Chapter 8 Fourth Option
[The Dark Flower (Secret Mission)]
Target: Hirazaka Ryuji①
(St. Julianna Hospital doctor. In his youth, he piloted the Zeta Gundam and participated in the Gryps Conflict. After leaving the hospital, he joined an unknown extremist organization and took part in a terrorist attack on London.
Since beginning his medical career, he was recognized as an “Advanced Worker” by the local government for six consecutive years and was nominated for the “5th Top Ten Outstanding Young People” award in 1999.
Dr. Hirazaka Ryuji is diligent in his work and sincere in his interactions with others. He consistently leads by example, demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility, and embodies hard work and resilience. He is innovative, unafraid to take on responsibility, and actively cooperates with the hospital director.
Alongside four nurses in his department, he strives to implement the “Century-Spanning Human Engineering Project” and contributes to the hospital’s efforts in fostering spiritual and cultural development. He is dedicated to providing healthcare and psychological support to magi across Asia and even worldwide.)
Requirement: To kill him with the most brutal means.
Reward: 100 Assassination Points
Deadline: Three days
Kuzuki raised his eyebrows in surprise.
Not because of the target’s description, Hirazaka Ryuji is someone Kuzuki knows. He’s a people who shouldn’t be mourned, but this isn’t the point.
The key point is that Hirazaka Ryuji is another world person. In this universe, there are no extraordinary abilities beyond normal human capabilities in him or anyone else like Kuzuki.
“Speaking of it, the two universes aren’t mutually exclusive types. Could they be part of the same world? I’m from the ‘Interior World,’ and Hirazaka Ryuji is from the ‘Exterior World’… Hmm, not excluding that possibility.”
A 100Assassination Points task, Kuzuki still wants to take it. Moreover, for Hirazaka Ryuji, he has enough killing intent, which could kill him ten times.
“If this were the same world and I accepted the Dark Flower (Secret Mission), what would happen? Would my space be teleported directly to the target’s vicinity? Or would there be a notification telling me where the target is located, forcing me to find it myself…?” Kuzuki began to imagine various scenarios in his mind.
“If they were different worlds, the problem would be even greater. The Assassination Book might have abilities that allow teleportation between worlds. That could mean I’d lose my space instantly upon death. Crossing world lines would definitely draw attention from ‘The Group.’ Hmm… Different worlds mean different physical laws. In that world, would I still be able to perform at my best? Hirazaka Ryuji is a weakling with only five points of combat skill. Killing such a渣滓 with 100Assassination Points seems like an easy reward for the difficulty involved. That doesn’t make sense…”
The lack of information has left Kuzuki with many unanswered questions, which he can only address by accepting the Dark Flower (Secret Mission).
Should he accept or not?
If he wants to learn more about the Assassination Book, he has no choice but to try each option one by one. After thinking for three minutes, his finger landed on the options.
·········
A moment of weightlessness and disorientation.
The light changed from dark to bright.
The sun high in the sky casts intense heat over the land, like a grill baking the earth.
Hot air filled with scorching rays stirred up by rolling thunder carried an ear-piercing noise along the empty streets as Kuzuki walked alone.
Is time changing or have we moved to the southern hemisphere? The buildings are labeled in Japanese; it’s not just a spatial change···
A time jump indicates another world.
Kuzuki is moving methodically, his movements subtle but purposeful. He feels no change in his strength, prompting him to question if the target has weakened or if there are other vulnerabilities.
Let’s gather information about this world first.
Kuzuki walks down the street, observing the buildings around him.
After sixteen minutes of walking, he locates his target.
A cyber café.
The quickest and most comprehensive way to obtain information is through the internet.
Kuzuki enters the café casually, meandering through the space. Finally, he stops outside a private room.
After ensuring no one saw him enter or was recording his actions, he quietly turns the door handle with a sharp twist, causing a jarring noise as the metal twists 270 degrees before being pushed open.
The people inside react to the commotion, turning to see Kuzuki. Just as they are about to confront him, he vanishes into darkness···
Kuzuki drags a computer user out of the café and places them aside.
With no money or resources, relying on legitimate means to gather information is unavoidable but time-consuming.
However, it’s too tedious this way.
Kuzuki prioritizes efficiency over convenience in such situations.
The computer system is outdated, and the monitor is a large CRT. Checking the time reveals it’s 2006.
“It’s similar to the past, World History, Situation, Countries, Celebrities…” Kuzuki quickly scrolls through Wikipedia while mentally noting key points.
After scanning broadly, he marks his search parameters on the target list.
St. Yurion’s Hospital is a large facility with notable presence in medical circles, so Kuzuki easily locates its exact location.
The next step is to visit the hospital and eliminate Hirazaka Ryuji.
Finding the target unexpectedly easy leaves Kuzuki puzzled about what he might have missed.
He leaned back against his chair, closing his eyes as he thought deeply.
“100 points of Assassination Points, sufficient to exchange an upper-class fist technique, how can such a valuable thing be obtained so simply?” Kuzuki, holding onto the belief that “the more you work, the more you get,” holds a firm stance against this notion.
He quickly fell asleep and entered the Assassination Book’s domain.
“Hmm… something seems off.” Upon flipping to the fourth option, [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)], Kuzuki found it strange.
Hirazaka Ryuji is undoubtedly a perverted character, someone who would die a thousand times just to live. However, the description of [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)] seems odd from every angle.
If someone were unaware of Hirazaka Ryuji’s existence, they might mistakenly believe that [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)]’s description is accurate and fall into this contradictory trap—killing a villain or a hero, which presents different psychological challenges.
Traps?
Kuzuki paused, beginning to organize his thoughts.
“I initially assumed that the Assassination Book had access to my memories and used those to create fist techniques. That’s why I was so familiar with them. If the Assassination Book hadn’t referenced my memory at all… then [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)] makes sense.”
From the perspective of “you get what you pay for,” task difficulty and rewards should align.
Therefore, if a task is completed easily, it would yield a positive reward without knowledge of Kuzuki’s memory. [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)] wouldn’t be invalidated by this aspect.
Instead, the situation with [Dark Flower (Secret Mission)] would fail to deceive Kuzuki in terms of information. It’s akin to cheating.
Considering this task specifically:
If Kuzuki had no memory of the character, he might blindly believe the task description and even distrust it if he didn’t believe in it. However, believing or not, figuring out a human’s life story in just three days seems too challenging.
This task’s difficulty primarily lies in self-reflection.
For 100 points of Assassination Points, could one kill anyone? Even someone they consider a villain or hero?
Fortunately, Kuzuki was aware of the information beforehand.
