Chapter 33 The surrounding seemed somewhat quiet.
It gave the impression that someone had deliberately left it in a somber mood.
After returning from [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)], Kuzuki noticed something was off immediately.
“Time had passed so long that I almost forgot, and there was also a monster tracking me… which suggested it found me.” His eyes glowed with dangerous intent as he spoke. “Looks like it’s found me, really persistent.”
The overtaking of the air filled him with malicious sense.
He slowed his breathing, allowing his intense Intent to Kill to gradually subside, and his breath merged seamlessly with the darkness.
For Kuzuki, Magecraft was a mysterious entity he had no understanding of. To ensure an advantage in battle against Dead Apostle, he intended to exploit his own strengths by attacking before Dead Apostle’s reactions.
In their first encounter, Kuzuki had confirmed that the monster chasing him wasn’t a type with physical attacks, but one with exceptionally strong defense and healing abilities. So, if it hadn’t reacted quickly enough to strike back, he could easily take it out.
[First, does the opponent’s ability work as a lock or a hint? Or is it based on perception? If it were both locked and perceived, my limited methods of hiding might expose me. Let me try approaching him cautiously… However, I can sense that he has already discovered my location, but with the intention of tricking me into attacking first.]
Second, is there a widespread hypnotic ability or just sound suppression? If it were the former, the noise might awaken others and draw them into combat. If it were the latter, then there’d be no shockwave effect causing panic among passersby.
Third, during our first encounter, that monster only displayed abilities such as transformation and self-healing. Now, is it prepared to stop me? Is there a trap set up for me? Or does it believe I’m running out of chances and has already planned to defeat me with Magecraft?
With limited knowledge about Magecraft, Kuzuki could only speculate based on guesses.
This world is filled with deep waters, things that can endanger lives are too numerous to count. Therefore, compared to his time in [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)], his fighting style now is completely different.
He proceeds cautiously, like stepping on ice. If he doesn’t act, nothing happens; if he acts, it’s certain death.
·········
Ishikawa Rikuto… the one chasing Kuzuki, Dead Apostle.
He knows where Kuzuki is and enters the room stealthily with his bright red eyes glowing faintly—able to see in darkness.
“Do you come here to catch me? So you’ve hidden yourself away?” Ishikawa Rikuto’s lips curved into a sly smile as he spoke. “This time, you’re not going to escape…!”
The tail sound seemed extraordinarily drawn out and odd in tone.
He tilted his head, confused about why the smell he’d detected earlier had changed so quickly.
Even though he could identify people based on their smells or gauge their dangerousness from scents alone, Kuzuki’s residual scent suddenly became extremely dangerous.
“Not only a killer but also someone with contact? You’re overestimating him.” Ishikawa Rikuto narrowed his eyes and pointed slightly with his little finger.
Ishikawa Rikuto isn’t stupid; he just doesn’t respect humans because they are ordinary people, unable to defeat Dead Apostle’s absolute advantage. In his view, humans have no chance against someone who possesses Magecraft, giving them an insurmountable advantage. However, after receiving information about Kuzuki becoming extremely dangerous through Magecraft, he realized that Kuzuki isn’t just a regular human anymore but must be treated as such.
So he immediately activated Magecraft.
Search for human!
However, Magecraft feedback caused a stir in Kuzuki’s mind.
Right there.
Ishikawa Rikuto was completely unaware of Kuzuki’s presence. He suddenly turned around and activated another Magecraft.
A flash of light!
The flash of light from Ishikawa Rikuto’s body radiated sharply, illuminating the room in such detail that even the tiniest features were magnified.
No one was there.
How is this possible?
Ishikawa Rikuto roared, and his Body began to expand at a visible rate.
But there was still someone holding him back from the moment he transformed. His hand grabbed Ishikawa Rikuto’s head and twisted it 270 degrees, forcing him to hang upside down on the ceiling.
Kuzuki did not believe that this single action could kill Ishikawa Rikuto, even though he was a Dead Apostle.
As a gymnast-like motion, Kuzuki struck with precision and force.
His fist delivered a blow equivalent to a bomb, shattering Ishikawa Rikuto’s body.
Kuzuki saw his body suddenly thrust backward like a balloon, then explode in a massive explosion, creating an empty space the size of a basketball!
Even though there was no physical damage, Kuzuki still felt the need to continue attacking.
His other hand, shaped like a dragon’s tail, carried swirling energy that collided with his head and delivered another blow.
Sigh!
The blow pierced through the skull, but Kuzuki’s expression was unexpected.
It felt like he had hit nothing.
No real hit, as if he had pierced a shadowy form.
Ishikawa Rikuto’s body suddenly transformed into countless black shadows. They vanished instantly on the other side, leaving no trace of his injuries but making him appear more pale.
[Is there a way to ignore physical attacks? Why didn’t I use it before? Is this due to the Certain Death Strike? This ability shouldn’t be used at will…]
Kuzuki analyzed the situation as best he could.
Ishikawa Rikuto’s face turned as dark and ominous as ever. “He nearly forced me into using my final survival technique, which is impressive…”
His Body suddenly expanded again, his clothes torn apart by the sheer force of it.
The muscles around him were so robust they seemed to twist like steel rods around his bones. His tendons were raw and taut.
“I used a hundred times my blood reserve to gain this power, but I need to slowly break through every bone in your body before you can stay awake and watch yourself become a preserved corpse!”
It thrust its massive legs forward with the force of a train rushing toward Kuzuki.
There’s no strategy here; it’s all about brute force.
The concrete-reinforced walls were torn through like foam board due to the sheer power of the monster.
[The power is good, but useless.]
A martial artist shouldn’t fear a gun just because it’s fast; only the speed surpasses the hand’s grip. Clearly not, as only the speed of movement exceeds the hand.
Once transformed into a towering monster by Dead Apostle, it possesses immense power but lacks in technique. Kuzuki can easily exploit its body’s force of will, motion trajectory, and anticipations—essentially preknowing every move. Since it’s moving faster than Kuzuki, how could it hit him?
[Clumsy.]
It’s incredibly clumsy! Even exerting force at will are impossible; stopping a charge requires buffering the force. The flow and changes in power are childishly simple, with movements full of weaknesses.
[Just a head muscle monster.]
Even Kuzuki wouldn’t fall to such a monster. He’s only feared for Dead Apostle’s Magecraft, the mysterious ability.
But now, Dead Apostle is using this pose instead of its Magecraft—its biggest mistake.
