Chapter 6 Shallow Night Visitor
The changes in body shape indicate that Kuzuki’s strength has evolved.
This is because the Five Forms Fist technique surpasses the Hundred Snake Techniques (Snake Arts) in terms of combat effectiveness, leading to this transformation after its practice.
Although the Five Forms Fist may not be as powerful as Hundred Snake Techniques (Snake Arts), it excels in other areas far beyond them.
In traditional Chinese perception, martial arts are not solely for combat; they also serve to enhance personal growth. Most martial arts emphasize physical conditioning, such as strengthening the body and improving health.
The five aspects of martial arts include fist techniques, nurturing method, training method, striking method, and killing method. Nurturing method is considered the most crucial component.
Hundred Snake Techniques (Snake Arts) lack a cultivation aspect; they focus solely on practice and assassination. As an assassin, Kuzuki only needs to kill his targets without considering other factors.
This self-sacrificial approach causes him immense physical strain through the use of his qi, blood, and energy. Over time, this could lead to severe health issues in his later years.
In contrast, Five Forms Fist offers a balanced development: it includes five distinct forms—龙 (Tiger), 豹 (Leopard), 青 (Snake), 鹤 (Eagle), and “蛇” (Snake). Each form hones different aspects of the body. Tiger focuses on strengthening bones, Lion on muscles, Snake on qi, Eagle on energy, and Serpent on spiritual essence.
Additionally, there is an implicit Tiger-Leopard Thunder Sound that can fundamentally improve his physical health through water reflection.
Among these forms, the Tiger shape is characterized by its strength and robustness, enhancing Kuzuki’s body composition; the Lion shape strengthens his muscles for agile movements; the Snake shape improves his qi endurance; the Eagle shape sharpens his precision and reflexes; and the Serpent shape allows him to maintain a high level of stamina.
With this enhanced physical conditioning, Kuzuki’s combat effectiveness has increased significantly—his strength is now at least 180% of what it was before, with even greater improvements in non-combat abilities.
These changes are gradual and subtle, emerging over time without Kuzuki realizing the extent of his transformation.
For someone who has not interacted with Kuzuki for a long time, these changes would be evident.
Every three days, there are routine knowledge impartments.
Upon returning from class, Kuzuki does not immediately begin his exercises; instead, he sits quietly in a chair and meditates deeply.
“Am I revealing any weaknesses? I can sense that Chief Ishikawa has been observing me more closely lately. If I recall correctly, today he viewed my body seven times—four glances from afar and three close observations. What is he looking for? To confirm where his attacks are most effective or what draws him to me? It seems suspicious…”
Kuzuki throws a bucket of water onto the floor, observing it through reflections.
Having had no formal mirror since long ago, he is surprised to see his reflection now.
After washing himself with water from outside, Kuzuki examines his appearance in the reflective surface of a wooden bowl.
For so long without a mirror, he is taken aback to see his face now.
When he first crossed over, Kuzuki had used the medical room’s glass to observe himself meticulously; comparing this with the reflection in the bowl now, he immediately notices the changes.
That’s why he noticed me. His five forms fist has caused a significant change in his body shape. No matter how long he trains here, it only lasts for a moment outside. Since I’ve been training every day for ten-hour-long sessions, my martial arts progress is amazing, and so is my physical transformation.
Because of this, the members have started to pay attention to me. The council will definitely notice something’s wrong with me. However, they won’t suspect anything. They’ll just wait for an excuse.
Kuzuki thought for a while and decided to use his body development as an excuse (he is nineteen now). He knows that the members won’t question it much.
Silently sat in the dark, his eyes unblinking. His movements were stopped after one hour and seventeen minutes of training.
The air was still, and he heard a faint breathing sound from outside. It felt like it came from nowhere but was very real.
No movement at all. His breath didn’t change much until the sound reached the door.
He stopped moving.
It must be someone confused.
There was no sign of life inside, but there definitely was someone outside. They were too strong to have been noticed so quickly.
The person outside felt strange about Kuzuki’s sudden appearance. To test his sanity, he stepped out without hiding himself anymore.
“Have something to say?”
He looked at the fire, which was flickering and casting an eerie glow over him.
Kuzuki’s expressionless face made it seem a bit ghostly. The officer was confused but didn’t know what to say.
“That’s why you’re here, right?”
He looked at Kuzuki with an unreadable expression in his eyes. His movements were tense and nervous.
The officer waited for a moment before realizing he had to act.
Without warning, he struck Kuzuki from behind with his right arm like a snake. He twisted toward Kuzuki’s chest but changed direction at the last minute and bit him on the throat.
[Snake Art: Snake Kiss]
A loud “snarl” echoed through the room.
Blocked.
As if they had foreseen it from the start, the initial defense was aimed at the throat, which a common person would have easily intercepted with their hand. It was as though they were rehearsing for this very moment.
“Attacking students is prohibited by regulation, don’t even think about reminding me of that,” Kuzuki remained calm without showing any signs of anger or surprise.
The officer calmly stepped back and said: “This exercise is to assess your mastery of the Hundred Snake Techniques (Snake Arts). Now, go attack me.”
Kuzuki quickly struck back with a punch.
The sound of “thump-thump” echoed through the air as if a whip was being cracked.
The air was torn apart by sharp cracks that seemed to merge into one continuous line.
His punches, like a chain of snakes, swept across Kuzuki’s body from head to toe and foot to back.
The trajectory of each punch was unpredictable, curving in arcs or taking sharp turns as if they were alive.
Officer Kuzuki stood directly in front of him but the impact came from behind. His movements were fluid and dynamic, like a shadow reacting to sudden motion.
In response, Kuzuki mirrored his every move, maintaining an identical posture as he engaged in mutual combat.
