Chapter 46 Surgery and the Two Girls in Coma
Kuzuki gently lifted Fujino’s clothing, revealing the skin beneath her stomach.
The situation was sudden, so he had no choice but to check on Fujino without appearing overly polite. As a master and pupil, this kind of interaction should fall within normal boundaries, right?
“Is it in pain?” Kuzuki pressed his fingers gently on the spot where Fujino was covering her mouth with her hand.
Fujino nodded weakly, her tears blurred by the pain.
Gently pressing with his fingers, he asked, “Can you make it a bit softer? Kuzuki sensei?”
The fingers pressed against Fujino’s abdomen felt slightly abnormal due to the layer of skin separating them.
This position…
Known in medicine as McBurney’s Point, located just below the belly button on the right side. More precisely, it is the point where a line connecting the right ilium and the navel divides the abdomen externally to one-third its length. This area has a close relationship with a particular medical condition.
Appendicitis.
Since this is where the appendix typically resides, pressing here allows access to the appendix.
As a skilled assassin with a deep understanding of human anatomy and physiology, Kuzuki’s lack of knowledge in this area disqualified him from being part of The Group’s training program.
When he released his grip on Fujino’s abdomen suddenly, her expression remained mostly unchanged.
If appendicitis is acute, this method would cause severe pain in the patient.
“There’s no jumping-pain, so it can’t be an acute appendiceal issue.” Kuzuki continued to gently press, moving his fingers across the skin with practiced ease. “The gallbladder is normal, there are no lymph nodes swollen, and the ovarian appendage appears within range. Therefore, this must be a chronic appendiceal issue…”
Closing his eyes to focus on sensing Fujino’s internal organs with his “Spirit” ability, Kuzuki felt a clearer understanding of her body through his fingertips. However, he had to concentrate fully and avoid distractions.
Opening his eyes revealed that Fujino was already crying, having known from the moment Kuzuki moved that she was being checked. She kept her mouth closed to suppress her tears and endure the pain.
“It’s okay, it hasn’t reached the most severe stage yet.”
Chronic appendicitis can develop into a dangerous condition if left untreated, potentially leading to perforated appendix and life-threatening complications.
“No worries, let’s take you to the hospital.” Kuzuki wiped Fujino’s tears with his fingers.
“Hospital? Do you have to go···”
“Yeah, you have to go. Don’t worry; you’ll be fine.”
School is too big, the Teachers’ Dormitory is far from the school entrance.
Looking at Fujino in pain, Kuzuki didn’t hesitate and turned to him: “Climb up.”
“Yeah. Hand it over to me, Kuzuki teacher.” Fujino lies on Kuzuki’s back, his arms gently wrapping around his neck.
It feels so light…
Kuzuki instantly knew Fujino’s weight—under 50 kilograms, like a soft bundle of dough.
When leaving, he saw the new teacher, Kurogiri Satsuki.
He looks similar to Kuzuki: same hairstyle, eyeglasses, and neatly dressed in suits. Except for appearance and demeanor, from a distance, they might be mistaken for each other.
“Kuzuki teacher, this is…”
“Fujino’s Body needs care; can I ask Kurogiri Satsuki teacher to leave him at the admin office on leave?”
“Pass it over.”
Kurogiri Satsuki smilingly agreed.
Kuzuki nodded, trying to make Fujino feel comfortable as he moved quickly.
With his impressive grasp of Fujino’s Body, he could move in such a way that even if it bounced back, Fujino could still run at full speed normally.
Just a few minutes later, they arrived at the school’s entrance on the straight road.
Kuzuki was moving faster than the car, but that meant Fujino couldn’t have a comfortable environment while being carried. So he had to call for transportation.
Standing at the side of the road with Fujino on his back, he heard Fujino speak: “Kuzuki teacher, can we just go straight to the hospital?”
“Yeah. Hand it over to me.”
Fujino couldn’t see her expression but felt her heart thumping quickly. It was more intense than when she had laid still against his back initially.
“Why? If it were a car, you’d reach the hospital faster, wouldn’t you?”
“Because… because I’m not in pain anymore… so slowing down is okay.” Fujino’s heart had always been quick and her breathing rapid. Plus, she couldn’t see behind her, so Kuzuki wasn’t sure if she was lying or not.
“Oh… can it be?” Kuzuki took a step forward along the road.
Cars passed by noiseily in this chaotic environment. The person behind Fujino fell asleep peacefully on her back.
They arrived at the hospital.
After checking, they were diagnosed with chronic Appendicitis. The doctor immediately prepared for surgery.
Asagami Fujino’s family could influence this area, which is why she was ready to perform the surgery right away.
Fujino felt a moment of doubt when looking at Kuzuki. He never wavered in his determination, and that gave her peace.
Correct, as long as Kuzuki was there, everything would be fine.
Waiting outside the surgery room on the corridor, Kuzuki stayed calm while he waited for the operation to begin.
An hour and fifteen minutes later, she saw a familiar figure.
Kokutou Mikiya was there. She was holding a bouquet of Azaka flowers at the nurse’s desk.
“Kuzuki, where are you?” Kokutou Mikiya greeted him with a warm smile as she approached.
“You brought a student for treatment.”
“Oh right, last time you asked me to look into something. It’s mostly done now; the records are in the Temple Hall (Aozaki Touko Workshop). Do you want to retrieve them?”
“No need for now. I’ll come later.”
“Alright, I’ll go see a patient then. Farewell, Kuzuki.” Kokutou Mikiya left.
Fifteen minutes later, she returned empty-handed.
“Kuzuki, is the patient’s condition severe?” Kokutou Mikiya asked sitting beside him.
If discovered early enough, it can be salvaged; however, the surgery’s difficulty should fall under the ‘ordinary’ category.
Kokutou Mikiya smiled: “Is that right? Well, it really is a good thing if it can be cured; it’s just wonderful!”
His eyes dimmed slightly.
…… already nearly two years without waking up.
Yeah?
Kuzuki suddenly became very alert, like a sharp-eyed cat.
Who…
Why is he here?
Kokutou Mikiya felt a light breeze and raised his head: “Kuzuki-san, what’s…”
The words stopped.
No one was there.
Kokutou Mikiya straightened up and scanned the surroundings with confusion: “Hmm… Where did you go? Did you just disappear?”
A hospital room.
A tall figure through the glass door, watching the person in the room.
Moments later, he moved away.
In a hidden corner where vision was blocked, Kuzuki emerged.
Araya Souren, who had appeared before in front of Fujino and claimed she could be cured.
Kuzuki had met him before… at the Reien Girls’ Academy perimeter, observing Fujino.
[What’s his purpose here? Is it for Fujino? No, it’s this patient in the room.] Kuzuki looked through the glass as well.
Seeing a black-haired girl lying on a sick bed, sleeping peacefully.
Maybe let Kokutou Mikiya investigate this suspicious Araya Souren.
Kuzuki had this idea but didn’t act on it.
That person feels very dangerous; bringing Kokutou Mikiya into it might lead to a life-threatening situation.
