Chapter 89 The Speed of Thunder

The drizzle fell onto the school grounds of Soubu High School.

The numerous students in the stands had no intention of leaving.

Those who had umbrellas opened them, others ran underneath to temporarily escape the rain, and some were determined to watch the football match to the end, regardless of the storm.

As for why this was the case.

It was because the Soubu High School’s football team was being dominated by the opponent, and the battle was fierce.

Only 30 minutes into the match, the score was already 3:1.

At this rate, the score might be even more devastating than last year’s regional qualifiers!

If the gap widened to double digits, future Soubu High School students might have to walk with their heads down forever when they see students from Nishijou High!

Just thinking about such a future was painful!

But Hayato Hayama and his team were still fighting for everyone, so it was even more inappropriate to leave now.

    “We’re doomed to lose.”

“Even this year’s fairly strong football team can’t win…”

“Damn it! At such a crucial moment, that asshole is still flirting with a junior on the bench, goddamn it, put our school’s honor first!”

“He’s a scumbag after all, sleeping around with women all year round. How can someone be so good at studies, so handsome, and yet so disgusting? He really deserves to die!”

“So disgusting, I’m gonna puke. Being so excellent is just nauseating!”

    Below the stands.

Asakura Yuu was completely unaware that a bunch of guys were secretly cursing him.

“Senior, aren’t you going to play?” Isshiki Iroha sat in Asakura Yuu’s lap, watching the football team members running in the rain.

The rain wasn’t too heavy, so playing football wouldn’t be a problem.

“Hayama hasn’t given up, I trust him.”

“You just don’t want to make an effort, do you, senior?”

“If I go up, I can only make up about 3 points at most. You’re overestimating me.”

“No, no, no, being able to snatch 3 points from such an opponent is already incredible!”

Isshiki Iroha asked curiously, “Can’t you make up more than 3 points using the breathing technique?”

“…Would you use a cannon to kill a mosquito? A swordsman rarely uses the breathing technique on the field just to show off.”

“That guy was staring at me with dirty eyes…” Isshiki Iroha pointed at the bald guy serving as the opponent’s forward.

“I’ll kick him a few times for you.”

“That’s not enough, senior. I’m your girlfriend, after all.”

    “Just a fake girlfriend, right?”

    “You’re a man who doesn’t understand romance.”

“And you’re a woman who doesn’t understand men.”

    “Senior, I like you.”

    “I like you too.”

Hearing his evasive answer, Isshiki Iroha just wanted to headbutt him!

Normally, if a girlfriend is stared at by a strange man with dirty eyes, the boyfriend would at least get jealous, even if he’s not angry.

    Your attitude is so frustrating!

    “Here it comes.”

    Asakura Yuu suddenly spoke up.

    “What?”

In a flash, a streak of lightning zipped across the sky, followed by a resounding “Boom!”

    The rain began to pour.

“Senior, how did you know it was going to thunder?”

    “Intuition.”

    “…?”

Can you really predict this kind of thing by intuition?

Before Isshiki Iroha could ask anything, she noticed everyone on the field had stopped moving──it seemed the rain was too heavy, and they’d have to wait a bit.

The Soubu High School field wasn’t real grass; it was artificial turf, so the rain didn’t affect it (Hibiki) as much.

Hayato Hayama and Kakeru Tobe ran over to where Asakura Yuu was.

“Asakura, once the rain lets up, you go in, okay? I’m counting on you.”

Hayato Hayama quickly explained the substitution situation to Asakura Yuu.

    “Understood.”

“I’ll try my best to pass to you,” Kakeru Tobe said, catching his breath. “It’s tiring to play in the rain, so let’s focus on long passes.”

“Honestly, we shouldn’t continue with the game if it’s thundering, but the other team insists on finishing. Plus…” Hayato Hayama gave a wry smile. “There are so many students supporting us; we can’t just give up easily.”

“Don’t let those people push us around. If they really had a problem with it, they’d band together and resist. Instead, they just sit in the stands and criticize.”

In the end, they just don’t have the guts to take responsibility or risks.

“Asakura’s right,” Kakeru Tobe nodded in agreement.

Helping out with this is our own choice, not an obligation.

After all, no one in the popular group has been targeted by the West High yet, and the soccer club members aren’t afraid of being bullied.

Even if we win this game, the only ones who benefit are the students who don’t contribute but still get to enjoy the rewards.

“Let’s play. It’s just rain. It’s uncomfortable for us, but the West High guys won’t have it easy either,” Asakura Yuu said, a bit exasperated with Hayato Hayama’s personality, shifting the topic.

    “Sorry.”

“No worries, no need to apologize for something like this between friends.”

Asakura Yuu waited a few minutes with the two of them.

    The rain quickly let up.

It returned to the light drizzle it was at the start of the match.

Stepping onto the field, Asakura Yuu saw the opposing team’s bald winger approach from a distance.

“You’re the boyfriend of that female manager, huh?”

Asakura Yuu adjusted his breathing, ignoring the guy’s noisy comment.

“I’ve heard about you, you’ve got no shortage of women. How about…” The bald guy, Uesugi, lifted the corner of his mouth: “You let me have a go with her?”

Asakura Yuu slowly closed his eyes.

These days, it’s rare to see such a textbook delinquent character, only someone from a notorious high school could produce this.

“Hey, hey, hey, why’d you clam up? You scared, huh?”

“The match hasn’t even started yet, I don’t have to follow the rules. Try saying that again if you want to die.”

Asakura Yuu opened his eyes, faint arcs of electricity crackling around him, emitting a low, mosquito-like hum (Hibiki).

A gentleman hides his weapon, waiting for the right moment to strike.

What it boils down to is…

    A single strike to kill!

“You…” Kamijou swallowed, his lips dampened by the rain, his face a picture of panic.

    He’s seen this Status before!

On the kendo club captain from the other high school!

Without a doubt, it’s the breathing technique… but how could that be?

Soubu High School is a prep school filled with nerds, how could there be a swordsman who’s mastered the breathing technique?

“It’s rare for someone to make me angry, but congrats, you’ve done it.”

A dangerous smile crept onto Asakura Yuu’s lips.

“I’d advise you not to do anything reckless. If you hurt me, you’re looking at expulsion!” Kamijou’s expression turned sinister.

For students at these academic high schools, fighting is forbidden.

If it gets out of hand, the school will cave to the pressure and expel the troublemaker.

There have been similar incidents at Soubu High School before, and the outcome was predictable; the one who fought was ‘asked’ to leave the school.

The reason delinquents always get their way is largely because of this.

The shoeless aren’t afraid of those with shoes.

    So what if you’re strong?

    Rebel?

You think you can break the school rules?

    ‘I’m untouchable now, idiot!’

    Know why villains always win?

Because the good guys worry too much!

You’ve already chosen the wrong side!

    Failure is inevitable!

“Second half of the match! Begin!”

The whistle of the referee sounded.

    After the flash…

    “BOOM!!!”

Thunderous roars of lightning exploded in the distance (Hibiki)!

Kamijou Taro, who was taunting just moments ago, along with all the players on the field, quickly looked up at the sky, their attention captured.

That lightning strike was too close!

The field quickly descended into chaos, students scattering in a panic.

Amidst the noise, he faintly heard a whisper-like sound (Hibiki)…

    “Thunder Breathing·Total Concentration…” it resonated.

After the sound of electricity crackling, Kamijou Taro finally snapped his head down.

A golden figure was drawing closer in his field of vision!

    “Bam!”

His chest was hit by a fist, and several ribs were broken in a row, a strong stabbing pain exploded in his mind, Uesugi glared with wide eyes, in front of him, Asakura Yuu’s face was like a devil from hell, with Golden lightning flashing in his breath…

    ‘How dare he?’

If something happens to me, you won’t have it easy either!

With this thought, Uesugi Fuutaro lost consciousness.

In the center of the football field.

Asakura Yuu dragged the bald man, preparing to take him to the infirmary.

His master-level free fighting skills gave him extremely strong reaction speed and control over his strength.

He deliberately controlled it to a degree where the person wouldn’t die immediately, and with the rapid healing bandages in his system backpack, he dared to do so.

‘Too bad it’s not ancient times, murder is against the law…’

Arriving at the edge of the field.

The opposing team’s members immediately came over upon seeing the situation

    “What’s wrong with Uesugi?”

“He was startled by the lightning and directly fell to the ground, I’ll take him to the infirmary now,” Asakura Yuu said with a sigh.

    “…Thanks.”

“No problem, it’s a friendly match, having fun is the most important thing.”
