Chapter 12 Today I Discovered Who I Was

Like going back in time, space-time transformations.

Light and shadow dance, the surrounding suddenly returns to familiar scenes, Kuzuki returns.

Outside is still black night, he picks up a sand timer from the table, similar in size to his pre-bed routine. This indicates that engaging in [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)] and practicing [Training] are equally instantaneous in this world.

Kuzuki stands straight, entering deep sleep… this time it is normal.

For the next sixteen days, everything was calm. He practiced the Poisonous Snake 99 Techniques and Five Forms Fist every day.

With years of practice, the Poisonous Snake 99 Techniques have become second nature to him. In terms of martial arts terminology, he has reached a state where further progress is nearly impossible without sudden enlightenment.

His focus now shifts towards the Five Forms Fist, aiming to master it completely.

He can now control the five changing forms of the Five Forms Fist. Each time he strikes, there is a sound.

If he were to fully master the Five Forms Fist, these sounds would blend into nothingness.

The toneless sound echoes through the empty room as Kuzuki examines the files and documents on the desk.

The mission is approaching. Kuzuki is taken to a white room with bare walls, filled with a stack of documents and some forms of identification.

He quickly scrolls through them without giving much thought, turning instead to his disguise.

To carry out an assassination, one must present a stable social identity. For this mission, The Group has prepared a convincing disguise, including birth certificates and driving licenses from the past year. While these experiences are fictional in reality, they are verifiable on electronic records.

Surprisingly, Kuzuki’s pulse quickens slightly. His control over his body is flawless; this shouldn’t happen at all.

He doesn’t pay attention to these strange occurrences and focuses intently on the first page of the document.

The name is written in the top-left corner.

    “Kuzuki Souichirou.”

“Oh… it’s you.” He couldn’t help but feel a sense of recognition, especially regarding his mastery of the Poisonous Snake 99 Techniques.

It wasn’t the instinctive familiarity from physical cultivation that he initially thought; this was something else entirely.

“The world during [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)] and this world are both virtual realities from a previous life. Do these worlds truly exist, or are they merely illusions?” Kuzuki didn’t let his awareness of the nature of his world affect his thoughts about it.

Having crossed over into another dimension initially made him question the reality of this world.

Regarding truth and falsehood, he had already formed his judgment from the moment he crossed over.

Even if it were false, it was false in a way that was indistinguishable from the truth.

However, there is one thing he cannot bring himself to let go of.

The various virtual and hypothetical fantasies of the past are actually real. Therefore, if we logically deduce that this world’s numerous works are also real, then by infinite recursion, wouldn’t there be infinitely many universes, dimensions, and multitudes?

Regarding these speculations, Kuzuki only thought about them for a moment before stopping his thoughts. Thinking too deeply about the infinitely high and distant things is not beneficial at this stage; let’s focus on what we can do now!

Knowing one’s own identity, Kuzuki naturally began to recall as much as possible about the information he gathered regarding Kuzuki Souichirou from past works.

Regrettably, since Souichirou is often portrayed as a secondary character in many works, with little pen-and-paper description and not being a focus of attention, Kuzuki only remembered a small amount of information about Souichirou.

“I only remember that Souichirou was the Caster’s master in the fifth Holy Grail War①, his identity as a teacher at Ryūdō Temple is public, and he teaches by day while engaging in scholarly pursuits by night. Other than these details, I can’t recall anything else… Forgive me if I forget that in Game works, Souichirou always dies in each playthrough route; does that mean his fate is predetermined to end with death?”

As for whether the real world follows the fate predicted by these works, Kuzuki isn’t certain. However, he has decided to take action and verify this fact.

Even if his fate is predetermined, Kuzuki is not someone who will yield easily… He will hold onto his fate firmly!

    ···········

After a month of rest, the Instructor’s injuries have improved significantly. Now he can act like a normal person without pain… However, enduring such suffering is something I can’t bear to imagine. As a member of a killer organization, I must maintain my composure and not display weakness.

“Regarding the details about your cover identity and the information on target, please keep them firmly in mind. The Group’s task cannot fail; you know how to proceed, right?” The Instructor still has that cold face but there’s an unreadable expression in his eyes. “The Group will give you opportunities close to the target, and all you need to do is approach the target and kill it. Once they tell you how, we’ll take care of the rest.”

The task description ends here; after the Instructor finishes explaining, he quickly turns around and leaves. This time, I don’t think they’ll meet again… So this person’s nightmares might not happen as often as before?

A private helicopter landed in a forested area some distance away and began to take off shortly after.

Kuzuki sat in the back of the helicopter, and theHowling wind swept by his ears as familiar buildings were obscured by the dense canopy of trees below. Everything he could see was now covered with lush greenery.

Before the helicopter could take him to a densely populated city, it had lowered him off and instructed him to act alone from this point onward.

Just like in [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)], Kuzuki prioritized gathering information first.

It wasn’t until now that he realized the exact date.

    April 15, 1998.

This is about a year and one month later than expected; at this time, Japanese computers were still rare, and net bars had not yet emerged.

Therefore, Kuzuki used his available funds from his wallet to purchase numerous books on world history and social studies from a local bookstore.

Souichirou has his own home… Although he had never lived there before, following the instructions on his residence document, he used the new key to open the house door for the first time.

There was a visible envelope in the entrance hall; upon opening it, Kuzuki discovered an invitation to a party scheduled for four days later at a place he had never heard of before.

He placed the invitation aside and began to leaf through the stack of books on his desk, which was set up in front of him on the floor.

The first book wasn’t about world history; it was a guidebook for Mifune City’s self-guided tours… (Mifune City Self-guided Tours).

①Holy Grail War: A legend of seven warriors summoned from the heavens to engage in combat, with the victor able to wish upon the Holy Grail.
