Chapter 75 August of the End
“Good afternoon, today is August 31st. I will now broadcast the news for you about Fujou Building… first, regarding Fujou Building…”
The death toll at Fujou Building has reached eight people.
In a TV report, the host delivered the latest update on this event with his usual calm tone.
The eighth person was Misty Haze. Why did she commit suicide? Was it due to guilt wanting atonement or because she hadn’t fulfilled Araya Souren’s assigned life value?
Aozaki Touko held a cigarette between her fingers, her eyes seeming to pierce through everything: “None of those reasons are correct. The reason is only one—this time, it just didn’t fly.”
Beside her, Kokutou Mikiya groaned and stirred awake from her nap, her consciousness feeling a bit disoriented due to being out of her body for too long: “I’m sorry, Miss Touko, I seem to have fallen asleep by accident.”
“Don’t say things like that. Even though you just woke up, can’t you at least make me a coffee? Just as an excuse for your recovery training…” To shake off those tedious thoughts, Touko redirected her attention back to her assistant.
Kokutou Mikiya blanked for a moment before realizing what was going on and stood up to give her a cup of coffee.
The TV continued to play in the background.
“……Up to now, Fujou Building has had eight victims. Like the previous ones, they left no notes or other items behind…”
“Huh? Eight?” Kokutou Mikiya blinked in confusion. She remembered that last time, only three people had been reported as victims.
Ryougi Shiki took the coffee from Kokutou Mikiya and asked: “If a person forces themselves to fly, will they end up like this?”
Aozaki Touko said: “In the past, no one tried flying on their own human strength. Flying and falling are two words that go hand in hand. However, the more someone yearns for the sky, the more they ignore this reality, leading to a fate where even after death, they fly endlessly in the clouds—unlike actually falling into the sky.”
“That… I don’t understand what happened. Can you explain it?” Kokutou Mikiya asked.
Later, Touko briefly explained about the recent Rebirth incident, but with her usual Magus-like mysterious tone, Kokutou could tell she wasn’t getting the full picture.
Night.
Ryougi Shiki’s Apartment.
There was only one bed in the room, and aside from that, there were no other furnishings. Kokutou Mikiya sat on the floor, talking to Ryougi Shiki.
“I had a pretty strange dream.”
“A dream?” Ryougi Shiki lay on the bed, looking up at the ceiling.
“Yeah, about dragonflies. I don’t know if it was me watching them or actually becoming one, but they were flying around busily.” Kokutou Mikiya stood up and placed the mineral water she had bought into the only appliance in the room—the fridge. She opened the fridge while continuing: “Then a butterfly flew down. Even though it tried its hardest to flap its wings and keep up with the dragonflies, it eventually ran out of energy and fell to the ground.”

On August 31st, Kuzuki continued his training as usual.
The ground of the forest was unusually smooth due to repeated trampling.
Kuzuki practiced Poisonous Snake 99 Techniques and Five Forms Fist every day, one set each. Then he moved on to practicing Seven Wounds Fist.
Despite appearing somewhat immature, he still categorized his many fist techniques by progress.
Roughly mastering a technique wouldn’t be recognized by the Assassination Book. Only when the technique reached a level of mastery that could be included in the book would it be accepted.
Techniques at the level of Five Forms Fist, such as Hokuto Shinken (Fist of the North Star), Hadouken, and Gouken (Strong Fist), allow one to harness the basic power of fist techniques and begin to understand their meaning. The next higher level is Heaven’s Frost Fist (From Feng Yun) and Scorching Sun Fist, which are highly refined techniques that flow naturally. These techniques fully embody the essence of fist techniques and understand their significance. The highest level is called “Refined to Perfection” (Rufure Pure), such as Five Forms Fist, Military Killing Fist, and Seven Wounds Fist. These techniques are so intuitive that even the creator can’t replicate them. Beyond this lies the “Transcendent Enlightenment” (Exhilarating Transformation) level, which only Poisonous Snake 99 Techniques can achieve.
This level progresses from [Entering the Inner Sanctum] to [Mastery of Integration], then to [Refined to Perfection], and finally to [Transcendent Enlightenment].
Regarding levels, Kuzuki’s understanding is based on some knowledge from his past life. It’s like a child’s game, but the hierarchy of fist techniques’ power is undeniably real—just like stairs. As one’s grasp and understanding of fist techniques improve, their abilities naturally become more powerful.
Achieving higher levels enhances the power of fist techniques, sometimes even surpassing expectations, but this potential is limited by the inherent hierarchy of fist techniques.
Poisonous Snake 99 Techniques at the [Transcendent Enlightenment] level are no match for Military Killing Fist or Heaven’s Frost Fist (From Feng Yun) and Scorching Sun Fist.
Because of this, Kuzuki rarely practices Poisonous Snake 99 Techniques and Five Forms Fist these days. He only occasionally trains in them.
Instead, he invests more time into mastering advanced fist techniques.
When the Assassination Book was active, it was easy for him to exchange for more fist techniques, even if there were many of them. He could practice each one in a [Training] space. However, once the Assassination Book was closed, this advantage disappeared. Each fist technique requires energy, and higher-level techniques demand even more.
The relationship between levels isn’t linear; it grows exponentially.
For example, Hokuto Shinken (Fist of the North Star) wouldn’t be masterable in a decade or more!
Nine techniques, even if you choose to ignore two of them, the remaining seven require varying amounts of energy. With limited time, he can only focus on mastering one.
His main focus is on Hokuto Shinken (Fist of the North Star).
This technique isn’t particularly difficult to learn and has a decent ceiling. Its key feature is its variety of unique abilities and highly refined Assassination Techniques, making it a true Assassin’s Fist.
“Sigh… Inhale…”
Kuzuki’s chest rises and falls as he practices the North Star Tenshou Breathing and Walking Technique (Karate).
When his breath reaches its peak, Kuzuki instantly acts, concentrating all his power into a massive explosion. He then throws a punch toward the sky.
Northern Star Fist Wave!
This technique uses strong ki to enhance the physical body and then releases super-fast punches through the body’s strength. It also manipulates the air waves created by the attack into an air cannon for long-range physical attacks on enemies.
“Gasp!”
With his palm pushed out, the visible air waves surged up to the sky!
Uh…
The residual waves from the palm strike dissipated, and Kuzuki exhaled deeply as his face returned to its normal color.
His arm had suffered quite a few broken blood vessels; this technique was still not fully mastered. The wild power was still causing harm to himself.
··········
After finishing a day’s training, Kuzuki, as usual, tried to sense the Assassination Book. However,
He could feel a connection, but still couldn’t open it.
“However, he can feel the connection gradually strengthening. Does this mean that the Assassination Book is about to become usable?” Due to the sudden shutdown of the Assassination Book, Kuzuki’s several ideas for verification were unable to be implemented.
Now, he could only rely on his guesses to refine his assumptions and try to verify them one by one when the Assassination Book becomes usable.
One: Does the Assassination Book judge time based on objective facts or Kuzuki’s subjective sense of time?
Two: What happens if [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)]Mission fails?
Three: If he maintains a long period without contacting the Assassination Book, what will happen?
These questions, once the Assassination Book is opened, he will try to verify them.
