Chapter 55 confrontation
“Teacher Kuzuki···” Fujino’s body trembled slightly.
“Let’s talk later, now if you want to chat, Miss Ryougi probably won’t agree.” Kuzuki walked over to the middle of the two people, separating them.
Ryougi Shiki turned her head slightly and looked at Kuzuki. “If your opponent is me, it’s not bad.”
The eyes of mystery from “Direct Death” flickered to life, the pupil staring directly at Kuzuki with vibrant red and blue colors changing.
Just seeing these eyes made his back crawl like a scorpion’s mandible hanging over his throat. It felt like a scythe was placed on his neck, causing an unprecedented sense of crisis to invade him.
Will die at any time…
Death is so close…
Going to be killed…
The sensitivity of a warrior, in this aspect, seems to have an adverse effect, only bringing meaningless warnings about danger.
Ignoring the fatal threat impact, Kuzuki activated his eyes of death perception.
The pupil instantly transformed into a fragment of clarity, a brilliant and transparent light reflecting Ryougi’s eyes.
[twenty four]!
I saw it, everything was seen.
Infinite “causes” converged through invisible lines into a single point “result”.
The endpoint is death.
Mirrors cannot reflect all things, the Anti-Evil Eye (from *The Kouga Ninja Scrolls*) was greatly affected when Ryougi Shiki’s eyes of death perception were seen in this scroll.
That image is more confusing than seeing a hundred rotating rainbows with all their colors and fragments. Just looking at it would cause a headache.
It contains too much information that cannot be understood, parsed, or remembered.
Two blood streaks winding down his eyes left Kuzuki’s Anti-Evil Eye (from *The Kouga Ninja Scrolls*) being knocked back to its original state.
Although Ryougi Shiki doesn’t know what Kuzuki is going through, her sharp intuition from combat recognized that Kuzuki was entering a situation she couldn’t handle immediately.
This brief opportunity was skillfully grasped by her.
The brute force of death swept past ten meters in an instant, followed by a slash that cut straight through the Death Line, leaving Kuzuki with no chance of survival.
In a world slowing down at a gradual pace, Ryougi Shiki leapt into the air, his arms raised and sword held high, slicing through the air like a shadow before touching Kuzuki’s body with his death-defying eyes.
Just as his death-defying gaze touched upon Kuzuki’s essence for the first time, he finally opened his eyes.
The perception of death encompassed everything that ended, yet there was one thing he could understand without confusion: human life.
That was it.
On its own, Kuzuki understood this aspect well.
By following the singular path of understanding within the infinite web of death, his consciousness returned to reality and reactivated the Anti-Evil Eye (from *Kouga Ninja Scrolls*).
Capture and reflect.
“Gg…”
The sound of slicing through flesh, but only that.
It seemed like the motion was halted, as if time had frozen. Ryougi Shiki froze for a moment before realizing his mistake—he had inadvertently cut into Kuzuki’s chest with his blade.
“Impossible!”
“Kuzuki-sensei!”
Two disbelief-filled voices echoed, those of Ryougi Shiki and Asagami Fujino.
“You have struck my Death Line, yet you are alive?” Ryougi Shiki stepped back, dodging Fujino’s attack with a swift motion.
On the other side…
“Are you injured, Kuzuki-sensei?” Fujino pressed herself back, her voice filled with concern as she approached Kuzuki and tried to staunch his bleeding wound.
Kuzuki drew his blade, the cut not penetrating deeply into flesh, but with a slight effort, he tightened the grip around the wound, causing it to stop bleeding on its own.
“I’m fine, Fujino. Step back.” After soothing her slightly and assuring her of his condition, Kuzuki turned to address Ryougi Shiki’s question.
Ryougi Shiki suddenly felt a pang of realization as his death-defying gaze had inexplicably dimmed.
The perception of death could reveal the end of things, presenting them in the form of Death Lines or death points. Cutting through a Death Line or striking a death point would return things to their original state—death or termination. These “deaths” were not electromagnetic waves affecting visual cells but rather an image created by the Perception of Death itself.
Possessing or lacking this perception resulted in vastly different outcomes when attacked simultaneously with it or without it.
Without activating the Perception of Death, even a simple attack would merely result in a scratch rather than an act of vengeance.
When the gong sound echoes,
Kuzuki begins to slowly tense his body as he unsheathes his dagger.
Ryougi Shiki’s expression darkens immediately, her gaze fixed on Kuzuki’s overwhelming Bloodlust, which now permeates even the material around her. A sudden gust of wind lifts her short hair as if by magic.
The death-piercing Sight of Kuzuki’s movements clings to him like a vulture, intent on preventing another accidental encounter with Ryougi Shiki. His eyes close tightly around his mouth in concentration.
Phew!
Kuzuki appears at Ryougi Shiki’s side with a burst of speed, as if he had teleported.
How fast can you be?
Ryougi Shiki attempts to block his attack with her left foot still on the ground but is too slow; Kuzuki’s hand strikes him midair.
The river-like sound of rushing water from Kuzuki’s body signals that he has attacked. His arm seems fragile and weak, yet it springs up in a manner that defies reason, like a feral rattail darting out to strike.
A loud crash echoes as forceful energy is unleashed into the air. Kuzuki’s hand sends a wave of fierce wind across the ground, scattering debris and sending up a cloud of dust in the process.
Blasted!
The force is unleashed into the air like a detonation, producing a deafening boom as if from a bomb. Intense gusts of fierce wind sweep across the ground, lifting debris and dust into the air.
Ryougi Shiki jumps back several dozen feet, her face furrowed in concentration: “That was off-center! Is this intentional? It’s too wild! If I get hit like that, assembling a complete body is nearly impossible.”
Kuzuki isn’t being malicious. Even Ryougi Shiki, when she steps into action, wouldn’t spare anyone.
Actually, it wasn’t until her vision momentarily blurred that the attack went awry.
[Mystic Eyes are experiencing some visual distortion; things Ryougi Shiki sees aren’t always as they appear.]
Let’s hit him again.
Phew!
Kuzuki’s arm springs up in a shadowy flash, and Fundamental realizes he has initiated an attack without warning Ryougi Shiki, who is now hit by blood. His eyes widen as he looks at the wound on her side.
“It’s some kind of long-range, invisible attack,” Ryougi Shiki says, her gaze fixed on Kuzuki’s bleeding eye. She suddenly understands what has happened. “It must be a vision issue. That force which can close my eyes… its side effects are severe.”
Kuzuki’s arm springs up again in a shadowy flash, and Ryougi Shiki strikes forward with her left hand toward the air ahead of him.
A sound like a balloon being popped emanates from the air as if something has vanished.
[The Mystic Eyes of Death Perception can see not only tangible things but also intangible and even conceptual entities, revealing their endpoints.]
The Invisible Fist of Hundred Steps Divine Fist was cut by her hand, resulting in three broken bones.
Position has been corrected; the next strike will kill her.
