It was soft.”

“Don’t give your thoughts, are you a pervert, senpai?”

Isshiki Iroha took his hand, her status a bit tense, which was clear from her expression.

On the way home, feeling such a lewd gaze in a place like this, it was only natural for a girl to be scared.

“Walk me back,” her voice was no longer naturally calm.

    “Mhm.”

    Her apartment was nearby.

    Ten minutes later.

In front of a fancy-looking apartment building, Isshiki Iroha took out her electronic card, swiped it, but didn’t immediately go in.

    “Senpai…”

    “What’s up?”

“Want to come in and hang out?” Isshiki Iroha turned around, her voice trembling slightly. “This is the first time I’ve been followed to a place like this. Usually, I’m safe after getting off the train…”

    “Yeah.”

Asakura Yuu knew this apartment was relatively safe, but Isshiki Iroha’s status was clearly off.

After closing the apartment door, they got on the elevator.

Only then did Isshiki Iroha’s expression ease.

She lowered her head, her voice trembling even more noticeably.

“Senpai, I… actually have something I’ve been hiding from you.”

In the elevator, the floor numbers quickly reached 8.

    Ding!

    The doors opened.

“Is it important? If it’s not that important, let’s talk about it later.”

Asakura Yuu took her hand, trying to calm her down.

    “It’s important… very important!”

Until the elevator doors closed, Isshiki Iroha didn’t move.

Asakura Yuu pressed the open button again, leading her out of the elevator.

“…I think I know who the culprit is.”

    “Who?”

“I rejected a guy’s confession in the last semester of middle school.”

    Middle school?

    That was ages ago!

“He went to Soubu High School too… I specifically chose a school where he wouldn’t bother me, but why?” Isshiki Iroha buried her face in Asakura Yuu’s chest, her voice muffled with a hint of crying. “He even joined the soccer club… It’s so weird.”

    “He’s been pestering you?”

Isn’t it cooler for a guy to gracefully walk away after being rejected?

“Yeah, he was persistent for a year in middle school.”

“…He joined the kendo club this semester. He hadn’t contacted me, and I thought he’d given up, but a week ago, I saw him near the soccer field. Then, on the way home…” Isshiki Iroha tightened her arms around Asakura Yuu’s waist.

‘She’s trembling.’ Asakura Yuu gently stroked her shoulder-length, tea-colored hair, pulling her into a hug.

After a long while, Isshiki Iroha’s emotions calmed down a bit.

But after leaving Asakura Yuu’s embrace, she still hadn’t recovered her usual devilish status, looking listless.

“That’s the situation. I can only rely on you now, Senpai.”

Isshiki Iroha gave him a very forced smile.

    “…Understood.”

Considering the safety issues, the other 2 girls in the Service Club, Asakura Yuu, didn’t want to get involved in this matter.

So, it seemed that Isshiki Iroha could only rely on him.

    …………

Upon entering the apartment, it wasn’t very large, as expected of a single-person household.

There was a small, elegant kitchen, a surprisingly spacious bathroom where one could stretch their legs in the bathtub, and a somewhat small but sufficient balcony for a girl to hang her clothes.

A music CD player was playing old songs by Nakajima Miyuki, Hamazaki Ayumu (step/walk), and Matsuda Seiko, which kept looping.

    “Please have a drink.”

Isshiki Iroha walked out of the kitchen with a glass of cola and placed it on the small coffee table in front of the TV.

“Thanks, I was just getting thirsty.”

Seeing her emotions calm down significantly, Asakura Yuu also felt more at ease.

It was getting late, and he still had to head back home; in the past, when there was no one at home, he could do whatever he wanted, but now that Momo was at home, Asakura Yuu couldn’t just stay out all night without a reason and worry her.

“What do you do when you’re at home, Senpai?”

    “I eat and read books.”

“Don’t you get bored?” Isshiki Iroha sat down on the sofa and turned to look at him.

The living room wasn’t very big, and the bedroom was right next to it.

“Not at all; when I see something I don’t understand, I feel like I’ve grown, and my mood improves.”

“Is that the new hobby you found in high school?”

“…You really do know about my past, don’t you?” Asakura Yuu picked up the glass, and the carbonation in the cola fizzed in his mouth.

Back during the baseball game before the mid-term exams, she had mentioned his middle school club, even though Asakura Yuu had barely told anyone about it.

“After all, you were the manager of the kendo club in middle school, right?”

“I didn’t see you; didn’t your school make it past the regional qualifiers?”

    “…Yeah.”

Senpai, don’t say something like “that’s so weak” (Kotori), okay?

You should understand the principle of not mocking others when they’re down, right?

“So, it’s a trash school, huh.”

Isshiki Iroha smiled slightly upon hearing this.

    As expected.
