Chapter 98 The Plot Within the Plot Within the Plot

    “Still not working.”

Accompanying her friend to the main hall, the crowd had thinned out, but the phone signal was still terrible, with messages failing to send.

Isshiki Saeka held her phone, her fingers tensing slightly.

It was her first time accompanying her senior on a date, and she wasn’t willing to accept such an outcome.

“How about we go over there?” Takikawa pointed to a path beside the main hall, marked with a ‘No Entry for Non-Staff’ sign, where there was no one around.

    “Mhm.”

Saeka couldn’t worry about that; at most, she’d get a scolding if she explained the reason.

The two of them pushed through to the bamboo path next to the main hall square.

Isshiki Saeka looked back at the massive bonfire in the square, towering 2 stories high, thinking about watching the fireworks with Asakura Yuu later.

Next to it was a one-meter-long ceremonial blade, which would be used for the lighting ceremony.

Ayumu slowed her steps, deep in thought.

    A few minutes passed.

Her friend had already reached the ancient house at the end of the road, waving at Saeka, “Isshiki-san, the signal works here! I’ve already sent a message to Yuu, come over quickly.”

    “Got it!”

Isshiki Saeka wanted to run over, but then she remembered she was wearing geta today and quickly abandoned the idea.

    She moved forward slowly.

Halfway there, her eyes widened, and she stood still…

    “What are you doing here?”

In her view, the bald guy Uesugi Fuutaro from the soccer field emerged from behind the house and approached Takikawa, his face alight with a triumphant grin.

    “Takikawa, good job.”

Isshiki Saeka glanced back; there was no one around, the exit was far, and the noise was loud, yet the rustling of the bamboo was conspicuous.

She bit her lip, finally realizing she had been led into a dangerous place…

“Uesugi-san, can you return the money from last time?” Takikawa Yuuka asked in a low voice, ignoring Saeka’s gaze.

She knew betraying a friend was wrong, but that money was for her summer tutoring fees, and not getting it back would be troublesome.

“Oh? I’ve spent all that money, not a cent left.”

    “You… liar!”

Watching her disbelief, Uesugi Fuutaro let out a villainous laugh, barely containing his amusement, “You actually believed me? Hilarious, Soubu High School girls are so easy to fool.”

Isshiki Saeka forced herself to stay calm and asked, “Leading me here, what do you want?”

    “What do you think?”

“The signal’s great here, I can call the police.”

“Call the cops? With a festival of nearly ten thousand people, how long do you think it’ll take for them to get here?” Uesugi Fuutaro hooked his arm around Takekawa Yuka’s shoulder, his expression grim. “And what do you think I’m going to do? You’re a top student at Soubu High School, you should know, right? A lot of girls don’t report even after being raped…”

    “…Scum.”

Isshiki Iroha took a few steps back.

If a girl dares to report it, her future is basically ruined.

It becomes a lifelong label, one she can never escape.

“Juvenile offenders only get a few months. Don’t blame me, blame those adults who make the laws.”

    Just then.

The sound of gongs and drums echoed in the distance.

The festival floats were starting to move.

“By the time the floats finish their tour, the staff here will be back. You better hurry, little girl.” Uesugi Fuutaro noticed Isshiki Iroha turning her head slightly, as if preparing to run, and coldly reminded her, “Are you going to abandon your friend and leave?”

    “Isshiki-san! Run! Ugh…”

Before Takekawa Yuka could finish shouting, her mouth was covered by a large hand.

As a girl, she had no power to resist the boys from the sports clubs.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she looked at Isshiki Iroha with a pleading gaze.

    Run away.

    ‘Should I run?’

Staying here was a fool’s errand.

Even with 2 girls, they might not be able to fight back.

The best choice was to go outside and call for help, but if she left, Takekawa-san would definitely be…

She didn’t know the roads here.

If Takekawa-san was taken to some small corner, it might not be helpful to find someone to help.

    Call for help directly?

No way, the festival’s noise is so loud, even if she shouted, no one would hear.

It’s best to stall and wait for the staff to return.

But she’d have to hold out for at least ten minutes.

    Could she do it?

In a place no one noticed, a butterfly with azure blue wings rested on a bamboo leaf, stretching its body, still shining with a dreamy color even in the night.

    …………

    A few minutes ago.

    “Are you trying to die?!”

Asakura Yuu ignored the person’s scolding and squeezed past.

He really didn’t expect that in this day and age, there would still be such a clueless guy…

Fortunately, he sent the butterfly out last time to protect the underclassman’s safety, otherwise, if something bad happened, it would be too late to regret it.

“Get out of the way, I’m in a hurry.”

    “Sorry.”

    “Move it.”

Asakura Yuu slowly walked up the steps, holding a wooden sword he bought from the general store.

    One step at a time.

He passed through the torii gate, which symbolized the sacred land of the gods.

Crossing over the square where a giant bonfire was piled up.

He let out a few long breaths, adjusting his breathing.

Ayumu’s pace gradually accelerated, and a few sparks emerged on his body.

    “Pitter-patter……”

The rain forecasted in the weather report fell down, relentless and continuous, hitting his face like needles.

The starting point of the bamboo forest.

Asakura Yuu swung the wooden sword in his hand, and a hint of displeasure appeared on his originally expressionless face.

Meanwhile, at the end of the road, Uesugi Fuutaro still hadn’t noticed the danger…

“You’d better send a message to your little lover and call him over, or…”

    Wait, what’s that?

    “?”

    Grass!

As soon as he caught a glimpse of Asakura Yuu, Uesugi Fuutaro’s face visibly showed a terrified expression, and in his line of sight, Asakura Yuu’s slightly open eyes seemed like a demon from hell, filled with red blood…

‘Why did he come so quickly! It’s impossible!’

He hurriedly released the woman in his hands and took a stance.

Since he didn’t die from the opponent’s attack last time, he would definitely be fine this time too!

The continuous raindrops fell on the wooden sword, and Asakura Yuu slowly gathered his center of gravity, closed his eyes, and was enveloped by lightning.

    “The air… is shaking?”

Uesugi Fuutaro said with a trembling voice, his legs weakening.

    How could this be.

    The next moment.

Just like in his memories, no, even more terrifying!

The overwhelming lightning came with an astonishing momentum, and a wooden sword wrapped in electricity fell into his line of sight, rapidly enlarging as if in slow motion…

This time, the demon didn’t let out a roar, but only slightly opened his tightly closed eyes.

    Lightning flashed!

“Boom!” Uesugi Fuutaro’s body was struck by the wooden sword in a stabbing motion, breaking many bamboo stalks and smashing into the wall of an old house behind him, creating a dent before slowly falling down like mud.

Before losing consciousness, Uesugi Fuutaro’s last thought was… what the hell was this move?

Soon, the helper he had invited answered this question for him…

“…Even a normal Tsuika can be used with such power, you’re more exaggerated than I thought.”

Kikuchi Yo, who had been hiding in the shadows and waiting for Asakura Yuu to arrive, shook his head slightly, regretting his decision to confront him.

“Angering me won’t do you any good.”

Asakura Yuu’s mouth curved into a faint, Shinobu-like smile.

“To make you bring out your true strength, this little trick is quite effective, isn’t it?”

    “Congratulations, you’ve succeeded halfway.”
