Chapter 47 The Possibility of Dark Flower (Secret Mission)

When Fujino finished her surgery, Kokutou Mikiya had already left.

Sitting in the hospital room, Asagami Fujino smiled faintly upon seeing Kuzuki.

    “This looks… uncomfortable.”

“Yes.” Kuzuki replied, “So we need to get her better soon.”

Asagami Fujino’s innocent remark left the girl a bit deflated, but she quickly regained her composure.

After Fujino had surgery, Kuzuki didn’t stay long in her room. Once Fujino fell asleep, she got up and left.

She arrived at the Temple’s Hall of Records (Aozaki Touko Workshop).

Aozaki Touko was not present this time; only Kokutou Mikiya was on the second floor.

“Ah, it’s Kuzuki-san. Please take a seat, and I’ll get the records for you.” Kokutou Mikiya flipped through some papers on the shelf.

    “Here.”

She handed over a stack of thick files.

Seated in her usual spot, Kuzuki began flipping through the records.

The contents were detailed beyond measure, even mentioning events from eleven years ago when Asagami Fujino was adopted into the Branch Family by Asagami Kouzou. Those words had also been recorded.

As the records flipped through, the true nature of Asagami Kouzou began to emerge.

He was a man with considerable resolve, willing to do whatever it took to achieve his goals.

Originally, Asagami Fujino’s surname was Asagami. It was said that her family was one of the Four Exorcist Clans in Japan. At six years old, her family collapsed, and her mother remarried into the Asagami clan. Her mother’s debt was entirely absorbed by the Asagami family, while their land was also taken over by them.

Kokutou Mikiya meticulously reviewed the records, detailing everything from who might have committed the behind-the-scenes mastermind of Branch Family’s collapse involving Asagami Clan to even minor details about it.

The Asagami family had a high social status and was extremely protective of Fujino. After Fujino developed Optic Neuromyelitis, Asagami Kouzou intentionally instructed the doctor to give her painkillers, using a closed-off demeanor to hide his true intentions. Fujino had suffered similar issues in childhood, which could have led to vision problems.

Kuzuki’s tone indicated an intent to kill.

Such a man was unfit to be Fujino’s adoptive father?

Her heart raced with bloodlust as she flipped through the files, her eyes narrowing. “Why did it get so cold all of a sudden?…”

“Thank you, Kokutou-san. I’ll be leaving soon.”

    “Okay, slow down, Mr. Kuzuki.”

Leaving the Hall of Temple (Aozaki Touko Workshop).

Kuzuki thought, “I don’t want to trouble Asagami Kouzou.”

After all, he is Asagami Fujino’s adoptive father, providing her with education and living expenses. Whether to kill him or not depends on Fujino’s attitude.

Pressing the Intent to Kill, Kuzuki returned to the hospital.

Asagami Fujino had already woken up. She was leaning against the pillow, sitting on the bed, absentmindedly staring out of the window.

Hearing Kuzuki’s return, she smiled and said, “Kuzuki-sensei, I thought you had already gone back.”

“I just went out to take care of some matters. Fujino, what do you think of your adoptive father?”

“Father? He’s a very serious person. Although he rarely communicates with me, I suppose he cares about me?”

“Even though you know that your congenital analgesia was caused by your father, do you still think so?”

Fujino shook her head and said, “He must have his reasons for doing this. Although I don’t like it, I’ve already recovered, so I don’t want to blame him anymore…”

I see… after all, there is the debt of raising you…

Asagami Kouzou, I’ll let you go this time… provided you don’t do anything stupid.

Remembering what Aozaki Touko once mentioned about the Mystic Eyes of Distortion, Kuzuki asked, “Are your eyes still okay? Getting used to them?”

Fujino touched her eyes and said, “You already know, Kuzuki-sensei. Sometimes it’s a little uncomfortable, but I can control them. Look…”

Her pupils suddenly transformed into a complex ring made of red and green interwoven colors, flashing with strange light.

Being stared at by those eyes, Kuzuki felt a sense of crisis rise, a feeling as if a knife were pointed at his heart.

Although he knew Fujino wouldn’t attack him, his body instinctively reacted, and he reflexively moved out of the line of her gaze, his figure flashing as he retreated from the bedside to outside the door.

Seeing Kuzuki’s strong reaction, Fujino hurriedly closed her Mystic Eyes: “Sorry, Kuzuki-sensei, I didn’t mean to scare you.”

“It’s fine.” Kuzuki walked back into the room. “I overreacted. Your eyes are really powerful.”

“Things like this don’t matter, right? I just want a peaceful life. As long as I can feel things, that’s enough for me.”

By this time, it was already late at night, and Kuzuki knew it was not appropriate to stay any longer.

“I went back first, and will come over to see you tomorrow.”

Fujino sighed a bit but kept her smile intact as she said: “So, Mr. Kuzuki, tomorrow I’ll be there.”

    “Hmm.”

Exiting the Academy after passing by Satsuki’s residence, Kuzuki glanced at it briefly.

    No one was inside.

So late now, do you still want to go out?

He just skipped that and went straight into the Training area for exercise before heading back to Sleep World.

Then, over the next three days, it was just about visiting Fujino after school.

Appendectomy isn’t a big surgery. After three days, Fujino wants to go back to school.

“Already able to move normally, just need to take care of diet, and with Kuzuki here, it shouldn’t be an issue at all. So I think returning to school is a good idea.”

“Since you’re pushing for it, let’s do that.” Kuzuki had no reason not to comply.

On the way back, Fujino looked happy and asked Kuzuki if she wanted to check out Market Street.

However, considering Fujino’s build, Kuzuki declined her request.

After parting with the unhappy Fujino, Kuzuki passed by Satsuki’s residence once more.

    He… wasn’t there anymore.

Kuzuki just gave him a quick glance and moved on without further thought.

As for Satsuki, he didn’t seem interested in her. All that mattered was that he didn’t disturb Kuzuki.

Past midnight, Kuzuki entered the world of Assassination Book.

Today is May’s last day, and at exactly midnight, Assassination Book will refresh [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)].

Looking at the timely refreshment of [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)], Kuzuki frowned deeply.

The Refreshment of [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)] happens once a month, but how does Assassination Book determine time? If Kuzuki were to move towards the Meridian Line and cross it, effectively moving back by one day from June 1st to May 31st. Would [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)] refresh again when June 1st arrives?

In essence, time is a human construct set by Earth’s rotation.

Given that Assassination Book uses such time standards, does this imply it was created by intelligent beings from Earth?

If the Assassination Book were some highly technological or mysterious extraterrestrial species from another world, capable of time travel across parallel dimensions and anchored in fantasy worlds, would they adhere to Earth’s time standards when setting up their rules?

    The answer is no.

Assassination Book was created by intelligent beings living on Earth and uses Earth’s time standards.

“Next, during the next refresh, you can verify this: travel from the Eastern Hemisphere to the Western Hemisphere.”

[Dark Flower (Secret Mission)] can be refreshed again. Kuzuki knows that the probability of this happening is almost zero.

Because if it could be refreshed again, it would create a phenomenon where you move westward slightly and the date would roll back to the previous day.

For example, when the date is 6:00 AM on June 1st, moving westward causes it to become 11:59 PM on May 31st. This cycle repeats each time [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)] refreshes during the same date range.

Within this date range alone, [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)] could theoretically be refreshed infinitely.

It’s clear such a bug is unlikely to occur, but Kuzuki still wants to verify it.
